Abstract

Purpose

The theoretical findings serve as a foundation for further research into understanding sulfide-based solid-state electrolytes, ultimately advancing the progress of all-solid-state batteries.

Design/methodology/approach

The electronic properties of Li7P3S11 are thoroughly explored through first-principles calculations.

Findings

This investigation encompasses the intricate atom-dominated valence and conduction bands, spatial charge density distribution and the breakdown of atom and orbital contributions to van Hove singularities. Additionally, the compound’s wide and discrete energy spectra reflect the substantial variations in bond lengths and its highly anisotropic geometric structure. The complex and nonuniform chemical environment indicates the presence of intricate hopping integrals.

Originality/value

This study provides valuable insights into the critical multiorbital hybridizations occurring in the Li-S and P-S chemical bonds. To validate the theoretical predictions, experimental techniques can be employed. By combining theoretical predictions with experimental data, a comprehensive understanding of the geometric and electronic characteristics of Li7P3S11 can be achieved.

Abstract

Purpose

The purpose of this paper is to answer the question of how brand-specific transformational leadership (TFL) and transactional leadership (TRL) enhance employee-based brand equity (EBBE) by influencing employees’ perceived brand value congruence (EPBVC).

Design/methodology/approach

This study employed hierarchical linear modeling and chose moderating variables that are primarily related to the working environment: person–job fit (PJF) and person–group fit (PGF). The sample included managers and employees of the largest domestic bank in Taiwan.

Findings

Questionnaires were distributed to banking staff in the service industry. The results imply that both brand-specific TFL and brand-specific TRL require the mediation of PJF and PGF to influence EBBE, which then influences brand equity. Without these mediators, brand-specific TFL and brand-specific TRL have no effects on EBBE.

Originality/value

Compared to the results from other studies, these results imply a unique discovery that both brand-specific TFL and brand-specific TRL require the mediation of PJF and PGF to influence EPBVC, which in turn influences EBBE. Without these mediators, brand-specific TFL and brand-specific TRL do not have any effects.

Abstract

Purpose

A cross-platform paradigm (computing model), which combines the graphical user interface of MATLAB and parallel Fortran programming, for fluid-film lubrication analysis is proposed. The purpose of this paper is to take the advantages of effective multithreaded computing of OpenMP and MATLAB’s user-friendly interface and real-time display capability.

Design/methodology/approach

A validation of computing performance of MATLAB and Fortran coding for solving two simple sliders by iterative solution methods is conducted. The online display of the particles’ search process is incorporated in the MATLAB coding, and the execution of the air foil bearing optimum design is conducted by using OpenMP multithreaded computing in the background. The optimization analysis is conducted by particle swarm optimization method for an air foil bearing design.

Findings

It is found that the MATLAB programs require prolonged execution times than those by using Fortran computing in iterative methods. The execution time of the air foil bearing optimum design is significantly minimized by using the OpenMP computing. As a result, the cross-platform paradigm can provide a useful graphical user interface. And very little code rewritting of the original numerical models is required, which is usually optimized for either serial or parallel computing.

Research limitations/implications

Iterative methods are commonly applied in fluid-film lubrication analyses. In this study, iterative methods are used as the solution methods, which may not be an effective way to compute in the MATLAB’s setting.

Originality/value

In this study, a cross-platform paradigm consisting of a standalone MATLAB and Fortran codes is proposed. The approach combines the best of the two paradigms and each coding can be modified or maintained independently for different applications.

Abstract

Purpose

The purpose of this paper is twofold: to analyse the diffusion of an innovative policy or service and the factors influencing it through an explorative study of the diffusion of the Bookstart program in Taiwan; and second, to provide an analytical framework for further study of this program.

Design/methodology/approach

The study is both empirical and theoretical. It uses data from existing studies and also agencies involved in Bookstart to explain the diffusion of the program. It then draws on theories of policy diffusion and the initial findings of this study to develop an analytical framework for the further study of the diffusion of the Bookstart program.

Findings

The Bookstart program, which is designed to promote reading habits for children 0 to 3 years old and to strengthen parent‐children relations, was originally initiated in the UK. It was first introduced into Taiwan in Taichung County in 2003. The paper shows how the program spread throughout Taiwan and indicates the role of the key players in the diffusion, including charitable institutions, local politicians and leaders, local authority agencies, and the Ministry of Education. The paper posits an analytical framework identifying factors which may help to promote or facilitate the diffusion. In this respect, the paper draws on the theoretical literature and also initial evidence from the research so far undertaken. This will guide the research in the next stage of the study.

Originality/value

This explorative study provides an example of the nature, process and direction of the diffusion of a policy or service innovation, and suggests the possible factors promoting or facilitating it, as identified in the initial findings of the research and in the relevant theoretical literature.

Abstract

Purpose

This study investigates the influence of market and hierarchy organizational cultures on international project performance and examines the mediating role of relational capital.

Design/methodology/approach

In-depth interviews and a cross-sectional questionnaire survey were conducted to collect primary data within international projects. Hierarchical regression analysis was used to test the hypotheses based on data collected from 62 respondents.

Findings

The results reveal that both market and hierarchy cultures affect international project performance positively. Additionally, communication, cooperation and trust help enhance project performance; however, commitment is not. This study also proves the mediating role of relational capital between organizational culture and project performance.

Research limitations/implications

This study selected only two types of organizational culture represented by Chinese construction enterprises. Future studies can explore the mediating role of relational capital between other varieties of organizational culture and project performance.

Originality/value

Given the high complexity and risks faced by projects abroad, both organizational culture, the internal environmental factor and relational capital being the external resource, are crucial for project success. This study clarifies the relationship between organizational culture, relational capital and project performance overseas. Empirical evidence to enhance international project performance for construction enterprises is provided. This study also makes contributions to international contractors who want to implement projects in developing countries.

Abstract

Purpose

With the high penetration rate of the Internet and the prevalence of social networking sites (SNSs), the negative emotions caused by stressors on SNS have become an important issue worthy of attention. This study explored the relationship between SNS stressors, negative emotions and prosocial behavior, by employing negative emotions as the mediation role and social support as the moderator.

Design/methodology/approach

The samples of this study were Facebook users who have used it constantly in the past six months. An online survey was conducted, from which 547 responses were completed, and 525 were valid, for an effective recovery ratio of 95.98%.

Findings

Employing the structural equation model (SEM), the findings show that five paths were supported with a good fit. Negative emotions (anxiety and loneliness) have a moderating effect.

Originality/value

This study contributes to the literature by factors divided by negative emotions of anxiety and loneliness from SNS stressors’ perspectives. In addition, this study provides additional support the moderating effect of social support of anxiety on prosocial behavior.

Abstract

Purpose

This study aims to solve the problems of low flow rate and low efficiency of micropumps in high-frequency applications. This micropump system was proposed to meet the requirements of 1–5 ml/min for microthrusters or drug delivery devices.

Design/methodology/approach

In this paper, a comprehensive analysis indicator and numerical procedure were disclosed and used to demonstrate the fluid dynamic characteristics and performance of a micropump. Accordingly, the reliability of the two-way coupling calculation was ensured through mutual verification of the real structure and the numerical system.

Findings

The research results indicate that the Polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) microchannel can realize the contraction and expansion mechanism, allowing the fluid to generate different levels of pressure gradient during the working stroke and also enhancing the characteristics of energy consumption and storage of the flow field.

Originality/value

The pressure gradient between the fluid and PDMS microchannel can facilitate the improvement of the fluid backflow in a micropump. Therefore, in terms of performance improvement, the PDMS micropump increased the maximum backflow and optimum efficiency by approximately 50 and 90%, respectively.
