Abstract

Purpose

The purpose of this paper is to present the residual power series method for solving the space time fractional variable coefficients Ito system.

Design/methodology/approach

A weighted algorithm based on the residual power series method is used numerical solution of the space time fractional Ito system variable coefficients. The authors show that this technique yields the analytical solution of the desired problem in the form of a rapidly convergent series with easily computable components.

Findings

The authors illustrate that the proposed method produces satisfactory results with respect to the other semi analytical methods. The reliability of the method and the reduction in the size of computational domain give this method a wider applicability.

Originality/value

This research presents, for the first time, a new modification of the proposed technique for aforementioned problems and some interesting results are obtained.

Abstract

Purpose

The purpose of this paper is to introduce an auxiliary parameter into the well‐known variational iteration algorithm which proves very effective to control the convergence region of approximate solution.

Design/methodology/approach

In this paper, an auxiliary parameter is introduced into the well‐known variational iteration algorithm which proves very effective to control the convergence region of approximate solution.

Findings

The present technology provides a simple way to adjust and control the convergence region of approximate solution for any values. An optimal auxiliary parameter can be obtained by the error of norm two of the residual function.

Originality/value

It is confirmed that submitted manuscript is original and is not being considered in any other journal.

Purpose

The purpose of this paper is to obtain approximate analytical solution of the second order hyperbolic telegraph equation with initial conditions, by the homotopy analysis method (HAM).

Design/methodology/approach

The HAM solutions contain an auxiliary parameter which provides a convenient way of controlling the convergence region of the series solutions.

Findings

Approximate analytical solution of the second order hyperbolic telegraph equation with initial conditions is obtained by the HAM. The HAM solutions contain an auxiliary parameter which provides a convenient way of controlling the convergence region of the series solutions.

Originality/value

In this work, approximate analytical solution of the second order hyperbolic telegraph equation with initial conditions is obtained by the HAM. To show the efficiency of the present method, several examples are presented.

Abstract

Purpose

The purpose of this paper is to introduce a new version of the homotopy perturbation method (HPM) for solving the magnetohydrodynamic viscous flow due to a shrinking sheet.

Design/methodology/approach

Three terms from HPM solution are used.

Findings

The results show that this method is very effective and simple and can be applied to other nonlinear problems.

Research limitations/implications

Comparison between the HPM and homotopy analysis methods for the studied problem shows a remarkable agreement and reveals that the HPM needs less work.

Practical implications

It is suggested that this method should be called HPM with auxiliary parameters. This paper uses two auxiliary parameters, three or more auxiliary parameters could be used for accuracy consideration.

Originality/value

In this paper, a two‐parameter HPM is applied which is useful for finding an approximate analytical solution of MHD viscous flow due to a shrinking sheet.

Abstract

Purpose

The purpose of this paper is to present an analytical technique, based on the He’s energy balance method (an improved version recently presented by Khan et al.), to obtain the approximate solution of quadratic nonlinear oscillator (QNO).

Design/methodology/approach

This oscillator (QNO) is used as a mathematical model of the human eardrum oscillation.

Findings

It has been shown that the results by the present technique are very close to the numerical solution.

Originality/value

The results obtained in this paper are compared with those obtained by Hu (harmonic balance method) and Khan et al. The result shows that the method is more accurate and effective than harmonic balance as well as improved energy balance methods.

Abstract

Purpose

This paper aims to explore the double diffusive magneto-hydrodynamic (MHD) squeezed flow of (Cu–water) nanofluid between two analogous plates filled with Darcy porous material in existence of chemical reaction and external magnetic field.

Design/methodology/approach

The governing nonlinear equations are transformed into ordinary differential equations by means of similarity transforms, and the coupled mass and heat transference equations are resolved analytically with the application of differential transform method (DTM). The effects of different relevant parameters on velocity, temperature and concentration, including the squeeze number, magnetic parameter, Biot number, Darcy number and chemical reaction parameter, are illustrated with figures. In addition, for various parameters, the local skin friction coefficient, local Nusselt number and local Sherwood number are computed and are graphically displayed.

Findings

It is observed that the squeeze number has a direct relationship with Sherwood number and an inverse relationship with skin friction as Biot number increases. With enhanced Biot numbers, the temperature value increases during both squeeze and non-squeeze moments, but the temperature values are higher for squeeze moments compared to the other case.

Practical implications

This research has potential applications in various large-scale enterprises that might benefit from increased productivity.

Social implications

The results are useful to thermal science community.

Originality/value

Unique and valuable insights are provided by studying the impact of chemical reaction on double diffusive MHD squeezing copper–water nanofluid flow between parallel plates filled with porous medium. In addition, this research has potential applications in various large-scale enterprises that might benefit from increased productivity.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to assess the operational efficiency of Arab stock markets during the past decade in order to anticipate their ability to compete in the future. The study provides estimates of the operational efficiency of Arab capital markets by analyzing how well they use all the information available and other financial resources to generate earnings.

Abstract

Purpose

The purpose of this paper is to address the inefficiency in resource allocation for disaster relief procurement operations. It presents a holistic and reconfigurable procurement auctions‐based framework which includes the announcement construction, bid construction and bid evaluation phases.

Design/methodology/approach

The holistic framework is developed in a way that auctioneers and bidders compete amongst each other in multiple rounds of the procurement auction. Humanitarian organization in disaster locations are considered as auctioneers (buyers) and suppliers are considered as bidders.

Findings

Unique system parameters (e.g. announcement options, priority of items, bidder strategies, etc.) are introduced to represent the disaster relief environment in a practical way. The framework is verified by simulation and optimization techniques using the system characteristics of the disaster relief environment as an input. Based on the parameters and their values, behavioural changes of auctioneers and suppliers are observed.

Originality/value

Combining the three phases of procurement auctions is unique both in the auction literature and in the disaster relief research, and it helps the humanitarian organizations supply the immediate and long‐term requirements in the disaster location more efficiently.
