The Society of Management Science and Applied Cybernetics
New Delhi, India
Dr A. Ghosal is the Editor of the journal SCIMA - Systems and Cybernetics in Management, the official journal of the Society of Management and Applied Cybernetics (SOMAC). The Society and the journal have made outstanding contributions to the fields of management science, operational research and cybernetics, particularly where they have the promise of application in industry, agriculture, social sciences, economics, biosciences, etc.

Society's Journal – SCIMA (ISSN 0376-4087)
The society's journal publishes papers which are: theoretical with a distinct application to management and other problems; case studies giving clearly a model approach to obtain solutions/computation algorithms; theoretical papers as well as application-type papers concerned with industrial and management cybernetics as well as studies of interaction between biocybernetics and social sciences, economics etc. It has a particular interest in management science in developing countries vis-à-vis developed countries. The current issue, received by the Editorial Team of Kybernetes, SCIMA, Volume 26 Number 1, 1999, contained papers on:
- •
The kth best solution in a Protean Network (Santhosh Kumar, Harjeet Arora and Ravindraw Bappoo)
- •
Analysis of a two-stage transfer line production system with unreliable machines (M.N. Gopalan and Debasis Kar)
- •
Development and implementation of a pattern recognition system in C++ using Kohonen's self organising feature map (L.P. Rai and Mukesh Lukhey)
- •
Cybernetic interpretation of Sen’s entitlement theory (A. Ghosal).
Future SOMAC Workshop
It is proposed to hold a Workshop on: Mathematics of Cybernetic Systems during 1999 under the auspices of SOMAC. The organisers believe that a strong mathematical foundation is essential for underpinning a cybernetic structure applicable in fields of macroeconomics, corporate planning, engineering. Further they say that in understanding cognitive systems, there is scope for the development of mathematical tools to help explain metaheuristics. The aim of the workshop is to bring together scientists of various disciplines and mathematicians for the purpose of exploring innovative mathematical tools and for their computer applications. A broad spectrum of topics is listed and these include: algebra of cybernetic systems; dynamic systems including those with catastrophic changes; mathematics of synergy; problems of diffusion and applications; metaheuristics; computer systems - including AI, dynamic decision systems, neural networks; applications.
