Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to evaluate Balanced Scorecard by listing claims made by its authors and counterclaims made by other scholars/authors; to justify further research for answering the question “how to measure” in a broad manner; and to justify further research in “dynamic performance measurement systems for global organisations”.
Design/methodology/approach
By referencing relevant literature, this paper first evaluates Balanced Scorecard. In its second part, the problems associated with designing and implementing performance measures are listed and lack of research in dynamic performance measurement systems for global organisations is brought to attention. The third part emphasises the need for further research to address the issues mentioned in part two.
Findings
The literature reveals that Balanced Scorecard still prevails as the dominant performance measurement system. Successful implementations, however, are much less prevalent and translating Balanced Scorecard to concrete action is still a problematic area.
Research limitations/implications
A vast, multidisciplinary volume of literature is available on performance measurement. This review has referenced mostly recent (2000‐2005) literature.
Practical implications
This review provides a reference for academics/practitioners by listing and organising major claims made by authors of Balanced Scorecard and counterclaims made by other authors/scholars. This review also brings to notice the difficulties associated with designing and implementing measures, identifying opportunities for ongoing research.
Originality/value
This paper forms the basis for a new research direction that considers global organisations and explores the design of a dynamic performance measurement system that operates within an integrated framework of business processes.

Abstract
Purpose
This paper aims to formulate the most probable future scenario for the accommodation sharing sector within the next five to ten years. It addresses the following six thematic aspects: relevance, different forms of accommodation sharing, users, hosts, platforms, and finally, industry regulation.
Design/methodology/approach
This study identifies the most likely holistic future scenario by conducting a two-stage Delphi study involving 59 expert panelists. It addresses 33 projections for six thematic sections of the accommodation sharing industry: relevance, different forms of accommodation sharing, users, hosts, platforms, and finally, industry regulation.
Findings
The results indicate that the number of shared accommodations and users of home-sharing will increase. Moreover, the cost advantage is the predominant driver for users to engage in the accommodation sharing segment, and for the hosts, the generation of an extra income is the primary incentive. Finally, the regulation within this industry is expected to be more effective in the foreseeable future.
Practical implications
The results are critical, not only to advance our theoretical understanding and stimulate critical discussions on the long-term development of accommodation sharing but also to assist governments and policymakers who have an interest in developing and regulating this sector and developers seeking business opportunities.
Originality/value
While there is ample knowledge about the past and current development of accommodation sharing in tourism, little is understood about its potential future development and implications for consumers, the economy, and society. To date, no scientific research is available that develops scenarios about the future of accommodation sharing.

Purpose
The application of mobile augmented reality (MAR) for enhancing user experiences and consumer patronizing intention has been the focus of recent MAR literature. Few studies examine the differences between apps. This study fills the research gap by examining how consumers assess their experiences with different MAR applications and how their decision-making process is performed, particularly in the setting of smartphones.
Design/methodology/approach
A web-based online survey was administered to collect data on consumers' perceptions of two different MAR apps: utilitarian and hedonic apps. Reliability and validity of the measurement scales, non-response bias and comment method bias were assessed. With the support of measurement model, partial least square (PLS) was employed to test the research hypotheses.
Findings
This study reveals that the technological attributes of augmented reality (AR) apps have significant effects on consumer perceptions of their utilitarian and hedonic benefits, including interactivity, visual quality, service quality, technicality and aesthetics. Moreover, this study shows that consumers of hedonic apps place more importance on their enjoyment with the MAR app; consumers of utilitarian apps focus more on the accrued functional values. The findings provide practical insights for retailers in AR marketing and application development in the MAR environment.
Originality/value
This study provides a comprehensive viewpoint for analyzing ongoing use and purchase intentions simultaneously in a unified theoretical framework. In addition, it compares different types of MAR apps: hedonic and utilitarian. Furthermore, it is one of the first few studies attempting to provide a comprehensive understanding of the predictive role of MAR technologies by incorporating privacy concerns into the research model based on user and gratification framework.

Purpose
This editorial introduces a special issue of the Journal of Services Marketing, dedicated to papers discussing the effect of the physical context on customer experience. This study aims to identify diverse areas of extant knowledge, upon which researchers might draw when investigating the effect of the physical context on customer experience, to inform future research agendas.
Design/methodology/approach
Drawing on available literature, the authors argue that, as prior studies in diverse scholarly fields have explored the physical context, these bodies of knowledge may offer theories and constructs that meaningfully inform explorations of the effect of the physical context on customer experience.
Findings
The authors identify five marketing subdisciplines and six nonmarketing disciplines, each offering theories, constructs and perspectives which researchers might draw upon in future studies of the effects of the physical context on customer experience.
Originality/value
The authors develop a novel map which depicts the field of study of the effects of the physical context on customer experience, which scholars might use to inform future research design. In addition, the authors suggest several directions for future research.

Purpose
Research in tourism and hospitality industry marketing has identified many highly effective applications of social media. However, studies in the existing literature do not enable a comprehensive understanding of this phenomenon because they lack a theoretical foundation. Therefore, this study systematically reviewed the literature from the perspective of the task-technology fit (TTF) theory. The purpose of this paper is to map out what is known about social media use in tourism and hospitality marketing and what areas need further exploration.
Design/methodology/approach
A descriptive cumulative review of the literature obtained 99 articles published in tourism and hospitality journals from 2010 to 2019.
Findings
The analysis suggests that to understand social media use in tourism marketing, researchers and practitioners in the industry must clarify the following four issues: the control variables, longitudinal analyzes and TTF concepts that should be used in future studies; the fitness of social media platforms for tourism marketing; how various social media platforms differ in terms of performance outcome; and the digital divide in the use of social media for tourism.
Originality/value
An integrated framework was developed to identify constructs and to understand their relationships. Recent studies in this domain are discussed; theoretical and practical suggestions and implications for future research are given.

Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this paper, an original research paper, is to study the optimization of material removal rate (MRR) in ultrasonic machining of polycarbonate bulletproof glass and acrylic heat-resistant glass. The machining of these materials is a very tough job. There are so many constraints which need to be taken into account while machining, but without proper knowledge of material properties and machining parameters, machining is not possible. This paper gives basic knowledge about polycarbonate bulletproof and acrylic heat-resistant glass and provides ways as to how these types of materials are processed or machined.
Design/methodology/approach
The Taguchi method was utilized to optimize the ultrasonic machining parameters for drilling these advanced materials. The relationship between MRR and other controllable process parameters such as concentration of slurry, type of abrasive, abrasive grit size, power rating, concentration of HF acid and type of tool material has been analyzed by using the Taguchi approach.
Findings
Through the Taguchi analysis, it is concluded that types of abrasive and HF acid concentrations have a significant role to play in MRR for both materials; in which, type of abrasive have 72.91 and 72.96 percent contribution in MRR for polycarbonate bulletproof and acrylic heat-resistant glass, respectively. Similarly, HF acid concentration has 14.70 and 14.65 percent contribution in MRR for polycarbonate bulletproof and acrylic heat-resistant glass, respectively. The MRR was improved by 34.44 percent in polycarbonate bulletproof glass and 29.25 percent in acrylic heat-resistant glass.
Originality/value
After experimental investigation, the results of the Taguchi modal are validated.

Purpose
This review paper reveals the literature on ultrasonic, chemical-assisted ultrasonic and rotary ultrasonic machining (USM) of glass material. The purpose of this review paper is to understand and describe the working principle, mechanism of material removal, experimental investigation, applications and influence of input parameters on machining characteristics. The literature reveals that the ultrasonic machines have been generally preferred for the glass and brittle work materials. Some other non-traditional machining processes may thermally damage the work surface. Through these USM, neither thermal effects nor residual stresses have been generated on the machined surface.
Design/methodology/approach
Various input parameters have the significant role in machine performance characteristics. For the optimization of output response, several input parameters have been critically investigated by the various researcher.
Findings
Some advance types of glasses such as polycarbonate bulletproof glass, acrylic heat-resistant glass and glass-clad polycarbonate bulletproof glass still need some further investigation because these materials have vast applications in automobile, aerospace and space industries.
Originality/value
