Nicotinic acid has been found to be a fairly satisfactory inhibitor for the corrosion of pure aluminium in hydrochloric acid solutions, the efficiency being in the 59 to 98% range. Anode polarisation is low, whereas the cathode polarisation is considerable. The corrosion process seems to be essentially under cathodic control.

Thiourea and nicotinic acid are good inhibitors for the corrosion of brass in nitric acid solutions. Polarisation studies indicate that the anode polarisation with nicotinic acid is less than that on the cathode side. Both the inhibitors increase the cathode and anode polarisation considerably.

Abstract
Results are presented of the inhibitor efficiencies of acridine, nicotinic acid, thiourea, strychnine and quinine hydrochloride on the corrosion of aircraft aluminium‐zinc alloy. The first three inhibitors are the most efficient. Polarisation studies with quinine hydrochloride show that anode polarisation is low, whereas cathode polarisation is considerable. The corrosion process with this inhibitor appears to be essentially under cathodic control.

Abstract
Organic compounds containing sulphur, nitrogen and oxygen atoms are capable of retarding metallic corrosion. As the thiourea molecule contains one sulphur and two nitrogen atoms, thiourea and its derivatives are potential corrosion inhibitors. While extensive investigations have been carried out on inhibitor properties of thiourea, due attention has not yet been paid to a systematic study of inhibitor action of thiourea derivatives. However, several substituted thioureas have been investigated as corrosion inhibitors. The applications of thiourea and its derivatives as corrosion inhibitors reported in literature up to 1967 are narrated in this article.

Abstract
The effect of benzimidazole‐2‐tione and benzoxazole‐2‐tione derivatives on the corrosion of aluminium in 0.1 M HCl has been investigated by a potentiostatic polarisation technique. Inhibition efficiencies were found to follow the order: benzimidazole‐2‐tione > 5‐methyl benzimidazole‐2‐tione > 5‐chloro benzimidazole‐2‐tione, while that of benzoxazole‐2‐tione derivatives were found to follow the order: 5‐methyl benzoxazole‐2‐tione > benzoxazole‐2‐tione > 5‐chloro benzoxazole‐2‐tione > 5‐nitro benzoxazole‐2‐tione. The inhibitive action of these heterocyclic compounds was mainly due to adsorption on the metal surfaces, which show parallelism with the calculated total negative charge of each of the molecules. Thermodynamic parameters, such as values of free energies of adsorption ΔGads and values of equilibrium constants Kads, were determined. Activation energies Ea, activation enthalpies ΔH* and activation entropies ΔS* were determined from the corrosion currents measured at different temperatures.

Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this study is to deepen the understanding of individuals’ flood disaster mitigation behaviour through the theoretical lens of self-determination theory (SDT). Specifically, the paper examines the influence of autonomy, competence and relatedness on individuals’ self-determined motivation for flood disaster mitigation. The study also examines whether self-determined motivation influences individuals’ flood disaster mitigation behaviour adoption.
Design/methodology/approach
Through a cross-sectional survey design, the study used a quantitative research approach for data collection and analyses. Specifically, data was analysed using the structural equation modelling technique.
Findings
The result of this study revealed that competence was the strongest predictor of self-determined motivation, followed by autonomy. The result further shows that self-determined motivation positively influences individual’s adoption of flood mitigation behaviour. However, the results showed that relatedness does not predict self-determined motivation for flood disaster mitigation.
Practical implications
To enhance the effectiveness of flood disaster mitigation social marketing campaigns, the SDT psychological needs constructs (particularly, competence and autonomy) can aid in assessing the motivation of the target population towards adopting mitigation behaviours. An assessment of motivation will help understand perception of flood risk and behavioural evaluation. The consideration of autonomy and competence on motivation will aid in developing effective campaigns to satisfy the needs of the target population.
Originality/value
The paper adds to the limited research that used SDT to understand a social marketing phenomenon.

Abstract
This chapter adopts the midrange theories schema to expand Pels and Sheth (2017) matrix on business models to serve the low-income consumers (LIC): market adaptation, mission focus, radical innovation, and inclusive ecosystems. To this end, it identifies the underlying general business theories (systems theory and neo-classical economics) and ontological theories (positivism and interpretivist) nested in each of the matrix’s four cells.
Understanding the general theories from which concepts and guidelines are drawn allows a two-way contribution. On one hand, it comprehends which other concepts can be integrated into the LIC literature. Alternatively, it highlights what insights generated from the study of the LIC markets bring to these theories.
