Abstract
It is proposed that both trainers and learners have individual styles, and sometimes institutions also have a preferred teaching style. The potential uses of identified learning styles in groups are described. Diagnostic instruments available in North America – Kolb, Myers Briggs, Guglielmino, Jacobs‐Fuhrman – are reviewed.

Perhaps the single most powerful competitive edge any company can have over the next decade is providing superlative service. As technology progresses at a rapid pace and the benefits of any organization or product bear remarkable similarity to a competitor′s, the one sustainable, competitive edge which remains is service. Service, however, requires skill and, in most organizations, a cultural transition. It is in this area where Training can become the driving force and make significant impact on profitability.

Abstract
The training experience for many “trainees” is a very novel and sometimes frightening experience. Many trainees arrive on courses with feelings of anxiety related to past frustrations and resentment over being sent on the course. The article lists requirements for effective training in this context, and describes appropriate trainer behaviour. Examples of questions and responses, and the uses of ice‐breaker exercises are also illustrated.

As technology progresses at a rapid pace and the benefits of any organization or product bear remarkable similarity to a competitor′s, the one sustainable, competitive edge which remains is – service. Abstract
Within the past 20 years hiking and backpacking have enjoyed rapid growth among Americans as favorite outdoor activities. From 1965 to 1977 the number of hikers almost tripled, from 9.9 million to 28.1 million, while national forest visitor days among hikers and mountaineers increased from 4 million in 1966 to 11 million in 1979. Accompanying this growth in interest has been a boom in books about the sport. These include both “how‐to‐do‐it” volumes and guides to specific geographical areas. Each year brings another spate of books, yet to this compiler's knowledge no bibliography of hiking guides to the Rocky Mountains, one of North America's premier outdoor regions, has yet been attempted. This bibliography is an effort to correct that situation.
