Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to clarify how the micro-structure and -properties of wool fibers influence the pilling property of woolen fabrics.
Design/methodology/approach
The fuzzing and pilling property of woolen fabrics was investigated, based on micro-scale including basic structural characteristics of wool fibers, wool scale topography and surface friction, etc. Scanning electron microscope was used to analyze wool fiber structure; frictional coefficients were measured by capstan method. Then three different kinds of wool fibers are spun into yarns, then knitted into woolen fabrics, whose pilling grade were estimated by means of Pillbox method.
Findings
Results show that the finer the fiber, the fabric pilling degree will be higher; the shorter the fiber, the fabric’s pilling is more serious; the number of pilling is decreasing with the increasing number of crimp; the longer the scales, the better anti-pilling property of fabrics, while the larger the scale thickness, the worse the anti-pilling property; and initially, with the increasing DFEs, fabrics are not easy to pilling, however, there exists a critical value.
Originality/value
Fuzzing and pilling property of woolen fabrics are affected by number of factors, including raw fibers, yarns, fabric tissue and finishing process, etc. In this paper, the authors exclude the influence of yarns’ parameter and fabrics’ tissue, etc., but focus on the micro-structure and -properties of raw wool fibers; and establish a direct connection between fabrics’ pilling property and fibers’ parameters.

Purpose
This paper aims to identify how house price affects household consumption.
Design/methodology/approach
The authors use a micro-level data set that tracks the house price and consumption of a vast number of households over a period of four years. OLS regression is the main econometric method.
Findings
The authors document robust evidence that an increase in house prices stimulates household consumption, regardless of whether a household owns or rents. Moreover, the authors find that both acquiring and losing homeownership negatively affects household consumption. Further investigation suggests significant regional heterogeneity in the relationship between house prices and household consumption.
Originality/value
This is one of the first studies examining the relationship between house price and household consumption in China using micro-level data. Given the uniqueness of the Chinese housing market and China’s fast-growing consumption rate, the study contributes new evidence to the long-lasting debate.

Abstract
Purpose
This paper aims to improve the tribological performance of grease-lubricated spherical plain bearings (SPBs) under heavy load, dimple-type textures were prepared by laser on the outer surface of the inner ring. The influence of roughness parameters of a textured surface on reducing friction coefficient and temperature rise was also explored.
Design/methodology/approach
This study adopts a laser processing method to fabricate dimple-type textures. Three-dimensional roughness parameters were used to characterize the textured surfaces. The friction coefficients of five SPBs with surface texture and one original commercially available SPB without surface texture under different nominal loads were measured on a self-established test rig. The data of temperature rise were obtained by nine embedded thermal couples.
Findings
The results indicate that SPBs with textures generally exhibit lower friction coefficients than the original SPB without textures. The dimple depth has a significant influence on improving the tribological performance, which coincides with the analysis by surface roughness parameters. A textured surface with negative Ssk and high Vvc has the minimum temperature rise.
Originality/value
As it is too difficult to arrange sensors into heavy-load SPBs, there are few reports about the temperature characteristics. Through nine embedded thermal couples, the distribution of temperature rise on the inner ring of SPBs was given in this study. The positive effect of surface texture on reducing temperature rise and friction coefficient was verified, which is beneficial for the design of heavy-load SPBs.

Purpose
Social media analytics uses data mining platforms, tools and analytics techniques to collect, monitor and analyze massive amounts of social media data to extract useful patterns, gain insight into market requirements and enhance business intelligence. The purpose of this paper is to propose a framework for social media competitive intelligence to enhance business value and market intelligence.
Design/methodology/approach
The authors conducted a case study to collect and analyze a data set with nearly half million tweets related to two largest retail chains in the world: Walmart and Costco in the past three months during December 1, 2014-February 28, 2015.
Findings
The results of the case study revealed the value of analyzing social media mentions and conducting sentiment analysis and comparison on individual product level. In addition to analyzing the social media data-at-rest, the proposed framework and the case study results also indicate that there is a strong need for creating a social media data application that can conduct real-time social media competitive intelligence for social media data-in-motion.
Originality/value
So far there is little research to guide businesses for social media competitive intelligence. This paper proposes a novel framework for social media competitive intelligence to illustrate how organizations can leverage social media analytics to enhance business value through a case study.

Purpose
This study aims to understand the multiaxial fretting fatigue, wear and fracture characteristics of 35CrMoA steel under the elliptical loading path.
Design/methodology/approach
By keeping the contact pressure and torsional shear cyclic stress amplitude unchanged; the axial cyclic stress amplitude varied from 650 MPa to 850 MPa. The fretting fatigue test was carried out on MTS809 testing machine, and the axial cyclic strain response and fatigue life of the material were analyzed. The fretting zone and fracture surface morphology were observed by scanning electron microscope. The composition of wear debris was detected by energy dispersive X-ray spectrometer.
Findings
In this study, with the increase of axial stress amplitude, 35CrMoA steel will be continuously softened, and the cyclic softening degree increases. The fretting fatigue life decreases unevenly. The fretting scars in the stick region are elongated in the axial direction. The area of fracture crack propagation zone decreases. In addition, the results indicate that wear debris in the slip region is spherical and has higher oxygen content.
Originality/value
There were few literatures about the multiaxial fretting fatigue behavior of 35CrMoA steel, and most scholars focused on the contact pressure. This paper reveals the effect of axial cyclic stress on fretting fatigue and wear of 35CrMoA steel under the elliptical loading path.

Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of the paper is to explore Chinese women entrepreneurs’ perceptions of governance within the Shanghai fashion entrepreneurial ecosystem (SFEE) and identify whether policy is effective and inclusive of women entrepreneurs, potential barriers and if implementation is proceeding as planned.
Design/methodology/approach
We used an adaptive qualitative method incorporating a traditional case study utilizing a thematic analysis with a feminist approach to policy analysis. The case study is based on original data from ethnographic practices with a purposive sample of 15 fashion entrepreneurs and triangulated with six political elites within the SFEE.
Findings
The findings indicate that women fashion entrepreneurs perceive effective governance of the SFEE, legitimizing top-down policies and resources as the “right time” for them to be women and entrepreneurs in Shanghai. Entrepreneurs claim “I am human,” asserting gender equality in business but with circumstantial gender roles that can limit access to important resources.
Research limitations/implications
A single industry, the SFEE, limits the generalizability of the findings. Additionally, did the respondents feel comfortable with the truth? True to communist nations, citizens have few opportunities to voice opinions and public dissent is discouraged. However, we took steps to protect anonymity and excluded potentially sensitive questions dealing with geopolitical strife.
Practical implications
The study outlined six SFEE governance challenges and feminist policy responses that will strengthen the future of women’s entrepreneurship. The study can introduce classroom discussions on gender dynamics and entrepreneurship in the global context. This can help students understand the unique challenges women face, such as access to funding, networking opportunities and societal expectations, and how these factors influence the global supply chain.
Originality/value
The case study has several contributions, including a novel entrepreneurial ecosystem (EE) governance framework and the first study to endorse the voice of Chinese women entrepreneurs operating within the Shanghai fashion industry. Further, we contextualize entrepreneurship using anthropological methods. Lastly, the analysis and understanding of SFEE policies have the potential to improve women’s lives, their families and communities.

How to support the rapid internationalization of multinational enterprises (MNEs) is a hot topic in academia and industry. The main purpose of this work is to study the role of relational assets (R-assets) in promoting the speed of internationalization of MNEs, and to explore the moderating effect of environmental uncertainty (institutional environment and industry environment) on the relationship between R-assets and internationalization speed of MNEs.
Design/methodology/approach
This study uses the outward foreign investment data of China’s A-share listed enterprises from 2009 to 2021, and employs the Cox proportional hazards model to empirically test the research hypothesis.
Findings
The empirical results revealed that R-assets can promote enterprise internationalization speed. In addition, the study also finds that the institutional uncertainty of host countries weakens the promotion effect of R-assets on internationalization speed of MNEs, while the industry uncertainty strengthens the promotion effect of those. Heterogeneity analysis illustrates that, compared with state-owned enterprises, non-state-owned enterprises have a more significant effect on the above conclusions.
Originality/value
This study enriches the literature on internationalization speed of MNEs by focusing on the determinants of internationalization speed through R-assets. From the perspective of knowledge, the work also provides a theoretical reference whereby MNEs can use host country R-assets to accelerate knowledge acquisition and then internationalization practice. In conclusion, this study provides valuable insights for managers aiming to develop effective strategies through R-assets to achieve rapid internationalization, contributing to an emerging literature stream on catch-up for emerging-market MNEs.

Purpose
This paper aims to investigate the relationships between the strategic type of cross‐border mergers and acquisitions (M&As) and enterprise growth, and the moderating role of Chinese companies' organizational factors, including organizational structure, organizational experience, cultural distance and relative size.
Design/methodology/approach
The authors, as researchers, have mixed the strategic choice and post‐M&As integration into a comprehensive framework while building the theoretical model of “Strategic Type of Cross‐border M&As‐Organizational Factors‐Enterprise Growth” (ST‐OF‐EG). In this paper, they have empirically examined the model using hierarchical regression by analyzing 76 cross‐borders M&A events of overseas‐listed Chinese companies over the 2000‐2007 period.
Findings
The analysis shows that: related cross‐border M&As are better for enterprise growth than unrelated diversification cross‐border M&As; and among the organizational factors, studied organizational structure and organizational experience show a positive significance in terms of the relationship between the strategic type of cross‐border M&As and enterprise growth. The moderating role of cultural distance and relative size is non‐significant.
Research limitations/implications
In this paper, the moderating effect of cultural distance was found to be insignificant. However, further research is encouraged.
Practical implications
Chinese companies should pay attention to strategic choices before cross‐border M&As. They should expand abroad to markets step by step. They should merge the companies that have the higher relevance on a product, industry or market first. On the basis of specialization, Chinese companies should make themselves stronger and then develop from specialization to proper diversification, which is a robust path to achieve enterprise growth. Besides, Chinese companies should accumulate international experience as soon as possible and organizational structure should match the strategic choice.
Originality/value
This paper would be immensely helpful to Chinese companies to plan their cross‐border M&As strategy in a way that would enhance growth and core‐competence.

Purpose
Social media platforms established social relationship between the consumer and the brand community. The purpose of this paper is to propose a model to understand how dual-identification impact on the community citizenship behavior (CCB). Specifically, the authors propose perceived community-brand similarity (PCBS) influence CCB via dual-identification and brand passion (BP).
Design/methodology/approach
The research sample consists of 323 members who have used Apple product and used Apple fan page for more than one year, and structural equation modeling was used to test the research hypotheses.
Findings
The results indicated that PCBS directly influenced brand identification (BI) and community identification (CI), respectively. BI directly influenced CI. CI directly influenced BP, but BI not directly influenced BP. In the mediation effects, both the dual-identification factors and BP play important mediating roles.
Practical implications
From a managerial standpoint, this research provides implications for social network sites management.
Originality/value
This research fills a void in the BI and CI are coexisting but distinct aspects of virtual communities. In addition, the mediating role of dual-identification factors and BP in the online community consumer-brand relationship has not been fully investigated.
