Abstract

The Food Drink & Tobacco Industry Training Board has recently produced an information pack on the various training schemes that exist for young people and which aim to help them make the difficult transition from school to employment. One of the difficulties is that many employers do not fully understand the schemes, which often seem too complex. This information pack simplifies the issue with a view to increasing interest, particularly among employers. Embodying a question and answer approach, it describes the major schemes concerned with vocational preparation and training for employment, explaining the differences between them and their value both to young people and employers. The pack also contains leaflets, articles, and other material produced by both the Board and the Manpower Services Commission about the various schemes whereby companies can help young people.
