The local politics of sustainability of community and jobs in farming in relationship to school meals procurement is a sound lesson – pity more Westminster politicians can not seem to get their head around. One supplier of meat had 55 employees and took produce from over 1,000 local farmers and crofters which was supplied to the Highlands Council – and these are fresh products not frozen – got to be good for improved quality of the finished meal on the plate.

More to the point, one head teacher was quoted as saying: the changes in school meals together with the water programme, free fruit scheme and breakfast club had had a positive impact on both behaviour and concentration of her pupils.
