Abstract

Purpose

This study aims to present a great deal of interest in researching plant-based phytopharmaceuticals and nutraceuticals as a possible alternative to synthetic medication, both to avoid their side effects and for financial reasons.

Design/methodology/approach

Mankind has used medicinal plants since the beginning of civilization. Nature has been explored as a source of therapeutic chemicals for thousands of years, and many modern drugs have been discovered from natural sources. The primary medical care system of resource-poor areas in India has continued to rely on traditional medicine as the most accessible and reasonably priced form of treatment.

Findings

Tinospora cordifolia is a plant that is frequently used in Ayurvedic and traditional medicine throughout India. Although almost all of its parts are used in conventional medical systems, the leaves, stems and roots are the most significant ones used medicinally. All forms of existence can benefit from the versatility of T. cordifolia. It includes a wide variety of compounds that impact the body.

Originality/value

The goal of this review is to provide a concise summary of the knowledge about the pharmacological, phytochemistry, botanical, ethnopharmacology, toxicity study, marketed products and patents of the T. cordifolia plant.

Abstract

Purpose

Through this analysis an attempt has been made to improve the reliability of an ESDS used in the cockpit.

Design/methodology/approach

The process used for carrying out FMEA is specified by MIL‐STD‐1629A procedure for carrying out failure mode, effects and criticality analysis.

Findings

In an increasing demand in avionics sector, particularly in modern defence and civil aircraft, safety and reliability are the prime concern to complete the mission successfully. This made technocrats to rethink over the safety of complete system by adding redundancy to the critical activities or what else not? The electronic stand by display system (ESDS), being an avionics unit and fitted in the cockpit for displaying very important navigation and engine parameters to pilot whenever main display unit fail to perform it primary functions. So even standby system need to have high reliability to serve the purpose by providing important flight parameters for the safe landing of pilot and crew. Failure modes and effect analysis (FMEA) is one of the effective reliability assessment tool, which evaluate systematically and document the potential failure modes of a system or equipment and their causes. It helps in grading the severity of all potential failure modes and useful in carrying out the changes in early phase of design. The analysis starts with the potential failure of a smallest component at the final indenture and goes up to the initial indenture level.

Originality/value

The paper adds insight into the reliability improvement of electronics standby display systems of modern aircraft.

Abstract

Purpose

The purpose of this paper is to investigate the effect of SiC addition up to 60 percent SiC on the mechanical properties and thermal expansion of Al‐7vol.% Si/SiC composites.

Design/methodology/approach

Composite specimens containing 7, 15, 30, 45 and 60 vol.% SiCp are fabricated by pressureless infiltration technique. The obtained metal‐matrix composites (MMCs) then are characterized for density, porosity, microhardness, ductility, and coefficients of thermal expansion (CTE).

Findings

The results show that the composite specimens have very low‐porosity volumes. Moreover, it is found that silicon carbide particles are distributed uniformly in the matrix. Both porosity and mean linear CTE of the composites decreases with silicon carbide volume fraction. However, higher amount of SiCp reinforcement content tends to increase density, microhardness and improve ductility.

Originality/value

The processing employed in this paper would enable realization of electronic packages made out of Al‐Si/SiCp MMCs.

Abstract

Purpose

The purpose of this paper is to investigate the Newtonian heating and slip effect on mixed convective flow near a stagnation point in a porous medium with thermal radiation in the presence of magnetohydrodynamic (MHD), heat generation/absorption and chemical reaction.

Design/methodology/approach

The governing nonlinear coupled equations are converted into ordinary differential equations by similarity transformation. These equations are solved numerically using a Runge–Kutta–Fehlberg method with shooting technique and analytically using the homotopy analysis method (HAM).

Findings

The effects of different parameters on the fluid flow and heat transfer are investigated. It is found that the velocity and temperature profiles increase on an increase in the Biot number. The velocity and concentration profiles increase on decreasing the chemical reaction parameter.

Practical implications

This paper is helpful to the engineers and scientists in the field of thermal and manufacturing engineering.

Originality/value

The two-dimensional boundary layer flow over a vertical plate with slip and convective boundary conditions near the stagnation-point is analysed in the presence of magnetic field, radiation and heat generation/absorption. This paper is helpful to the engineers and scientists in the field of thermal and manufacturing engineering.

Abstract

Purpose

This study is dedicated to critically analysing research addressing human resource management (HRM) and the adoption of artificial intelligence (AI) with the purpose of driving development in the field of human resources (HR) at the strategic and managerial level.

Design/methodology/approach

A systematic literature review (SLR) was conducted using the Scopus database, which gathered 61 articles between 2002 and 2022. The SLR process has the potential to, in addition to generating knowledge and theories, support and guide policy development and practice in many disciplines.

Findings

The results of this study allowed the author to identify three main conclusions: (a) there are four thematic clusters – (i) Strategic HR and AI, (ii) Recruitment and AI, (iii) Training and AI and (iv) Future of work; (b) there is a growing academic interest in studying the implementation of AI to develop the HR sector and (c) the application of AI stands out in the strategic HR and AI cluster as a means of achieving profit maximisation and the overall development of the organisation.

Originality/value

This study is the first SLR to present a strategic and managerial view on AI applications associated with specific HRM dimensions. The study is also the first SLR to identify key trends in the literature, drivers and obstacles to the development of AI in HRM and then place them within the landscape of positive and negative approaches in a framework. Also, as a contribution, the study has practical implications for HR managers and practitioners in adopting AI as a decision support in the area's processes.

Abstract

Purpose

This SWOT (strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats) analysis was conducted to have a portrait of the competitiveness of Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) on the global map. Being a 75-year-old scientific organization, CSIR has raised each and every laboratory with a specific mandate and competency. It is definite that the organization would get some assistance from these points, which are briefly stated, as the institutional data reside with the laboratory only. To some extent, they can be considered on their discretion; however, the organization has raised its position to international standards, but still it can consider few areas/suggestions from this analysis. These points are suggestive and flexible in nature, which are identified and defined to elevate this organization on the globe. Scientific publications do make a difference, but on the ground, if the technologies are not viable and received by public, it makes no difference. Today, India is fortunate to have a Prime Minister like Mr Modi, who always re-evaluates the issues and solutions so that the country moves from developing to a fast-pace developed nation. It is a fact that if these research organizations reorganize themselves and prioritize the research problems, they are capable enough to become a pioneer among the world R&D industry. This paper aims to analyze the organization and suggest few points with significant findings which can assist in scaling toward excellence on a global scale.

Design/methodology/approach

On the basis of random sampling, laboratories were identified where their achievements and contribution toward industry and society were evaluated. On the basis of their setup, the organization and laboratories were evaluated to frame-out a SWOT analysis.

Findings

SWOT analysis is a deliberate technique carried out to analyze the current situation of the system and to analyze the internal and external environment, which provides and edge to the organization to sustain. The major factors assessed were manpower, machines, money and funding, and achievements and deliverables were studied.

Originality/value

The research, i.e. SWOT, is unique in nature, as it was not carried out earlier on such a scale. To some extent, the points suggested in SWOT and conclusion can be considered on their discretion; however, the organization has raised its position to international standards, but still it can consider few areas/suggestions from this analysis. These points are suggestive and flexible in nature, which are identified and defined to elevate this organization on the globe. Scientific publications do make a difference, but on the ground; if the technologies are not viable and received by public, it makes no difference.
