Barrier foil experts at John S Bass & Co Ltd of Manchester, who have recently gained British Standard 5750 approval for their International Foils Packaging Division, are putting the experience to the advantage for others. Bass has set up an Industrial Packaging Consultancy Service which advises companies on how to pack in accordance with BS5750.

Abstract

Barrier foil for heavy duty use. John S Bass & Co Ltd, Castle Street, Knott Mill, Manchester M3 3ND, has added Seetclad to its range of barrier foils. Seetclad is a Seet barrier foil based material treated with a special rubber solution coating, which claims Bass, gives it a zero rated water vapour transmission rate. It is water‐tight, air‐tight and gas‐tight and can be supplied in lightweight and heavyweight qualities.

Polythene has been the most popular packaging material used in the UK for many years. Despite its obvious moisture vapour transmission rate inadequacies (five hundred gauge polythene allows water vapour through at a rate of four grammes per square metre every twenty‐four hours) polythene continues to be the most widely used means of packing protection.

Texas Eastern, PIH and BRIT in research contract. Pipeline Induction Heat, the specialist pipeline technology company based in High Wycombe, U.K. and Texas Eastern North Sea, Inc. the U.K. subsidiary of the Houston based oil company has signed a major pioneering research contract to develop advanced internal/external coating systems for the pipeline industry. It will be the first research and development contract in Britain to arise from the new criteria for North Sea oil companies laid down by the Department of Energy in the 9th Licencing round.
