Abstract
Economic costs and benefits are at the core while taking decision to adopt digitalization in the supply chain. The present chapter provides an in-depth exploration of the economic dimensions of digital supply chain management (DSCM) adoption in a firm. Drawing from a diverse source of literature, this chapter discusses the effect of economic outlook on DSCM adoption, the economic benefits of DSCM adoption and costs associated with it, and economic analysis and evaluation methodologies. The chapter also shares the case studies illustrating the real-world implications of economic considerations within DSCM initiatives. The chapter highlights how changing international socioeconomic and political dynamics can influence businesses across the globe. By analyzing the impacts of evolving market trends, changing consumer preferences, and geopolitical tensions, organizations can considerably forecast the possible impacts of these macroeconomic forces adeptly. The chapter also undertakes discussion on the economic cost and benefits associated with DSCM adoption. The economic analysis helps understand that the expected benefits outweigh economic costs, substantiating the economic viability of DSCM projects. The chapter concludes by discussing the examples of some real-world companies, highlighting how organizations have successfully applied economic analyses to their DSCM initiatives. This also highlights as to how showcasing how detailed economic assessments can justify substantial investments, deliver operational efficiencies, and reshape industries.

Digital technologies (DTs) have emerged as a major driving force, transmuting the ways Supply Chains (SCs) are managed. The integration of DTs in supply chain management (SCM), Digital Supply Chain Management (DSCM), has fundamentally reshaped the SCM landscape, offering new opportunities and challenges for organizations. This chapter provides a comprehensive overview of modern DTs and the way they impact modern SCM. This chapter has twofold objectives. First, it illustrates the major changes that DTs have brought to the supply chain landscape, unraveling their multifaceted implications. Second, it offers readers a deeper and comprehensive understanding of the challenges and opportunities arising from the incorporation of DTs into supply chains. By going through the chapter, readers will be able to have a comprehensive grasp of how DTs are reshaping SCM and how organizations can survive and thrive in the digital age. This chapter commences by shedding light on how DTs have and continue to redefine SCM, improving supply chain resilience, visibility, and sustainability in an increasingly complex and interconnected world. It also highlights the role of DTs in enhancing SC visibility, agility, and customer-centricity. Furthermore, this chapter briefly highlights the challenges related to the adoption (pre and post) of DTs in SCM, elucidating on issues related to talent acquisition, data security, and regulatory compliance. It also highlights the ethical and societal implications of this digital transformation, emphasizing the significance of responsible and sustainable practices. Abstract
The present chapter discusses evolution, definitions, dimensions, capabilities, and the present state of the art of digital supply chain management (DSCM). The objective of the chapter is to offer a detailed understanding of DSCM, by shedding light on its historical development, exploring its multipronged definitions, and highlighting its core dimensions and capabilities in the contemporary business landscape. The evolution of DSCM appears as a central theme, rooted in the background of industrial revolutions. It starts by relooking at the First Industrial Revolution (IR) with its mechanization and steam power, progresses through the Second IR with electrification and mass production, and arrives at the Third IR, characterized by the rise of computers and the internet. The pivoting transition into the Fourth IR, also called Industry 4.0, marks the start of DSCM with its fusion of digital technologies (DTs) in the supply chain (SC) processes. Analysis of key definitions of DSCMs unveils their role as an enabler of SC collaboration, customer-centric nature, having overarching reliance on DTs. Moreover, the chapter explores the core dimensions of DSCM, exposing its ability to improve SC resilience, sustainability, visibility, efficiency, and agility. These capabilities stem from seamlessly woven DT developments into SC: artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning, the Internet of Things (IoT), and advanced analytics. The chapter concludes by highlighting the present state of the art in DSCM, reflecting its indispensable role in the contemporary turbulent business dynamics. In short, this chapter offers a synthesized view of DSCM's definitions, dimensions, evolution, capabilities, and present status within the larger context of supply chain management (SCM) literature.

Abstract
Purpose
This paper aims to examine the role of corporate governance (CG) in the earnings management (EM) of affiliated companies in family business groups (FBGs) listed on the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX), using principal–principal agency theory.
Design/methodology/approach
The sample of 327 nonfinancial firms of the PSX, consisting of 187 group-affiliated firms and 140 nonaffiliated firms has been used in this study for the period of 2010 to 2019. The study uses different regression models for analysis, with robustness tests of various alternative measures of EM and FBG affiliation. In addition, endogeneity is controlled with the propensity score matching method.
Findings
The findings show that EM is less prevalent in affiliated firms compared to nonaffiliated companies. The results show a negative and significant relationship between FBGs affiliated firms and EM. Moreover, the results also show a positive relationship between EM and the interaction term of the CG index and group affiliation. It refers to the fact that effective governance cannot reduce EM in affiliated companies of FBGs as well as in the nonfinancial companies of the PSX. In addition, the quality of CG is higher in affiliated companies compared to its counterpart in nonaffiliated firms. The findings support the principal–principal agency theory that CG cannot mitigate the expropriating behavior of controlling shareholders against minority shareholders by reducing EM in emerging markets due to the ownership concentration phenomenon.
Research limitations/implications
This research study has implications for small investors, government agencies and regulators. The findings of the study show that CG code should make it mandatory for companies to reveal information about their complex ownership structure and ownership information about affiliated companies and directors. Furthermore, it is suggested to revisit the code of CG in the Pakistani context of principal–principal conflict instead of the agent–principal explanation of agency theory based on Anglo–Saxon countries.
Originality/value
This research study has contributed to the CG and FBG literature in relation to EM in idiosyncratic settings of Pakistan. One of the prime contributions of the paper is the development of a comprehensive CG index. This research study used detailed, manually collected novel data on affiliated firms of FBGs in Pakistan.

The COVID-19 pandemic exposed the vulnerabilities of traditional supply chains, highlighting the need for resilience and adaptability. The chapter begins by examining these COVID-induced disruptions, setting the foundation for the discussion on DSCM. DSCM, leveraging advanced technologies and data insights, offers a solution to these challenges, promoting agility, transparency, and sustainability in supply chain operations. This represents a significant shift from traditional practices, equipping organizations to cope with the dynamic postpandemic environment. Key capabilities of DSCM, such as resilience, integration, agility, and risk management, are discussed, supported by real-world examples from leading companies. These examples showcase the successful implementation of DSCM and its benefits in navigating the complexities of modern supply chains. However, the adoption of DSCM is not without challenges, including cybersecurity risks and integration difficulties. The chapter suggests strategies to overcome these challenges, emphasizing the importance of technology, collaboration, sustainability, and data-driven decision-making. By embracing these strategies, organizations can effectively manage their supply chains in the evolving global market, leveraging DSCM to withstand future uncertainties.

Abstract
Small business enterprises (SBEs) are a very critical element of the micro, small and medium enterprises (MSME) sector especially in the underdeveloped locations of the country. SBEs not only provide employment but also support the local economy by way of their products and services. In modern times, their presence on the digital platform is becoming essential and thus, these types of studies are required to bring to the table the issues and practices from the less represented sections of the sector. This study attempts to understand the responsiveness of the SBEs in Sikkim, India, and Bhutan in terms of their frequency of digital marketing (DM) usage. This study also attempts to understand the relationship between the factors affecting the practice or adoption of DM among the SBEs of Bhutan and Sikkim, India. For this purpose, empirical data were gathered from 320 SBEs from Sikkim and Bhutan representing the various sectors as defined by the national governments of the two countries. The SBEs of Bhutan and Sikkim are not found to be very active on the front of DM. The SBEs in these two locations need to become more active in using the digital platforms and tools to promote their products and services. The industry trends and government support in the form of infrastructural development are expected to play a vital role in orienting the SBEs into the adoption of DM in a better way. This study is crucial for the MSME sector, the government, telecom services providers, and local entrepreneurs.

Abstract
Pakistan is one of the most climate change and natural disaster-affected countries in the globe, where the lives and livelihoods of people are repeatedly affected due to these natural disasters. Over the past few decades, the country has been impacted by numerous devastating floods, droughts, and storms. As a result, households face enormous complications, particularly those dwelling in disaster-prone areas. Therefore, this study intends to explore the status of household vulnerability and resilience practices of hazard-prone communities in Pakistan from existing literature. This study has identified the 17 most relevant documents. It argues that household vulnerability is increasing consistently with the increasing rate of disaster intensity. Frequent flooding, landslide, erosion, and crop loss are the leading causes of household vulnerability. This study reveals five types of household vulnerability components which look into several livelihood vulnerability indicators of Pakistani households. Moreover, the study unfolds that the main causes of disaster vulnerability are widespread crop loss, a lack of water, loss of soil fertility, and low socioeconomic situations. The major vulnerability components of dwellers are exposure (increasing summer duration, the rapid increase of population house build-up in the riparian areas, and increasing occurrence of hailstorms), sensitivity, low access to education facilities, human loss, diseases infestation, food insecurity, and social conflict), and less adaptive capacity (social networks, migration, poor emergency services, multiple income sources, and less access to the health facility). To address the household vulnerability, this study has also identified four key aspects of resilience, like social resilience, economic resilience, institutional resilience, and physical resilience. The findings will effectively help to understand the dynamics of household vulnerability and resilience and its measurement and management strategy from developed indicators.

Purpose
This paper aims to address the flow features of Ree–Eyring fluid between two rotating disks subject to the magnetic field. Heat transfer features are discussed through viscous dissipation and nonlinear thermal radiation. Impact of thermophoresis and Brownian movement are elaborated. Physical characteristics of entropy generation optimization in nanofluid with homogeneous and heterogeneous chemical reaction are discussed.
Design/methodology/approach
The nonlinear system leads to ordinary one through the implementation of adequate transformation and then tackled analytically for a convergent series solution by homotopy analysis method.
Findings
The prime objective of the present research has been given to investigate entropy generation in Ree–Eyring fluid flow between two rotating disks subjected to the magnetic field. Vital features, namely, Brownian motion and thermophoresis have been addressed. Total entropy rate is computed using the second law of thermodynamics.

Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to address entropy generation in flow of thixotropic nonlinear radiative nanoliquid over a variable stretching surface with impacts of inclined magnetic field, Joule heating, viscous dissipation, heat source/sink and chemical reaction. Characteristics of nanofluid are described by Brownian motion and thermophoresis effect. At surface of the sheet zero mass flux and convective boundary condition are considered.
Design/methodology/approach
Considered flow problem is mathematically modeled and the governing system of partial differential equations is transformed into ordinary ones by using suitable transformation. The transformed ordinary differential equations system is figure out by homotopy algorithm. Outcomes of pertinent flow variables on entropy generation, skin friction, concentration, temperature, velocity, Bejan, Sherwood and Nusselts numbers are examined in graphs. Major outcomes are concluded in final section.
Findings
Velocity profile increased versus higher estimation of material and wall thickness parameter while it decays through larger Hartmann number. Furthermore, skin friction coefficient upsurges subject to higher values of Hartmann number and magnitude of skin friction coefficient decays via materials parameters. Thermal field is an increasing function of Hartmann number, radiation parameter, thermophoresis parameter and Eckert number.
Originality/value
The authors have discussed entropy generation in flow of thixotropic nanofluid over a variable thicked surface. No such consideration is yet published in the literature.

Abstract
Purpose
Big Data can be utilised for efficient use of resources and to provide better services to the resident in order to enhance the delivery of urban services and create sustainable build environment. However, the adoption of Big Data faces many challenges at the implementation level. Therefore, the purpose of this paper is to identify the challenges towards the efficient application of Big Data in smart cities development and analyse the inter-relationships.
Design/methodology/approach
The 14 Big Data challenges are identified through the literature review and validated with the expert’s feedback. After that the inter-relationships among the identified challenges are developed using an integrated approach of fuzzy Interpretive Structural Modelling (fuzzy-ISM) and fuzzy Decision-Making Trial and Evaluation Laboratory (fuzzy-DEMATEL).
Findings
Evaluation of interrelationships among the challenges suggests that diverse population in smart cities and lack of infrastructure are the significant challenges that impede the integration of Big Data in the development of smart cities.
Research limitations/implications
This study will enable practitioners, policy planners involved in smart city projects in tackling the challenges in an optimised manner for the hindrance free and accelerated development of smart cities.
Originality/value
This research is an initial effort to develop an interpretive structural model of Big Data challenges for smart cities development which gives a clearer picture of how the identified challenges interact with each other.
