Abstract

Purpose

This paper aims to elaborate the characteristics of magneto-Maxwell nanoliquid toward moving radiated surface. Flow analysis subject to Darcy–Forchheimer concept is studied. Newtonian heat/mass conditions and heat source aspects are taken into account for modeling. Apposite transformations are introduced for non-dimensionalization process.

Design/methodology/approach

Optimal homotopy analysis method is implemented to compute convergent solutions of nonlinear ordinary differential equations.

Findings

Temperature field increments when thermophoresis, heat generation and Brownian movement parameters are increased, whereas reverse situation is noticed for larger Prandtl number. The results also witness that concentration distribution has opposite characteristics for larger thermophoresis and Brownian movement parameters. Furthermore, the presented analysis reduces to traditional Darcy relation in the absence of local inertia coefficient.

Originality/value

As per the authors’ knowledge, no such analysis has been yet reported.

Abstract

Purpose

The purpose of this paper is to investigate the heat transportation rate by using Cattaneo–Christov heat flux model. Furthermore, homogeneous-heterogeneous reaction is also deliberated in the modeling of concentration expression.

Design/methodology/approach

The nonlinear PDEs are reduced to ODEs via implementation of applicable transformations. Numerical scheme bvp4c is used to obtain convergent solutions.

Findings

The main findings are to characterize the generalized Fourier’s heat flux and homogeneous-heterogeneous reactions in 3D flow of non-Newtonian cross fluid.

Purpose

The purpose of this study is to elaborate mixed convection impact in stratified nanofluid flow by convectively heated moving surface. Rheological relations of second-grade fluid are used for formulation. Magnetic field, heat absorption/generation and convective conditions are considered for modeling.

Design/methodology/approach

Convergent solutions are achieved using homotopy procedure.

Findings

The authors found opposing behavior for radiation and thermal stratification variables against thermal field.

Abstract

Purpose

This study aims to ascertain the relevance of Carroll’s four dimensions of corporate social responsibility (CSR), namely, economic, legal, ethical and discretionary in a dynamic regulatory context of a developing economy – Pakistan.

Design/methodology/approach

This study has operationalized these dimensions as four categories of CSR disclosure index. This disclosure index measured the relevance of CSR dimensions by examining CSR disclosure practices of Pakistan Stock Exchange-100 index firms.

Findings

The authors have found that the firms of Pakistan disclose more information pertaining to discretionary dimension of CSR than economic, legal and ethical dimensions. Interestingly, the authors have observed that after the enactment of state regulation, there is an increasing trend of the overall CSR disclosure level at a decreasing rate.

Practical implications

For policymakers, these findings imply that firms tend to perceive law as a box-ticking exercise and refrain to involve in those CSR activities that can have both strategic and societal benefits over the long run. These finding imply for business managers that if they will not undertake CSR notion seriously then the policymakers will take statutory initiatives to curtail the greenwashing effect and these initiatives can lead to higher transaction costs.

Originality/value

This study presents evidence about the relevance of Carroll’s four dimensions of CSR in a developing economy. The evidence shows that the CSR disclosure in developing economy continues to take a largely philanthropic form thereby dominating other CSR dimensions namely ethical, legal and economic. These findings also confirm that CSR practices are context-dependent and these cannot be isolated from their unique social context.

Abstract

Purpose

The purpose of this paper is to examine perceived supervisory support (PSS) and the impact of the antecedents of sharing knowledge, namely, clan culture (CC) as well as trust in innovative work behavior (IWB).

Design/methodology/approach

This research focuses on small and medium-sized enterprise (SME) employees, especially SMEs located around tourist attractions in Indonesia. Data collection was carried out by distributing questionnaires. The distribution of the questionnaire was carried out in two ways, namely, the offline and online systems via the Google form. Data analysis tool using structural equation modeling.

Findings

The findings reveal that PSS, knowledge sharing (KS), CC as well as trust are positively related to IWB. In addition, it was also found that KS was proven to mediate CC relationships as well as the trust which had a positive relationship with IWB.

Research limitations/implications

The research design uses cross-sectional data. This means that the measurement of variables is based on self-reports and is carried out at one time, which can lead to method bias that can affect the results of the study. Thus, further research is recommended to collect data longitudinally, which will make the findings stronger.

Practical implications

Theoretically, this study extends previous research by outlining a set of organizational elements that tend to influence KS behavior and their impact on IWB in the SMEs context.

Social implications

Managers and owners of SMEs need to create a CC because the creation of a family or CC will more easily foster a culture of sharing knowledge within the organization, which will ultimately increase IWB.

Originality/value

This study emphasizes that it is not only internal factors within employees that can foster IWB but there are external factors that play an important role in increasing IWB, such as CC, PSS, trust and KS. And to the best of the authors’ knowledge, this is the first study to include all the constructs in one model and the context of SMEs.

Abstract

Purpose

This paper aims to identify the unidimensionality and reliability of 84 factors that influence the performance of construction projects and develop a confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) model.

Design/methodology/approach

The study adopted a deductive research approach and started by identifying the positive factors that influence construction project performance. This was followed by the modification of the identified factors. After that, a questionnaire was developed out of the factors for data collection. Exploratory factor analysis was used to establish the factor structure of the positive factors, and this was verified using CFA afterwards. A model fit analysis was performed to determine the goodness of fit of the hypothesised model, followed by the development of the confirmatory model.

Findings

The study demonstrated substantial correlation in the data, sufficient unidimensionality and internal reliability. In addition, the estimated fit indices suggested that the postulated model adequately described the sample data.

Practical implications

The paper revealed that performance can be enhanced if stakeholders identify and leverage the positive factors influencing performance. The paper suggests that project stakeholders, particularly government, project owners, consultants and construction firms, can improve project performance by critically examining economic and financial systems (EFS), regulation and policy-making systems (RPS), effective management practices (EMP) and project implementation strategies (PIS).

Originality/value

The contribution of this paper to the present literature is identifying the positive factors and developing the confirmatory factor model. The model comprised 42 positive variables under four indicators: EMP, RPS, PIS and EFS.

Abstract

Purpose

This research aimed to investigate absorptive capacity's (AC) mediating effect among four important organizational factors, namely transformational leadership (TL), innovative culture (IC), organizational structure (OS), organizational climate (OC)) and competitive advantage (CA).

Design/methodology/approach

A survey method was used for data collection and 107 valid responses were received from managers and top executives of different hotels operating in Pakistan. Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) and Partial Least Squares-Structural Equation Modelling (PLS-SEM) statistical techniques were used to analyze the data and test the hypotheses.

Findings

The findings infer that OC positively affects CA by improving AC in an organization. Furthermore, AC was found as a partial mediator for the relationship among TL and CA as well as for the relationship among IC and CA.

Originality/value

Despite the abundance of research on AC, the empirical studies regarding Ac's mediating effect among various organizational factors and CA are limited. Therefore, this paper makes a noteworthy contribution to the body of knowledge by testing the mediating effect of AC among various organizational factors and CA with reference to hospitality sector in Pakistan.
