Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to examine whether patient readmission rates are associated with patient satisfaction and Medicare reimbursement rates in the US hospitals.
Design/methodology/approach
The Hospital Compare database was obtained from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) in the US. A total of 2,711 acute care hospitals were analyzed for this present study. The data included patient satisfaction surveys, hospital 30-days readmission ratios for heart failure and pneumonia patients and related payments. Exploratory factor analysis was applied in the first stage to operationalize constructs for scale development. Partial least squares (PLS) modeling analysis via Smart-PLS was utilized for testing the hypotheses.
Findings
Results indicated that data provided from the Hospital Compare database for the acute care hospitals accurately reflect quality outcomes. Nevertheless, the Medicare Hospital Readmissions Reduction Program (HRRP) did not penalize the hospitals when patients reported lower satisfaction via the Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (HCAHPS) scores.
Originality/value
The findings suggest that a high-readmission rate is not associated with lower payment. Such results appear to conflict with the goals of value-based purchasing programs, which seek to penalize hospitals financially for higher readmission rates.

Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to examine the influence of leader behaviors on follower attitudes and intentions toward providing voluntary upward feedback to their leader.
Design/methodology/approach
This experimental study exposed subjects to one of three different descriptions depicting a relationship‐oriented leader, a task‐oriented leader, or a leader who displays a high level of task and relationship behaviors. Surveys assessing both follower attitudes and intentions toward voluntary upward feedback were administered based on pre‐existing scales that were modified for the study.
Findings
As hypothesized, a leader displaying a high level of relationship orientation did foster significantly higher attitude scores. In contrast, perceptions of a leader displaying high task orientation in conjunction with a high relationship orientation were not found to significantly differ from a high relationship‐oriented leader. Finally, the results of the study indicate that positive attitudes toward providing voluntary upward feedback are likely to result in positive intentions to actually provide this feedback.
Originality/value
The paper's findings indicate that leaders who emphasize relationships with followers may increase followers' propensity to provide voluntary upward feedback. Leaders may utilize these findings to alter behaviors in order to promote greater amounts of voluntary feedback from followers. Potentially beneficial behaviors are addressed in the paper.

Man has been seeking an ideal existence for a very long time. In this existence, justice, love, and peace are no longer words, but actual experiences. How ever, with the American preemptive invasion and occupation of Afghanistan and Iraq and the subsequent prisoner abuse, such an existence seems to be farther and farther away from reality. The purpose of this work is to stop this dangerous trend by promoting justice, love, and peace through a change of the paradigm that is inconsistent with justice, love, and peace. The strong paradigm that created the strong nation like the U.S. and the strong man like George W. Bush have been the culprit, rather than the contributor, of the above three universal ideals. Thus, rather than justice, love, and peace, the strong paradigm resulted in in justice, hatred, and violence. In order to remove these three and related evils, what the world needs in the beginning of the third millenium is the weak paradigm. Through the acceptance of the latter paradigm, the golden mean or middle paradigm can be formulated, which is a synergy of the weak and the strong paradigm. In order to understand properly the meaning of these paradigms, however, some digression appears necessary.

Tilt rotor aircraft will add new dimensions to corporate and charter air transportation beginning in the 1980s or 1990s. The tilt rotor combines the VTOL capability of the helicopter with the speed, range, and fuel economy of the turboprop aircraft. The civil use of he helicopter has expanded enormously in the last 25 years because of its effectiveness in point‐to‐point transportation and its capability to operate from confined or limited areas. The tilt rotor dramatically increases that effectiveness because it hovers like a helicopter but cruises at twice the speed for twice the range on the same amount of fuel.

Abstract
This study investigates labour market fluctuations and gender issues in the health and care sector. A large data set from public registers has allowed us to compile a comprehensive picture of the job categories that particularly attract men. We find a polarisation of men in the upper and lower positions in the job hierarchy. In the metropolitan area, men tend to be discouraged from taking jobs in the health and care sector, as opposed to the peripheral region, where alternative job offers may be more scarce. A logistic regression analysis shows that (young) age is the major explanatory factor for leaving the health and care sector to find occupation elsewhere. However, gender (male), wage levels (low), marital status (single) and education (none) are also significant. The study discusses seven theoretical perspectives for male and female careers in the health and care sector: The need for flexibility. Destandardising of jobs. Devaluation of feminised work areas. Human capital as a stabiliser. Feminisation. The prospects of boundaryless careers. The spatial dimension.

Properly conceived, conducted and interpreted, motivation research can be an extremely powerful management tool, designed to help the manufacturer or advertiser to sell more goods. Its aim is to expose the market situation, explain it and suggest courses of action which will lead to desired changes. It is a way of looking at a problem rather than a collection of specialist techniques and is strictly practical. Hence it can be used alongside other market research tools for the solution of marketing problems and can be applied to a wide range of business activities. Much of its development has been in the advertising field but it can also help in the formulation of production policy, solving packaging problems and marketing operations. It is examined here in all these contexts. The idea of motivation research, the reasons for its use and the techniques by which to apply it are discussed, as well as the pitfalls that are likely to occur. New and imaginary case studies are used throughout to illustrate points. A review of the subject literature is included.
