Abstract
Purpose
The interaction between the culture and tourism industries is naturally concentrated in cities. However, the effect of their co-agglomeration on urban tourism development depends on their level of integration. This study aims to answer the following questions: Can culture–tourism co-agglomeration promote the development of the tourism economy? Is the effect of culture–tourism co-agglomeration on tourism development moderated by culture–tourism integration? Does culture–tourism co-agglomeration have spatial spillover effects?
Design/methodology/approach
Taking 262 prefecture-level cities in China from 2009 to 2019 as the research sample, this study measures the degree of culture–tourism co-agglomeration using a co-agglomeration index and measured culture–tourism integration using a coupling coordination degree model. Using a threshold model and a spatial econometric model, this study examined the effect of culture–tourism co-agglomeration on urban tourism development.
Findings
Culture–tourism co-agglomeration had a positive effect on the urban tourism economy, and the effect differed according to geographical location and city grade. Moreover, culture–tourism co-agglomeration’s effect on the urban tourism economy was affected by the level of culture–tourism integration. When the level of culture–tourism integration crossed the threshold, the positive effect of culture–tourism co-agglomeration on the urban tourism economy will be enhanced. Finally, culture–tourism co-agglomeration had positive spatial spillover effects on surrounding cities.
Originality/value
This study integrated culture–tourism co-agglomeration, culture–tourism integration and urban tourism economy into the same research framework and innovatively analyzed the effect of the scale and quality of culture–tourism interaction on the urban tourism economy.

Abstract
Purpose
In online exchange platforms' sponsored search advertising, the array of product quality signals within a keyword search results list plays a crucial role in shaping buyers' purchasing decisions. This research seeks to explore the impact of various quality signals – namely, ranking position, seller reputation and product price – on ad clicks. Additionally, it examines the role of keyword attributes, such as specificity and popularity, in modulating the effects of these quality signals on advertising clicks.
Design/methodology/approach
A total of 5,763 effective data points were collected from a leading B2B electronic platform company, and we employed negative binomial regression with Heckman correction methods to test the hypotheses.
Findings
The results indicate that in online exchange platforms, search ad clicks are significantly and positively affected by displayed signals such as ranking position, seller reputation and product price information. Notably, a U-shaped relationship emerges between product price and ad clicks. Furthermore, keyword specificity and popularity distinctly moderate the impact of these displayed signals on ad clicks within online exchange platforms.
Originality/value
This paper addresses the gap in existing research on search advertising by methodically analyzing the impact of various signals displayed in search results and how keyword attributes moderate ad clicks, all through a signaling theory lens.

Abstract
Purpose
Land is the basis for economic development as well as tourism development. There is a close relationship between tourism development and the land market. However, research on the effect of tourism development on land prices is insufficient. This paper aims to investigate the effect and mechanism of tourism development on land prices.
Design/methodology/approach
The econometric paradigm is the main research method. Fixed effect models, instrumental variable models and mediating effect models are introduced to examine the impact of tourism development on land prices. The data include three types: land transaction data, city-level data and scenic spot data. More than 360,000 samples of land transactions for 284 prefecture-level cities in China from 2007 to 2021 are applied.
Findings
Tourism development can significantly increase land prices. This conclusion holds after using instrumental variables to address endogeneity and testing for robustness. Meanwhile, tourism development’s effect on land price is influenced by land type, city type, city tier and city location. The land price increase effect of tourism is more significant for tourism land, tourist cities, central cities and Western cities. The paper also reveals the mechanisms of the public service enhancement effect, infrastructure upgrading effect and environmental optimization effect in tourism development’s effect on land price.
Originality/value
The study contributes to the literature on the relationship between tourism development and land market. The generality and specificity of tourism development’s effect on land price are revealed from the micro and macrolevel research level. The findings enrich the literature on tourism price effects, point to rational ways to optimize and regulate land prices and provide new ideas for land-market development.

Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to gain a systematic and comprehensive understanding of deploying temporary agency work (TAW) in China in relation to the adoption, staffing pattern, and human resource (HR) configuration.
Design/methodology/approach
Based on the literature and theory of strategic human resource management, this inquiry identifies and analyzes three major components in the utilization of temporary agency work (TAW) in Chinese organizations.
Findings
The paper derives a framework to conceptualize the relationships among strategic vs ad hoc adoption of TAW, separated and mixed staffing patterns, as well as four HR on the utilization of TAW in the Chinese context..
Research limitations/implications
This is an initial effort in exploring the phenomenon of TAW in China prior to the enactment of Labor Contract Law. The paper offers a conceptual base for further examining the evolution of TAWs in Chinese organizations.
Originality/value
The context‐based analysis of TAW's challenges existing frameworks in the Western literature. The resulting framework is an innovative effort for a comprehensive understanding of TAW in China, thus enriches the existing literature.

Abstract
Purpose
To identify characteristics of Japanese business culture that differ from China, particularly in the dimensions of ‘high context’ versus ‘low context’’ and collectivism versus individualism.
Design/methodology/approach
Application of the concepts in cross‐culture research suggested by Hall (1976), Hofstede (1980) and Trompenaar and Hampden‐Turner (1998) and on the base of comprehensive field visits and observation undertaken in China and Japan over the past several years.
Findings
The Japanese culture can be characterized as highly tacit and group‐centered, whereas Chinese culture is more explicit and individualistic.
Research limitations/implications
Arguably the absence of a large body of supporting data represents a limitation in the methodology of this article. Future survey based research and further conceptualization on different kinds of collectivisms and individualisms will supplement this article.
Practical implications
Very useful advice in aspects of communication, human relations management, recruitment, and management control systems for international business management developing business opportunities in Japan and China.
Originality/value
This article elucidates the differences in business culture between Japan and China and shows to the global business community that a differentiated view of international business management in Japan and China is necessary.

Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to study the temperature characteristics of hydro-viscous clutch with different structure of friction disks and obtain the distribution of film temperature.
Design/methodology/approach
The mathematical model of oil film between friction disks with radial grooves is established. Based on the flow rate equation, the temperature rise equation of oil film is deduced. Considering two-phase flow, the temperature distribution in the oil shear stage and the effects of the ratio of inner radius to outer radius on film temperature rise is studied by using computational fluid dynamics (CFD) technology.
Findings
The results show that when input speed is constant, the increase in the ratio of inner to outer radius leads to an increase in the peak temperature and the decrease in the ratio results in a larger increasing rate of temperature.
Originality/value
These results are of interest for the study of hydro-viscous drive and its applications. This study can also provide a theoretical basis for the mechanism of temperature rise by considering the effect of two-phase flow.

Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to design the whole structure of high-speed automatic casing system (HSACS) for lithium-ion battery (LIB), and verify its rationality and reliability by kinematic simulation and casing test.
Design/methodology/approach
Based on the software of SolidWorks and ADAMS, the structure of working mechanisms for HSACS was designed, and virtual prototype models of HSACS and main turntable were established to realize the kinematic analysis. The HSACS casing test was also carried out and compared with simulation.
Findings
Simulation results for the designed HSACS were presented graphically and analyzed. The graphical results indicate that the coordination motions among the working mechanisms of HSACS are reasonable and no interference occurs. Casing test results show that the casing quality and production efficiency of HSACS equipment are satisfying.
Originality/value
In the present work, the developed virtual prototype models of HSACS provide reliable kinematic analysis results for the structural design of HSACS, and reasonable motion relations are realized in the designed structure of HSACS. Furthermore, not only the casing quality requirements can be met, but also the production efficiency of high-speed automatic casing machine for LIB is greatly improved via this kind of new HSACS structure.
