Abstract
Purpose
Rising operational costs and software sustainment concerns have driven the Air Force to move to newer technology to ensure that the Air Force Standard Base Supply System (SBSS) can continue to provide affordable and sustainable mission support in the years to come. This paper aims to summarize the successful software modernization effort the Air Force undertook to achieve that objective.
Design/methodology/approach
The paper describes the preliminary system updates that were required to isolate the SBSS software from all internal and external system and user interfaces in preparation for the subsequent successful code roll effort. Once the legacy SBSS component was fully isolated, the SBSS software modernization objective was achieved via a “code roll” conversion of the SBSS software from legacy COBOL to Java code, and movement of the integrated logistics system-supply application from a proprietary information technology (IT) platform to an open IT operating environment.
Findings
The SBSS system modernization yielded immediate and significant IT operational cost reductions and provided an important foundation for achieving Air Force logistics system consolidation and cloud computing objectives going forward.
Originality/value
The SBSS modernization experience should be useful in assisting similar data system software modernization efforts.

Abstract
Purpose
This study aims to present a numerical analysis of the behavior of the electric field and flow field characteristics under electrohydrodynamics (EHD) force. The influence of the jet airflow under the EHD force is investigated when it impacts the inclined flat plate.
Design/methodology/approach
The high electrical voltage and angle of an inclined flat plate are tested in a range of 0–30 kV and 0–90°, respectively. In this condition, the air is set in a porous medium and the inlet jet airflow is varied from 0–2 m/s.
Findings
The results of this study show that the electric field line patterns increase with increasing the electrical voltage and it affects the electric force increasing. The angle of inclined flat plate and the boundary of the computational model are influenced by the electric field line patterns and electrical voltage surface. The electric field pattern is the difference in the fluid flow pattern. The fluid flow is more expanded and more concentrated with increasing the angle of an inclined flat plate, the electrical voltage and the inlet jet airflow. The velocity field ratio is increased with increasing the electrical voltage but it is decreased with increasing the angle of the inclined flat plate and the inlet jet airflow.
Originality/value
The maximum Reynolds number, the maximum velocity field and the maximum cell Reynolds number are increased with increasing the electrical voltage, the inlet jet airflow and the angle of the inclined flat plate. In addition, the cell Reynolds number characteristics are more concentrated and more expanded with increasing the electrical voltage. The pattern of numerical results from the cell Reynolds number characteristics is similar to the pattern of the fluid flow characteristics. Finally, a similar trend of the maximum velocity field has appeared for experimental and numerical results so both techniques are in good agreement.

Investigates the differences in protocols between arbitral tribunals and courts, with particular emphasis on US, Greek and English law. Gives examples of each country and its way of using the law in specific circumstances, and shows the variations therein. Sums up that arbitration is much the better way to gok as it avoids delays and expenses, plus the vexation/frustration of normal litigation. Concludes that the US and Greek constitutions and common law tradition in England appear to allow involved parties to choose their own judge, who can thus be an arbitrator. Discusses e‐commerce and speculates on this for the future.

Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to study the dimensionless characteristics of a molten salt pump and propose an approach to carry out the modeling experiment by using water instead of molten salts.
Design/methodology/approach
External characteristics of the pump were estimated by using the steady flow model and compared with the experimental results. By taking water as the working fluid, the pathlines in the volute of the model pump were validated by the results obtained of high-speed photography. According to the derived dimensionless characteristics of the molten salt pump, the modeling experimental schemes were proposed. Adopting the validated numerical simulation model, the performance of the molten salt pump was studied in detail.
Findings
The modeling experimental schemes designed according to the dimensionless characteristics are theoretically feasible. However, to carry out the experiment successfully, factors such as rotational speed, geometric size, flow rate and head should be taken into account. The flow in the pumps is similar under the similar operating condition and the external characteristics of the similar pump can be converted to each other. Compared with transporting water, the decline of the head and efficiency is within 5 per cent when the viscosity is lower than 0.01453 Pa · s. The pump is not suitable for running under the critical Reynolds number of 1.0 × 107.
Originality/value
The current work revealed the relationships among the dimensionless performances of a molten salt pump and proposed a critical Reynolds number ReQcr for the pump running.

Abstract
The Bureau of Economics in the Federal Trade Commission has a three-part role in the Agency and the strength of its functions changed over time depending on the preferences and ideology of the FTC’s leaders, developments in the field of economics, and the tenor of the times. The over-riding current role is to provide well considered, unbiased economic advice regarding antitrust and consumer protection law enforcement cases to the legal staff and the Commission. The second role, which long ago was primary, is to provide reports on investigations of various industries to the public and public officials. This role was more recently called research or “policy R&D”. A third role is to advocate for competition and markets both domestically and internationally. As a practical matter, the provision of economic advice to the FTC and to the legal staff has required that the economists wear “two hats,” helping the legal staff investigate cases and provide evidence to support law enforcement cases while also providing advice to the legal bureaus and to the Commission on which cases to pursue (thus providing “a second set of eyes” to evaluate cases). There is sometimes a tension in those functions because building a case is not the same as evaluating a case. Economists and the Bureau of Economics have provided such services to the FTC for over 100 years proving that a sub-organization can survive while playing roles that sometimes conflict. Such a life is not, however, always easy or fun.

Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to advance the understanding of brand love by studying its intensity and the nature of extreme forms of it, rather than its presence or absence. The love of a sports team is a type of brand love and is a valuable context to study of brand love intensity because the intensity of love can become more extreme than for products; it has two distinctive features that are theoretically, management and policy relevant; and it is an under-researched context in marketing that is socially and economically significant.
Design/methodology/approach
The authors empirically develop and test a multidimensional hierarchical higher-order measure of the intensity of team love and a model of its drivers and outcomes using a sample of supporter club members of a professional sports team who vary in their intensity of love for the team.
Findings
The results support our measurement model and its distinctive features, especially the importance of the perceived two-way bond fans have with their team. While overall intensity of team love is not related to social influence or on-field performance, as hypothesized, they are related to sub-dimensions of team love, reflecting its multidimensionality. As hypothesized, the intensity of team love and social influence are related to the intention to renew club membership even with increased costs and poor performance and social influence is directly related to word of mouth and game attendance.
Research limitations/implications
The research is limited to the club members of one sports team in a particular sport in one country and one cultural context. Future research opportunities include: extending it to other sports and brand contexts, refining the methodology and addressing other issues highlighted by the research.
Practical implications
The results indicate the limits of management control of team love intensity because it develops over time independently through social processes. However, firms can help facilitate these processes. The social dimensions indicate the need to develop socially, as well as individually-focussed relationship management strategies. Most devoted fans are valuable customers, but some hardcore elements can be dysfunctional and sabotage the brand.
Social implications
Sport is personally, social and economically significant in most cultures and love of a sports team love can be an important glue that binds people and communities. However, the existence of extreme hardcore fans and heated rivalries can also be divisive and pose challenges for social policy. Hence, the need to better understand the factors driving more extreme forms of team love to better inform the development of social policy.
Originality/value
The authors focus on the intensity of brand love rather than its presence and absence as in prior research. The authors develop and test a new hierarchical measure of sports team love intensity and a model of its drivers and outcomes. The sports context is under-researched in marketing but reveals the important role played by dimensions that are obscured in studies of product brand love – its social nature and the perceived reciprocal relation with devoted fans. The results contribute to developing extended theories of brand love, open up new research opportunities and have management and policy implications.

Abstract
The stereotypical image of the profession is poor with accountants appearing in the popular media as either the object of satire or the criminally inclined expert who deceives the public for self-gain. Extant research on the portrayal of the stereotypic accountant is limited in two ways: (1) existing research assumes a unitary concept by inferring a dominant image when the accountant stereotype is multifaceted; and (2) it is unclear from existing research whether the dominant image results from perceived character traits or the duties undertaken by accountants. This paper relies on qualitative methods of data analysis to unpack the elements that underpin stereotypical images in accounting to develop a framework of external perceptions that distinguishes one image from another. The framework is constructed on two broad criteria that comprise accountants (personality traits and physical characteristics) and accounting (task functionality). The interplay of these two criteria creates four subtypes representing positive (Scorekeeper and Guardian) and negative (Beancounter and Entrepreneur) interpretations of the two basic categorizations: bookkeeper and business professional. Further analysis revealed four primary dimensions (Ethics and Sociable, Skill and Service) that underlie the construction of the subtypes. In general, the ‘Scorekeeper’ rates more highly than the ‘Beancounter’ on ‘Ethics and Sociable’ and the ‘Guardian’ rates more highly than the ‘Entrepreneur’ on ‘Ethics’. Accounting researchers and the profession could benefit from understanding how stereotypical perceptions are constructed and managed.

Purpose
High Altitude Long Endurance Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (HALE UAV) driven by a hybrid power between battery and solar panel have attracted many researchers. The HALE UAV which develops at Bandung Institute of Technology has design requirements of a 63 kg MTOW with a cruise velocity of 22.1 m/s at an altitude of 60,000 ft propelled by two propellers. The main problems that arise with the propellers gained from the market are these propellers cannot operate properly at the cruise phase due to inadequate thrust and high drag value. This paper aims to design a propeller that solves those problems.
Design/methodology/approach
The Larrabee method is used to design this propeller geometry with an output in the form of a chord and twist distribution. The CFD approach method is used to improve the design resulting from the Larrabee method.
Findings
This study shows that the inputted thrust value of the propeller designed using the Larrabee method is always higher than the thrust value resulting from the CFD simulation with a difference of around 20% so a design improvement process using CFD is required.
Originality/value
The analysis of propeller implementation in various mission profiles shows that this propeller can operate fully from climbing at sea level to cruising flight at an altitude of 60,000 ft. The same procedure can be applied in other HALE UAV cases to generate a propeller design with different objectives.

In Part I the drags of certain streamline models are compared with the skin friction on thin flat plates having the same exposed surface areas and the same lengths parallel to the direction of motion. For streamline solids of revolution at low Reynolds numbers the drags approximate to the skin friction on flat plates with laminar boundry layer, while for high Reynolds numbers the approximation is to the skin friction with turbulent boundary layer; the transition from the one condition to the other occurs at, roughly, the same Reynolds numbers and in the same manner as for flat plates.
