Abstract
Purpose
The innovation in big data is increasing day by day in such a way that the conventional software tools face several problems in managing the big data. Moreover, the occurrence of the imbalance data in the massive data sets is a major constraint to the research industry.
Design/methodology/approach
The purpose of the paper is to introduce a big data classification technique using the MapReduce framework based on an optimization algorithm. The big data classification is enabled using the MapReduce framework, which utilizes the proposed optimization algorithm, named chicken-based bacterial foraging (CBF) algorithm. The proposed algorithm is generated by integrating the bacterial foraging optimization (BFO) algorithm with the cat swarm optimization (CSO) algorithm. The proposed model executes the process in two stages, namely, training and testing phases. In the training phase, the big data that is produced from different distributed sources is subjected to parallel processing using the mappers in the mapper phase, which perform the preprocessing and feature selection based on the proposed CBF algorithm. The preprocessing step eliminates the redundant and inconsistent data, whereas the feature section step is done on the preprocessed data for extracting the significant features from the data, to provide improved classification accuracy. The selected features are fed into the reducer for data classification using the deep belief network (DBN) classifier, which is trained using the proposed CBF algorithm such that the data are classified into various classes, and finally, at the end of the training process, the individual reducers present the trained models. Thus, the incremental data are handled effectively based on the training model in the training phase. In the testing phase, the incremental data are taken and split into different subsets and fed into the different mappers for the classification. Each mapper contains a trained model which is obtained from the training phase. The trained model is utilized for classifying the incremental data. After classification, the output obtained from each mapper is fused and fed into the reducer for the classification.
Findings
The maximum accuracy and Jaccard coefficient are obtained using the epileptic seizure recognition database. The proposed CBF-DBN produces a maximal accuracy value of 91.129%, whereas the accuracy values of the existing neural network (NN), DBN, naive Bayes classifier-term frequency–inverse document frequency (NBC-TFIDF) are 82.894%, 86.184% and 86.512%, respectively. The Jaccard coefficient of the proposed CBF-DBN produces a maximal Jaccard coefficient value of 88.928%, whereas the Jaccard coefficient values of the existing NN, DBN, NBC-TFIDF are 75.891%, 79.850% and 81.103%, respectively.
Originality/value
In this paper, a big data classification method is proposed for categorizing massive data sets for meeting the constraints of huge data. The big data classification is performed on the MapReduce framework based on training and testing phases in such a way that the data are handled in parallel at the same time. In the training phase, the big data is obtained and partitioned into different subsets of data and fed into the mapper. In the mapper, the features extraction step is performed for extracting the significant features. The obtained features are subjected to the reducers for classifying the data using the obtained features. The DBN classifier is utilized for the classification wherein the DBN is trained using the proposed CBF algorithm. The trained model is obtained as an output after the classification. In the testing phase, the incremental data are considered for the classification. New data are first split into subsets and fed into the mapper for classification. The trained models obtained from the training phase are used for the classification. The classified results from each mapper are fused and fed into the reducer for the classification of big data.

Since 2016, organized retailers in Colombia have struggled against a new retail format: Hard-discount stores. This sales channel fulfills essential shopping basket products with consistent low prices. To be competitive and preserve their market position, organized retailers must improve their processes and their pricing decisions. Promotions and discounts have been considered as an effective alternative to compete. This study analyzes the impact of joint prices decisions over the individual and global financial key performance indicators when a collaborative strategy is adopted. Our case study comprises a supermarket chain Colombian retailer and a consumer packaged-goods manufacturer to analyze its supply chain performance. The analysis considers different product categories (food, personal care, and cosmetics) and country regions. The results highlight that benefits are unequally distributed along different echelons and supply chain performance is affected when pricing decisions are made independently.

Abstract
This qualitative study explores how multinational enterprises (MNEs) approach sustainable innovation through the lens of innovation theory and doughnut economics. The study proposes a conceptual framework to evaluate the practices of businesses and the findings illustrate how sustainable innovation occurs within two MNEs. Based on interviews with professionals of two Swedish MNEs, responsible for sustainability, the study examines how sustainable innovations lead to the redesign of core business pillars and transforms the operating market for the MNE. Overall, this study makes a theoretical contribution by formulating an application of Raworth’s (2017) doughnut model to business strategy. It also provides practical insight into the dynamics of sustainable innovation, which aims to inform and inspire further progress in sustainable development by businesses and academia.

Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to investigate the strain distribution, stress-based fracture limit and corrosion behaviour of titanium Grade 2 sheets during single point incremental forming (SPIF) process, with various computerized numerical control (CNC) spindle rotational speeds and step depths. The development of corrosion pits in 3.5 (%) NaCl solution has also been studied during the SPIF process.
Design/methodology/approach
A potentiodynamic polarization (PDP) study was performed to investigate the corrosion behaviour of titanium Grade 2 deformed samples, with various spindle rotational speeds in 3.5 (%) NaCl solution. The scanning electron microscope (SEM) and transmission electron microscope (TEM) analysis was carried out to study the fracture behaviour, dislocation densities and corrosion morphology of deformed samples.
Findings
The titanium Grade 2 sheets exhibited better strain distribution, fracture limit and corrosion resistance by increasing the CNC spindle rotational speeds, tool diameters and vertical step depths (VSD). It was recorded that varying the spindle speed affected plastic deformation which in turn affected corrosion rate.
Research limitations/implications
In this study, poor corrosion rate was observed for the as-received condition, and better corrosion rate was achieved at maximum speed of 600 rpm and 0.6 mm of VSD in the deformed sheet. This indicates that corrosion rate improved with increase in the plastic deformation. The EDS analysis report of corroded surface revealed the composition to be mainly of titanium and oxides.
Practical implications
This study discusses the strain distribution, stress-based fracture limit and corrosion behaviour by using titanium Grade 2 sheets during SPIF process.
Social implications
This study is useful in the field of automobile and industrial applications.
Originality/value
With an increase in the spindle rotational speeds and VSD, the titanium Grade 2 sheets showed better strain distribution, fracture limit and corrosion behaviour; the same is evidenced in fracture limit curve and PDP curves.

Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to identify the influence of outsourcing on open-source software (OSS) and further investigate the factors that impact the adoption of OSS in global information technology (IT) outsourcing organizations serviced by Indian IT services organizations.
Design/methodology/approach
The authors developed a conceptual model that describes the factors influencing the OSS adoption by using the technology-organization-environment framework. This quantitative explanatory study used self-administered questionnaire to collect data from 482 middle and top management employees of Indian IT services organizations. The authors analyzed the data using partial least squares to test this conceptual model.
Findings
The proposed conceptual model identified the factors which play a significant role in OSS adoption such as reliability, legal concern, software costs, management support, OSS support availability and software vendor. In contrast, this study did not find enough evidence that IT outsourcing was a significant determinant of OSS adoption.
Research limitations/implications
The main limitation of the research is that it is focused on global IT outsourcing organizations (clients) serviced by Indian IT services providers (vendors). Hence, the authors cannot generalize the finding to other regions. Also, the analysis is based on the view point of employees in vendors. Views of clients’ employees must be analyzed and triangulated with current evidence.
Practical implications
IT services providers can offer “OSS as a service” for its clients and help them address the gaps in support availability and achieve reduction in total cost of ownership of software.
Originality/value
IT services providers can use this research model to increase their understanding of why some IT outsourcing organizations choose to adopt OSS, while seemingly similar ones facing similar market conditions do not.

The globalization of world economies creates many opportunities as well as challenges for international logistics companies to gain more business chances in this changing environment. The purpose of this paper is to improve service quality of international logistics companies and explores the quality function deployment in terms of quality evaluation method. The logistics service is particularly characterized by offering a series of transport solution and including other logistics activities. The major customers of the logistics services are the industrial clients. The customer satisfaction is key managerial mission since the competitiveness is a growing issue in this industry. The quality function deployment is one of the unique procedures to expose the requirements of customer and transform them into managerial tasks by cross correlation analysis between requirements and technical measures. The empirical study is performed to investigate service quality of the logistics industry by focusing on a group of leading logistics companies.
