Abstract
Purpose
Personalization is a key element of restaurant innovation. Few studies in the business literature have examined its influence on table-service consumer behavior, including the factors that strengthen or weaken domain relations. The purpose of this paper is to investigate the effects of personalization on brand identification and repurchase intention by providing a contingent view of several crucial factors.
Design/methodology/approach
Online surveys were distributed to restaurant customers who received personalized menus, services and promotions. The authors collected data using purposive sampling and tested this study’s hypotheses using regression analysis.
Findings
The results indicate that personalization influences brand identification and loyalty behaviors. Not all aspects of employee friendliness, notably conversational skills, strengthen the links between personalization and consumer behavior. In fact, informal frontline employee attitudes negatively moderated customer brand identification. The results, however, suggest that humorous and approachable behaviors of frontline employees are essential in enhancing the effects of personalization on brand identification and revisiting intentions.
Originality/value
Drawing on self-categorization theory, this study introduces personalization as a key factor in improving brand identification and repeat purchase intentions in full-service restaurant settings. This study incorporated social exchange theory and motivational theory to construct a contingency view of frontline employee friendliness and customer motivation to better understand how customers’ dining experiences impact their post-consumption behaviors. By investigating the potential interactions between the three theoretical perspectives, this study demonstrates the relevance of personalization, cultural sensitivity and intrinsic motivation as vital components for Asian restaurants.

Abstract
Purpose
Using the stimulus–organism–response (SOR) theoretical model, this empirical research aims to examine and validate how tourists’ interactions with 360-degree virtual reality (VR) videos incorporating Web navigability and visual interface design quality (stimulus) on travel websites can make tourists more engaged and then satisfied (organism), which could make them more likely to visit destinations and spread electronic word of mouth (e-WOM) (response).
Design/methodology/approach
Using the convenience sampling method, 975 responses were collected through a questionnaire. The data were analysed using Smart-PLS 4 software to investigate the hypothesised relationships.
Findings
The findings demonstrate that 360-degree VR videos significantly create Web user engagement, and Web user engagement is significantly associated with Web user satisfaction. The result shows that Web user engagement and satisfaction impact the intention to visit the tourist destination. Additionally, Web user satisfaction impacts e-WOM. Lastly, navigability and visual interface design quality are significantly moderated between 360-degree VR videos and Web user engagement.
Research limitations/implications
This research only examined the tourists’ behavioural intentions with 360-degree VR videos during the pre-travel phase. In contrast, future research may investigate how tourists behave with VR during the on-site and post-travel phases.
Practical implications
Tourism marketers should not only adopt 360-degree VR but also integrate Web navigability and visual interface design to boost Web users’ engagement on tourism websites.
Originality/value
This study advances the study of VR from the tourists’ psychological perspective. Moreover, the SOR theory has been re-examined from the VR and technology tourism perspectives. It provides a general understanding of the behavioural aspects of tourists in developing countries.

Abstract
Purpose
In recent years, the usage rate of electronic money (e-money) has grown rapidly in many countries around the world and is becoming widely accepted in developing nations due to evolving market conditions and buying patterns. This study explores the determinants of customers' behavioural intention (BI) and actual usage behaviour (UB) of e-money service in a transition economic setting. Additionally, since there has been limited research on moderating influences, this study introduces perceived risk (PR) as a moderator, underpinned by relevant technology acceptance and behavioural theories.
Design/methodology/approach
The proposed model and hypothesised variable relationships are tested using partial least squares-structural equation modelling (PLS-SEM) with survey data from 337 e-money service users in Indonesia.
Findings
The empirical results revealed that facilitating conditions (FCs), hedonic motivation (HM), price value (PV), habit (HT) and PR are important determinants of customers’ BI towards e-money and most of these variables also affect actual UB of e-money services. Performance expectancy (PE), effort expectancy (EE) and social influence (SI) emerged to be insignificant determinants. The study also uncovered that PR negatively moderates the links between EE, SI, HM, PV and BI towards e-money services. Likewise, PR has an adverse effect on the BI–actual UB relationship.
Research limitations/implications
A large portion of the sample comprised young individuals with tertiary education. In essence, the sample represents the millennial generation and they are generally characterised as responsive, innovative and technology literate. Future studies could advance the present understanding by comparing different customer backgrounds and country.
Practical implications
The results shed light into the key factors that enhance e-money usage behaviours and have direct managerial implications with regard to brand strategy and market targeting. The findings imply that e-money service providers should take initiatives to retain users with effective and personalised marketing efforts, particularly via mobile media brand promotions.
Originality/value
While there has been considerable discussion on how PR may impact on initial preference and adoption of e-money, existing studies seem to fall short in conceptualising and empirically examining the moderating role of PR on the determinants and outcome of e-money BI.

Abstract
Purpose
Researchers have paid little attention to elucidating how customer-perceived innovative apparel attributes are linked to brand reputation and consumer buying behaviors. This study intends to bridge that gap by providing empirical evidence on the effects of product novelty, product difference and product inimitability on brand reputation and behavioral intentions in the context of garment purchasing. We also investigate the moderating effects of self-congruity and value consciousness on the attribute‒brand reputation linkages, as well as their immediate influence on the domain variables.
Design/methodology/approach
The proposed model was estimated using data from a web-based survey of 299 female apparel customers. Structural equation modeling was employed to test the relationships between variables.
Findings
The results indicate that product novelty, product inimitability, self-congruity and value consciousness significantly influence brand reputation. The results also demonstrate that self-congruity, value consciousness and brand reputation have direct effects on behavioral intention, while self-congruity and value consciousness appear to moderate the relationship between innovative product attributes and brand reputation.
Originality/value
This study is the first to present a conceptual model that systematically encompasses product innovation, brand perceptions and behavioral links in the field of women's clothing. The findings have important implications for both academics and practitioners in the field of fashion marketing.

Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to introduce a conceptual framework that can facilitate investigations concerning the impact of marketing communication and financial consideration on the relationship between customer attitude and purchase intention of Islamic banking products and services.
Design/methodology/approach
This conceptual paper is structured based on the extant literature; it provides a review of theoretical perspectives, highlights the gap and illustrates the significance for developing a framework.
Findings
The authors identify notable patterns and limitations in previous empirical studies. Specifically, despite increasing interest in Islamic banking customer behavior, prior research has not given much attention to explore moderating effects on the customer attitude–intention link. This has left researchers and bank managers with very limited information to explain the conditions that enhance customers’ attitude and intentions toward Islamic banking products. Based on this backdrop, the paper displays a viable research model with propositions that assess potential moderating effects on the domain relationship.
Research limitations/implications
This paper contributes to Islamic banking and management literature because prior research has predominantly focused on variables that directly influence customers’ behavior. This novel conceptual framework enables managers to better understand their customers and has implications for emerging themes, such as formulating strategies for specific customer groups and internationalization process. In addition, this paper provides a starting point to empirically examine whether and how the proposed moderators affect the link between customer attitude and behavioral intentions to purchase Islamic banking products.
Originality/value
To the best of knowledge, this is the first attempt to introduce relevant moderating variables for investigating the attitude and intention nexus in an Islamic banking context. Furthermore, the authors propose a new measure, namely, profit-loss sharing proportions which could enhance customers’ intention to purchase Islamic banking products.

Abstract
Purpose
Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) are an important contributor to emerging countries’ economic growth. However, SMEs have been struggling to sustain their performance in a highly competitive environment. Thus, this study aims to re-examine the effect of SMEs’ entrepreneurial orientation (EO) on firms’ performance during the COVID-19. This study has also studied the moderating role of social media usage and the mediating role of marketing capabilities and social media usage.
Design/methodology/approach
This study used a structured questionnaire for data collection, where the unit of analysis was the manager or owner of SMEs. The data were analyzed using partial least square-structural equation modeling.
Findings
The findings show that an EO has a significant and positive effect on an SME’s performance, but the outcomes are conditional on the role of social media and marketing capabilities. The empirical results reveal that marketing capabilities significantly mediate the relationship between EO and SME performance. In addition, social media usage moderates the relationship between EO and SME performance and it also partially mediates the EO-performance nexus of SMEs. Finally, this study discovers that the EO-Performance nexus of SMEs is serially mediated by social media usage and marketing capabilities.
Research limitations/implications
This study has important implications for SMEs that are seeking to gain a competitive advantage. For example, an SME should deploy market activities through social media channels. In situations such as a pandemic and uncertainty, this could be the most effective tool.
Originality/value
This study builds a theory-based mediation-moderation model to explain the link between EO and SME performance. In explaining mediation-moderation effects, the current study provides insight into EO-performance relationships. Moreover, the current model facilitates exploring whether serial mediation passes through social media usage and market capabilities. Therefore, with new findings, the study extends the literature on serial mediation in the EO-performance of SMEs. Additionally, this study extends the literature on the moderating role of social media on SMEs in Indonesia, which has not been investigated. Besides, the current study adds new insight into the EO-performance of SME in COVID-19 condition.

Abstract
This study aims to determine the impact of health-related views on mobile payment adoption in Sri Lanka from a broader viewpoint. The scale used to quantify each construct was based on earlier research, with modest alterations to fit the pandemic situation. First, an online survey was administered to undergraduates using convenience sampling to acquire appropriate replies. Eliminating incomplete and unusable questionnaires, 266 responses were gathered with an 88.7% response rate. Finally, after removing incomplete and ineffective questionnaires, 243 responses were selected for the analysis. Health consciousness, perceived ease of use, and usefulness have a significant positive relationship between attitude and behavioural intention to mobile payments. Moreover, the attitude has a significant positive relationship with mobile payment usage. As the health consciousness increases the usefulness and intention to use mobile payments, bank managers can focus on this new customer segment. Accordingly, they can use their promotional campaigns to highlight the importance of shifting towards m-payments during the pandemic times. This is the first study that investigates the role of health-related perceptions on the mobile payment adoption in Sri Lanka to the best of the authors’ knowledge.
