Abstract

Purpose

The purpose of this paper is to enhance the corrosion resistance of Cr-Mn austenitic stainless steel (ASS) via low temperature salt bath nitriding and to replace the convectional Cr-Ni ASS with newly developed enhanced corrosion resistive Cr-Mn ASS.

Design/methodology/approach

The low temperature salt bath nitriding was performed on Cr-Mn ASS at 450°C for 3 h in potassium nitrate salt bath.

Findings

The present paper compares the corrosion resistance of salt bath nitrided Cr-Mn ASS with convectional Cr-Ni ASSs (316 L and 304 L ASSs) in 3.5 per cent NaCl by electrochemical techniques. The electrochemical impedance spectroscopy result shows the increase in film resistance and potentiodynamic polarization results show the enhanced corrosion resistance of nitrided Cr-Mn ASS, which is almost equivalent to that of 316 L and 304 L ASSs. This is attributed to the formation of nitrogen supersaturated dense nitride layer. The present results therefore suggest that the nitrided Cr-Mn ASS may replace costly convectional Cr-Ni ASSs for commercial and industrial applications.

Originality/value

Ever-increasing price of nickel (Ni) is driving the industries to use Ni-free or low-Ni austenitic stainless steels (ASSs). But its corrosion resistance is relatively poor as compared to conventional Cr-Ni ASSs. However, its corrosion resistance can be improved by nitriding. The low temperature salt bath nitriding of Cr-Mn ASS and its electrochemical behavior in 3.5 per cent NaCl has not been studied. The present research paper is beneficial for industries to use low cost Cr-Mn, enhance its corrosion resistance and replace the use of costly conventional Cr-Ni ASSs.

Abstract

Purpose

The purpose of this study is to investigate the impact of e-service quality and e-trust on customer e-satisfaction and, subsequently, on customer e-loyalty towards a website in the online shopping environment of Pakistan.

Design/methodology/approach

The research employed a quantitative approach and utilised structural equation modelling to investigate the relationship between e-service quality and e-trust on consumers’ e-satisfaction and e-loyalty. The data were collected from 250 individuals who actively use online shopping websites to purchase products in Pakistan.

Findings

The findings revealed that e-service quality and e-trust offered on e-commerce websites significantly impacted customer e-loyalty. However, it was found that both e-service quality and e-trust do not have a significant impact on customer e-satisfaction. In addition, the findings showed that customer e-satisfaction positively impacts e-loyalty.

Research limitations/implications

Overall, these findings emphasise the importance of e-service quality, e-trust and customer e-satisfaction and their role in cultivating customer loyalty within the context of the online shopping environment in Pakistan.

Originality/value

This study contributes to the existing literature on online shopping in Pakistan by exploring the factors influencing consumer behaviour in this context. The findings add to the academic understanding of consumer behaviour and provide valuable insights for e-commerce businesses in Pakistan.

Abstract

Purpose

The main purposes of this article are twofold: (1) to investigate the unexplored connections among destination gender personality, destination stereotypes, brand attachment and destination brand love and (2) to examine the moderating role of destination involvement in the association between destination stereotypes and destination brand attachment (DBA).

Design/methodology/approach

The conceptual model is evaluated using qualitative methods (i.e. three focus groups, six academic experts and a pilot study). In addition, using an empirical study with 610 international travelers who visited Egypt selected by systematic random sampling, 8 hypotheses were analyzed and tested using structural equation modeling (SEM) by AMOS 23, confirmatory factor analyses and exploratory factor analyses.

Findings

The study’s results suggest that destination gender plays a vital role in enhancing stereotypes, stereotypes positively affect attachment and DBA positively affects destination brand love. Finally, the results show that destination involvement moderates the dual influence of the warmth and competence of stereotypes on destination attachment.

Practical implications

The research supports the contention that social perception mechanisms are crucial in destination brand perception. It offers new understandings of the association between customers' destination brand perceptions and their responses to destinations.

Originality/value

This paper contributes to the travel literature by analyzing a novel model of destination gender personality, stereotypes, DBA and destination brand love using both social role (SR) theory and a stereotype content model (SCM). Besides attempting this task, it explores the moderating role of destination involvement in the association between stereotypes and destination attachment using the elaboration likelihood model.

Abstract

Purpose

This paper aims to examine a new approach to understanding the interrelationships between destination brand gender, stereotypes, destination brand identification and brand advocacy, as well as the mediating role of destination warmth (vs. competence) in the connections between destination brand femininity (vs. masculinity) and destination brand identification.

Design/methodology/approach

A qualitative study and literature review were conducted to revisit and refine the items on the scale. Preliminary item reduction was qualitatively grounded in focus groups, a panel of experts, and a pilot study. A follow-up quantitative evaluation of two studies (N1 = 705 and N2 = 472) was conducted to test seven hypotheses using exploratory factor analysis and confirmatory factor analysis with structural equation modeling.

Findings

The findings provide robust evidence for the interrelationships among destination brand gender, stereotypes, destination identification and destination advocacy. The outcomes also reveal that warmth is more important than competence for destination identification. Finally, the results indicated that only destination warmth serves as a partial mediator in the association between destination brand masculinity and femininity, on the one hand, and destination identification, on the other hand.

Originality/value

This article adds to the destination branding literature by using social role theory and the stereotype content model to explore novel connections among destination brand gender, stereotypes, destination brand identification and brand advocacy.

Abstract

Purpose

This paper aims to investigate the high-temperature mechanical properties of HS110S steel and its corrosion behaviors in harsh downhole environment.

Design/methodology/approach

In this work, mechanical property measurements were carried out from 25°C to 350°C and the scanning electron microscopy was used to observe the fracture morphology. The weight-loss measurements and surface characterization were used to evaluate the corrosion resistance of HS110S steel in harsh downhole environment.

Findings

Results show that the yield strength and tensile strength of HS110S steel at 350 °C are 779 and 861 MPa, respectively. Compared with room temperature, the reduction rate values are both less than 20%. At the high-temperature corrosion environment (350 °C), the static and dynamic corrosion rates are 0.9668 and 1.9236 mm/a, respectively. The generated corrosion products are mainly composed of FeSx, FeCO3 and Fe3O4. Therefore, the HS110S steel applied under such conditions needs to take suitable protective measures.

Originality/value

In general, the HS110 steel has widely used in conventional development conditions (e.g. low H2S or high CO2 environments). However, to the best of the authors’ knowledge, no studies have reported on its application at more than 250°C. Therefore, this work can be a reference to the application of HS110S steel in high-temperature corrosion conditions.

Abstract

Purpose

In the last few years, the size of Linked Open Data (LOD) describing artworks, in general or domain-specific Knowledge Graphs (KGs), is gradually increasing. This provides (art-)historians and Cultural Heritage professionals with a wealth of information to explore. Specifically, structured data about iconographical and iconological (icon) aspects, i.e. information about the subjects, concepts and meanings of artworks, are extremely valuable for the state-of-the-art of computational tools, e.g. content recognition through computer vision. Nevertheless, a data quality evaluation for art domains, fundamental for data reuse, is still missing. The purpose of this study is filling this gap with an overview of art-historical data quality in current KGs with a focus on the icon aspects.

Design/methodology/approach

This study’s analyses are based on established KG evaluation methodologies, adapted to the domain by addressing requirements from art historians’ theories. The authors first select several KGs according to Semantic Web principles. Then, the authors evaluate (1) their structures’ suitability to describe icon information through quantitative and qualitative assessment and (2) their content, qualitatively assessed in terms of correctness and completeness.

Findings

This study’s results reveal several issues on the current expression of icon information in KGs. The content evaluation shows that these domain-specific statements are generally correct but often not complete. The incompleteness is confirmed by the structure evaluation, which highlights the unsuitability of the KG schemas to describe icon information with the required granularity.

Originality/value

The main contribution of this work is an overview of the actual landscape of the icon information expressed in LOD. Therefore, it is valuable to cultural institutions by providing them a first domain-specific data quality evaluation. Since this study’s results suggest that the selected domain information is underrepresented in Semantic Web datasets, the authors highlight the need for the creation and fostering of such information to provide a more thorough art-historical dimension to LOD.

Abstract

Purpose

The purpose of this research is to examine the connections between liquidity risk, credit risk, and bank profitability in India.

Methodology

In order to examine the interlinkage between liquidity risk, credit risk, and profitability of banks in India, the researcher has gathered data from all commercial banks in India from 2004–2005 to 2020–2021. The data sources included in this study encompass the International Country Risk Guide, World Development Indicators and Reserve Bank of India (RBI). Seemingly Unrelated Regression (SUR) has been utilised for the study.

Findings

Findings of this research identified that liquidity risk is inversely proportional to credit risk. Return on assets (ROA) and return on equity (ROE) are both impacted negatively by liquidity risk. ROA is impacted positively by credit risk, while ROE is impacted negatively by it. The profitability of banks is harmed by the interaction between liquidity risk and credit risk. It also shows that law and order, are beneficial to bank earnings and risk management. The capital risk-adjusted ratio has a negative relationship with bank profitability, indicating the need for better capital allocation.

Originality

The originality of this work lies in its unique contributions, It emphasises explicitly the Indian context, thereby providing insights tailored to this particular setting. It employs the SUR methodology, a statistical approach allowing for a more comprehensive data analysis. Additionally, it identifies and explores interaction effects, which can shed light on the complex relationships between variables.

Abstract

This contribution critiques U.S. practices respecting birth citizenship. It first describes the logic of territorial birthright citizenship. The practice makes sense only insofar as place of birth has supplied a proxy for community membership. But many who are born in the United States leave permanently at an early age. It is not clear why they should be able to take their citizenship with them. The paper also critiques the liberalized basis for acquiring citizenship on the basis of parentage. In both cases, birth citizenship creates an increasing disconnect between the formal and organic boundaries of community. This disconnect could be addressed by the adoption of presence requirements beyond birth. Presence requirements would be consistent with liberal values to the extent they would strengthen the solidarities of the liberal state. However, it is unclear that presence gives rise to such solidarities. It is also improbable that presence requirements will be adopted. This both evidences and reinforces the declining salience of citizenship.
