Abstract
Purpose
Drones are used in several purposes including examining areas, mapping surroundings and rescue mission operations. During these tasks, they could encounter compound surroundings having multiple obstacles, acute edges and deadlocks. The purpose of this paper is to propose an obstacle dodging technique required to move the drones autonomously and generate the obstacle's map of an unknown place dynamically.
Design/methodology/approach
Therefore, an obstacle dodging technique is essentially required to move autonomously. The automaton of drones requires complicated vision sensors and a high computing force. During this research, a methodology that uses two basic ultrasonic-oriented proximity sensors placed at the center of the drone and applies neural control using synaptic plasticity for dynamic obstacle avoidance is proposed. The two-neuron intermittent system has been established by neural control. The synaptic plasticity is used to find turning angles from different viewpoints with immediate remembrance, so it helps in decision-making for a drone. Hence, the automaton will be able to travel around and modify its angle of turning for escaping objects during the route in unknown surroundings with narrow junctions and dead ends. Furthermore, wherever an obstacle is detected during the route, the coordinate information is communicated using RESTful Web service to an android app and an obstacle map is generated according to the information sent by the drone. In this research, the drone is successfully designed and automated and an obstacle map using the V-REP simulation environment is generated.
Findings
Simulation results show that the drone effectively moves and turns around the obstacles and the experiment of using web services with the drone is also successful in generating the obstacle's map dynamically.
Originality/value
The obstacle map generated by autonomous drone is useful in many applications such as examining fields, mapping surroundings and rescue mission operations.

Abstract
Purpose
The present study reviews the theoretical and empirical literature about the significance of international migrants' remittance to empirically analyse the effect of remittance on the productivity growth of developing countries using a panel dataset from 1991 to 2021.
Design/methodology/approach
The study utilised the data envelopment analysis (DEA)-based Malmquist Productivity Index (MPI) to measure nationwide production efficiencies. It first performed a unit root test, cointegration test and pool mean group autoregressive distributed lag (PMG-ARDL) technique. To assess the robustness of the findings, the study also uses dynamic ordinary least squares (DOLS) and fully modified OLS (FMOLS) estimators.
Findings
The results demonstrated that remittances are a significant source of funding that promotes innovation [i.e. technological progress (TEC)] and hastens the country's total factor productivity (TFP) growth. However, the study needed to have established the effect of inward remittances on the nation's technical efficiency (EFF).
Research limitations/implications
As remittances encourage innovation and TFP growth (TFPG), the concerned governments must create favourable and enabling economic environments to increase remittance inflows, which will have far-reaching growth repercussions.
Originality/value
The present study emphasises the connection between remittances and productivity growth, the disintegration of TFP, advanced econometric techniques and contribution to research policy. Despite prior literature exploring the effect of remittances on economic growth, a dearth of literature exists on how remittances affect a country's productivity. The output-based MPI methodology used in this study offered a nuanced understanding of how remittances affect many facets of productivity growth in developing nations.

In India, 52% of e-commerce consumers actively engage in hyperlocal commerce, representing a substantial increase in online purchasing and hyperlocal services over the past two years. How individuals discover, select, and acquire products and services has been significantly altered due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Digital payments and contactless deliveries have become indispensable in the current dynamic environment, affording consumers enhanced security and convenience. Radio-frequency identification (RFID) technology has enabled the widespread adoption of contactless payments, including Europay, MasterCard, and Visa (EMV) chip cards, which eliminate the need for customers to swipe their cards during physical transactions. Particularly in the fast food, pharmaceutical, and supermarket industries, the symbiotic relationship between e-commerce and contactless payments has experienced significant expansion in India. This chapter investigates the synergies between cashless, contactless, and autonomous purchasing in the digital age. This research examines these technologies’ reciprocal reinforcement and interconnections, focusing on their profound influence on retail transactions and purchasing experiences. The progressive development of payment systems is evidenced by the expanding prevalence of contactless transactions, facilitated by innovations such as the “tap to pay” feature partnership between Paytm and Kotak Mahindra. The year 2023 is anticipated to witness several significant developments, including the expansion of virtual retail, the push for contactless transactions, and the establishment of initiatives such as the open network for digital commerce. The range of applications for frictionless, contactless, and autonomous shopping is extensive, encompassing mobile payment applications such as Apple Pay and Google Pay and proprietary apps developed by retailers to enhance the purchasing experience.

Abstract
The construction industry's application of supply chain management (SCM) principles is confronted with numerous Gordian Knots ranging from late delivery, fragmentation and others. The challenges could be attributed to multiple factors. The most crucial amongst them are adopting management ideas rooted in the second and third industrial revolution without taking consideration of the present industrial revolution. Evidence from literature and practice revealed that we are presently in the fourth industrial revolution (4IR). This chapter calls for developing a model that supports construction supply chain management (CSCM) in tandem with the principles of 4IR. This chapter presents the idea behind the conception, development and benefit of this research book to construction stakeholders and academia. The various shortcomings in the existing model for CSCM were also discussed in this chapter extensively.

Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to examine diverse literature available worldwide on the Basel norms readiness and risk management by thoroughly analyzing the empirical studies of past 13 years, i.e. from 2001 to 2013.
Design/methodology/approach
A qualitative approach has been used to analyze and compare the main findings as well as applicability of the research papers. Hence, by using an interpretive and critical approach through content analysis of the studies reviewed, the important measures, i.e. objectives, research methodology, sample size, respondents’ profile and significant findings, have been reported.
Findings
The study attempted to understand the trend of various research aspects prevailing in the field of banking industry related to the implementation of Basel norms. The content analysis of the reviewed studies demonstrated varied level of preparedness of banks in different countries, at different periods with regard to Basel norms. However, over time, awareness and compliance with Basel norms have increased in almost every part of the world. These studies also highlighted the benefits of Basel norm compliance by banks, such as more proactive portfolio management, forward-looking risk management, improved operational efficiency and better risk appetite. Further, data acquisition, data reporting, lack of prerequisite human resources, training and education, scarce resources and disclosure requirements were reported to be major challenges by most of the studies.
Originality/value
As there are relatively few studies providing a comprehensive review of literature in this area, this study builds up a strong conceptual framework for the researchers by examining the vast literature on Basel norms and risk management in banks.

Abstract
Purpose
Circular supply chain management (CSCM) is considered a promising solution to attain sustainability in the current industrial system. Despite the exigency of this approach, its application in the food industry is a challenge because of the nature of the industry and CSCM being a novel approach. The purpose of this study is to develop an industry-based systematic analysis of CSCM by examining the challenges for its application, exploring the effects of recognised challenges on various food supply chain (FSC) stages and investigating the business processes as drivers.
Design/methodology/approach
Stakeholder theory guided the need to consider stakeholders’ views in this research and key stakeholders directly from the food circular supply chain were identified and interviewed (n = 36) following qualitative methods.
Findings
Overall, the study reveals that knowledge, perception towards environmental initiatives and economic viability are the major barriers to circular supply chain transition in the UK FSC.
Originality/value
This research provides a holistic perspective analysing the loopholes in different stages of the supply chain and investigating the way a particular circular supply chain stage is affected by recognised challenges through stakeholder theory, which will be a contribution to designing management-level strategies. Reconceptualising this practice would be beneficial in bringing three-tier (economic, environmental and social) benefits and will be supportive to engage stakeholders in the sustainability agenda.

Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to establish a mathematical model to investigate the propagation of waves at an imperfect boundary between heat conducting micropolar elastic solid and fluid media.
Design/methodology/approach
Wave propagation and reflection methods have been applied to solve the problem. The expressions for reflection and transmission coefficients are obtained. The corresponding derivation for the normal force stiffness, transverse force stiffness, transverse couple stiffness and perfect bonding has also been included.
Findings
A computer program is developed and numerical results are computed to obtain the reflection and transmission coefficients of various reflected waves with incident waves. Some special and particular cases are also discussed.
Originality/value
In this paper, stiffness effect on these amplitude ratios with the angle of incidence has been observed and depicted graphically.

Case overview/synopsis
This case is about the quest of three MBA students who accidentally get into argument about footwear brands. This argument leads them to Punjabi ethnic footwear popularly known as “Punjabi Jutti.” They decide to understand the background of “Punjabi Jutti” and the possibility of developing a brand for the same. An extensive research was carried out through the various online and offline platforms. The research included searching through the existing literature, collecting data from the various online platforms such as e-commerce websites and interviews from the field. The research revealed that this traditional artwork is an unorganized sector. The manufacturers and marketers are two main parts of this business. However, the mainstay of the business is the skilled labors who know the art of making “Punjabi Jutti.” This art has been inherited by them from their previous generations. Also, it was found that there was good demand of the “Punjabi Jutti” in India and it was exported to various countries as well. Customers had a mix response toward these products. This extensive research has now put these students in a dilemma as to what should be the next step. Should they step into this business by creating their own brand? Will this entrepreneurship venture be sustainable? If they created a brand for the “Punjabi Jutti” then what kind of brand it would be?
