Abstract

Based on a talk first given to the Manchester Industrial Relations Society, the process of change is charted – especially in recent times – in Britain′s ports. In particular, a detailed analysis is provided of the moves by the port employers to repeal the National Dock Labour Scheme, and their attempt to reorganise industrial relations in this industry. A fascinating insight is offered into the processes and consequences of change in a highly turbulent environment.
