Abstract
Higher education (HE) systems in Europe have been identified as an essential element for promoting economic competitiveness since the Bologna Declaration in 1999. The aim of the Bologna Process was to expand access to educational opportunities, fostering participation in post-compulsory education by creating the European Higher Education Area (EHEA). Inequalities in training because of geographic, ethnic or social origin, and inequalities in job opportunities, salaries, and incomes are critical dimensions of social development in HE. The development of policies, including those concerning education, that extend access to opportunities is essential to prevent such exclusion becoming permanent. The Access4All project aims to promote the educational and social inclusion of underrepresented groups as well as of non-traditional learners.
In this chapter, the project’s main results are reviewed, with: (1) a brief overview of inclusion policies and practices in European HE; (2) an operational definition of “good practice” and criteria for selecting examples of good practice for inclusion in HE; (3) a self-assessment tool enabling the characterization of institutional capacity for innovation and of inclusion policies and practices; and (4) a model for promoting strategic planning, focusing on inclusion in HE.

Abstract
COVID-19 has generated unprecedented circumstances with a tremendous impact on the global community. The academic community has also been affected by the current pandemic, with strategy and management researchers now required to adapt elements of their research process from study design through to data collection and analysis. This chapter makes a contribution to the research methods literature by documenting the process of adapting research in light of rapidly changing circumstances, using vignettes of doctoral students from around the world. In sharing their experience of shifting from the initially proposed methodologies to their modified or completely new methodologies, they demonstrate the critical importance of adaptability in research. In doing so, this chapter draws on core literature of adaptation and conducting research in times of crises, aiming to provide key learnings, methodological tips and a “story of hope” for scholars who may be faced with similar challenges in the future.

Abstract
Library patrons' lack of awareness about the governmental documents held in public and academic libraries is an often repeated theme in the literature of documents librarianship. Various programs are implemented in academic libraries to inform students about governmental publications, including one of the more common methods of user‐education, namely, bibliographic instruction. Classes can range from those that introduce general library resources and mention documents, to those that are devoted exclusively to describing governmental documents. Few college students without specialized training are aware of governmental publications, and some academic librarians and elementary and secondary media specialists may share this ignorance. One illustration of this point is Smelser's study, done in 1978, which showed that only 10 percent of the librarians in Minnesota secondary school libraries and media centers had completed any formal course work in governmental documents. Another 60 percent had taken a course that devoted nine or fewer actual hours of class time to some aspects of governmental publications. Library schools commonly offer only one course on governmental documents; thus, many public and academic librarians feel inadequately prepared to provide assistance in this changing field of reference work.

Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to explore the potential of using digital shorts (Pytash et al., 2017) focusing on social issues in social studies classrooms.
Design/methodology/approach
Qualitative case study is used in this study.
Findings
Digital shorts focused on important social issues, and included their beliefs and perspectives about their social issue, as well as insights into their developing identities as citizens. The authors’ findings demonstrate how this assignment can be the gateway for discussions regarding social issues, how students perceive their identities tied to contemporary social issues, and how they make sense of these issues within multimodal compositions.
Research limitations/implications
The findings from this research have implications for researching the effectiveness of digital media production analysis for students’ learning of social issues.
Practical implications
The findings from this research have implications for exploring how digital media production analysis can be incorporated into social studies courses.
Originality/value
Although the push for social studies teachers to provide spaces for students to demonstrate these capacities, few examples exist in the literature.
