Abstract

Purpose

This study aims to obtain the lowest surface roughness (Ra) and drill bit adhesion values (AV) depending on the change in control factors (cutting speed-Vc, feed rate-f and drill bit-D) during drilling of the Al 5083 H116 alloy. Low roughness values increase the fatigue strength of the final part and affect tribological properties such as lubrication and friction. In the machining of ductile materials, the AV increases the Ra value and negatively affects the tool life.

Design/methodology/approach

Drilling tests were conducted using Taguchi L16 orthogonal array. The experimental measurement findings for Ra and AV were adjusted utilizing the Grey Relational Analysis (GRA), the Response Surface Method (RSM) and Artificial Neural Networks (ANN) to generate prediction values. SEM detected drill-tip adhesions and chip morphology and they were analyzed by EDX.

Findings

Ra and AV increased as the f increased. Vc affects AV; 86.04% f on Ra and 54.71% Vc on AV were the most effective control parameters. After optimizing Ra and AV using GRA, the f is the most effective control factor. Vc: 120 m/min, f: 0.025 mm/rev and D2 were optimal. ANN predicted with Ra 99.6% and AV 99.8% accurately. Mathematical models are obtained with RSM. The increase in f increased AV, which had a negative effect on Ra, whereas the increase in Vc decreased the adhesion tendency. With the D1 drill bit with the highest flute length, a relatively lower Ra was measured, as it facilitates chip evacuation. In addition, the high correlations of the mathematical models obtained indicate that the models can be used safely.

Originality/value

The novelty of this study is to determine the optimum drilling parameters with GRA and ANN for drilling the necessary holes for the assembly of ammunition wing propulsion systems, especially those produced with Al 5083 H116 alloy, with rivets and bolts.

PANK and PUNK are two acronyms for ‘Professional Aunt/Uncle with No Kids’. The former was created in 2007 by Melanie Notkin, a Canadian specialising in marketing, to refer to those women without children who are involved in raising their niece/nephews. They can be ‘by blood’, with whom they share family ties, or ‘by choice’, that is, sons and daughters of friends. A PANK or PUNK can be couples, singles or those who do not want to or cannot have child/children on their own but again who love children and want to spend time with them, so who spare special time to look after them, especially on a vacation time. They share some common characteristics such as helping the niece/nephew financially, influencing them, being well-connected and researchers, being devoted nesters, and enjoying travelling with their nieces and nephews while contributing to their personal developments.

Abstract

Introduction – The banking sector is one of the most important building blocks of the financial system. A failure in the banking sector can cause serious problems in a country’s economy. In order for countries to achieve economic growth and development goals, the banking sector, which affects all sectors significantly, needs to be strong. Countries with a robust and reliable banking system have a high credit rating. As a result of this high credit rating, the interest of foreign capital in the country increases. Thus, the credit volume of banks expands and loans are provided at a more appropriate rate for investments. In this respect, the performance and profitability of banks are important. The CAMELS performance model is a valuation system used to determine the general status of banks. The CAMELS model consists of six components. According to this, C represents capital adequacy; A, asset quality; M, management adequacy; E, earnings; L, liquidity; and S, sensitivity to market risks.

Purpose – The purpose of this study is to demonstrate the effect of the CAMLS variables on the variable E.

Methodology – In the implementation part of the study, the data of 11 banks in the BIST Bank Index between 2004 and 2018 were used. In the analysis part of the study, a panel data analysis method was used.

Findings – The capital adequacy (C), management adequacy (M) and liquidity (L) variables were effective on profitability. This study revealed the importance of the capital, management and liquidity variables, which are internal factors, in increasing the profitability of banks.

Human life has been unfavourably impacted by COVID-19, which has impacted the entire planet. Contrastingly, it is now crucial to discern the significance of health in human life and pay more attention to protecting health. Owing to COVID-19's influence on lifestyle, it is evident that the pandemic contributes to the development of health tourism and that wellness tourism, which was in the pre-pandemic growth trend, is favoured more often. Therefore, it is indisputable that stakeholders in the health and tourism industries view the rising demand for health-focused holidays as a potential. However, on the opposite hand, it is meaningful to broaden the number of products made available within the context of wellness tourism, to pinpoint areas that are conducive to health-related activities, to generate the infrastructure and superstructure required in these areas and to step up marketing initiatives in order to make the most of this opportunity. To address these concerns, it is deemed crucial that the parties involved in the tourism and health sectors coordinate their efforts.

Abstract

Purpose

This study aims to address the limited understanding of the complex correlations among strut size, structural orientation and process parameters in selective laser melting (SLM)-fabricated lattice structures. By investigating the effects of crucial process parameters, strut diameter and angle on the microstructure and mechanical performance of AlSi10Mg struts, the research seeks to enhance the surface morphologies, microstructures and mechanical properties of AM lattice structures, enabling their application in various engineering fields, including medical science and space technologies.

Design/methodology/approach

This comprehensive study investigates SLM-fabricated AlSi10Mg strut structures, examining the effects of process parameters, strut diameter and angle on densification behavior and microstructural characteristics. By analyzing microstructure, geometrical properties, melt pool morphology and mechanical properties using optical microscopy, scanning electron microscope, energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy and microhardness tests, the research addresses existing gaps in knowledge on fine lattice strut elements and their impact on surface morphology and microstructure.

Findings

The study revealed that laser energy, power density and strut inclination angle significantly impact the microstructure, geometrical properties and mechanical performance of SLM-produced AlSi10Mg struts. Findings insight enable the optimization of SLM process parameters to produce lattice structures with enhanced surface morphologies, microstructures and mechanical properties, paving the way for applications in medical science and space technologies.

Originality/value

This study uniquely investigates the effects of processing parameters, strut diameter and inclination angle on SLM-fabricated AlSi10Mg struts, focusing on fine lattice strut elements with diameters as small as 200 µm. Unlike existing literature, it delves into the complex correlations among strut size, structural orientation and process parameters to understand their impact on microstructure, geometrical imperfections and mechanical properties. The study provides novel insights that contribute to the optimization of SLM process parameters, moving beyond the typically recommended guidelines from powder or machine suppliers.
