Abstract

A mathematical model of the extracellular electric field of an active neuron is proposed under a set of simplifying assumptions. The basic assumption is that the electric field is quasi‐stationary. Consequently, the field potential can be obtained by solving the Laplace equation. The main aim of the model is to formulate boundary conditions, which are not rotationally symmetric, and to include the influence of dendrites in the computations. A formula representing the electrical and geometrical composition of the nerve cell is developed, which describes the time and space behavior of the extracellular potential. The results obtained from the model and experimental data closely agree. Possible applications of the model as a means of interpreting experimental data are discussed.

Abstract

This narrative shares a personal account of how the actions of one person can truly motivate, inspire, and challenge another person to transform. This reflective story outlines the actions of my transformational leader and also indicates how those behaviors align with a transformational leadership model published well after the interaction. I also challenge the reader to reach out to their transformational leader and reflect on their own personal development.

Abstract

THERE are no motions of ultimate importance to be submitted to the Library Association Annual General Meeting this year. That which, if passed, is to provide that the President shall be installed in office at the opening of the Annual Conference in itself is merely a domestic or internal Association matter. As we have argued in THE LIBRARY WORLD such an arrangement would give a more dramatic and dignified opening to the President's year; he would be installed by the outgoing President in the presence of the largest assembly that the members can make in body; indeed on the only occasion in a normal year in which he sees and is seen by a full meeting; instead as now rising to take charge of us and to make his most important address as unobtrusively as an ordinary member at a time when his term is almost over. It is a better entry for him and for us, as a spectacle and demonstration, than a small January induction on a cold and usually wet evening at Chaucer House attended at best by not more than a hundred members.

Who would have thought that John Davies had literary aspirations? Britain's Secretary for Trade and Industry is also, as he tells Richard Brooks, a dab‐hand in the kitchen. His sauces are quite something to behold. Picture by Dmitri Kasterine.

Abstract

In past years, Zuclopenthixolacetate as well as Flupentixoldecanoate have each proven to be reliable and efficient in the treatment of schizophrenic psychoses. In a specially implemented psychiatric treatment unit (PTU) we administered a high‐dose depot neuroleptic combination therapy initially consisting of both substances to seriously ill schizophrenic prisoners who exhibited highly aggressive behaviour (N = 20). We initially used both antipsychotics at the same time as a simple regimen in order to restore the prisoners’ health to enable them to return to their home prisons. A single coercive intervention was performed in 14 out of 20 prisoners which was followed by a second one in two cases according to Article 101 of the German Code of Criminal Procedure. On average, prisoners needed a treatment course of 30.4 days. Within this time PANSS global scores were reduced by approximately 40%. Side effects occurring as a consequence of neuroleptic treatment were negligible and could be dealt with.

Abstract

The objective of this research work is to study the artificial intelligence (AI)-based product benefits and problems of the agritech industry. The research variables were developed from the existing review of literature connecting to AI-based benefits and problems, and 90 samples of primary data from agritech industry managers were gathered using a survey of a well-structured research questionnaire. The statistical package of IBM-SPSS 21 was utilized to analyze the data using the statistical techniques of descriptive and inferential statistical analysis. Results show that better information for faster decision-making has been ranked as the topmost AI benefit. This implies that the executives of agritech units have a concern about the quality of decisions they make and resistance to change from employees and internal culture has been ranked as the topmost AI problem.
