Abstract
Purpose
Based on the social exchange theory, this study aims to investigate the influence of green supplier development (GSD) on supplier green innovativeness (SGI), the mediating role of buyer–supplier cooperation and the moderating role of preferred customer status (PCS).
Design/methodology/approach
This study uses stratified regression analysis to test the hypothesized relationships with data collected from 385 Chinese high-tech manufacturing enterprises.
Findings
The results of regression analysis show that GSD has a significant positive effect on buyer–supplier cooperation and SGI; buyer–supplier cooperation plays a partially mediating role between GSD and SGI; PCS strengthens the positive relationship between buyer–supplier cooperation and SGI and enhances the mediating role of buyer–supplier cooperation between GSD and SGI.
Practical implications
Supplier participation in green innovation is of great significance to the green development transformation of China’s manufacturing industry. This study reveals the positive impact of GSD on enhancing SGI and provides specific suggestions for manufacturing enterprises to realize efficient supplier management and build mutually beneficial and win-win cooperative relationships.
Originality/value
This study enriches and expands the related research on SGI antecedents and reveals the mediating mechanism and boundary conditions therein, which better makes up for the lack of attention to GSD in the existing research on supplier management and can provide lessons and references for the subsequent related researches targeting the enhancement and utilization of SGI.

Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to establish a combined model for selecting key indexes of complex equipment, and then improve the cost forecasting precision of the model. The problem how to choose the key elements of complex products has always been concerned on many fields, such as cost assessment, investment decision making, etc.
Design/methodology/approach
Using Grey System Theory to establish a cost estimation model of complicated equipment is more reasonable under the few data and poor information. Therefore, this paper constructs cost index’s system of complex equipment, and then quantitative and qualitative analysis methods are utilized to calculate the grey entropy between the characteristic parameter and the behavior parameters. Further, establish the grey relational clustering matrix of the behavior sequences by using the grey relative incidence analysis. Finally, the authors select key indicators according to the grey degree.
Findings
The experiment demonstrates that the cost key parameters of complex equipment can be successfully screened out by the proposed approach, and the cost estimation accuracy of complicated products is improved.
Practical implications
The method proposed in this paper could be utilized to solve some practical problems, particularly the selection of cost critical parameters for complex products with few samples and poor information. Taking the cost key indexes of civil aircraft as an example, the results verified the validity of the GICM model.
Originality/value
In this paper, the authors develop the method of GICM model. Taking the data of civil aircraft as an example, the authors screen the key indicators of complex products successfully, and improve the prediction accuracy of the GM (1, N) model by using the selected parameters, which provides a reference for some firms.

Purpose
This paper aims to explore various tensions related to the diffusion and reception of the New Qing History (NQH) in China, and more specifically, it aims at underlying a recurrent tension within the core of this debate, between a Global and a Nationalist historical narrative.
Design/methodology/approach
The author’s focus is to analyze various texts published in China between 2006 and 2018.
Findings
The author argues that the intensity of the current debate is partly related on the one hand, to the fact that NQH undermines various aspects of China’s Nationalist teleology and territorial claims and, on the other hand, to the basic difficulty of accepting the coexistence of various historical representations that are risking to weaken contemporary’s justifications of its rising schemes.
Originality/value
The text presents an original reading of some important issues raised by the NQH debate.

Purpose
Off-site manufacturing (OSM) is a modern method of construction that brings various environmental sustainability benefits for stakeholders. The increasing take-up of OSM in practice has attracted much research interest in its environmental sustainability. However, a holistic understanding of these previous research studies is still lacking. Therefore, the purpose of this paper is to critically review the existing body of knowledge regarding the environmental sustainability of OSM.
Design/methodology/approach
A qualitative content analysis was adopted to systematically and objectively review 55 related historical studies.
Findings
Three research themes were identified, including environmental sustainability assessment and performance, environmental sustainability strategies and critical environmental sustainability factors. A detailed discussion of the three themes was conducted to depict a whole picture of the current explorations in the research field. Additionally, a research framework was developed to articulate the interrelationship between the research themes and their specific research topics. Scientific research gaps were identified together with the future research directions in terms of sustainability strategies, performance impacting factors, sustainability indicators and drawbacks resulted from OSM application.
Originality/value
The literature review promotes construction stakeholders’ in-depth understanding about the environmental sustainability of OSM, which offers valuable implications for green industry practice. Additionally, it highlights the future research trends, which facilitates further explorations in the research area.

Purpose
This research explores the impact of approach and avoidance drivers on users’ discontinuance usage intention (DUI) in social commerce (s-commerce). It also examines the mediating role of perceived enjoyment and the moderating role of autotelic personality traits.
Design/methodology/approach
Using a purposive sample of 465 s-commerce users in Malaysia, data analysis was conducted using partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM).
Findings
This study demonstrates that informational support is a key approach driver, enhancing perceived enjoyment and reducing perceived deception and DUI. Although perceived deception does not directly affect perceived enjoyment, it significantly predicts DUI. Additionally, the impact of informational support on DUI is mediated by perceived enjoyment and moderated by autotelic personality.
Practical implications
S-commerce stakeholders, including platform developers, sellers and policymakers, can leverage these findings to foster a sustainable s-commerce environment. Implementing the proposed strategies can enhance perceived enjoyment and reduce DUI among current users.
Originality/value
This research advances s-commerce marketing and IS discontinuance studies by extending the approach-avoidance motivations model (AAMM) into s-commerce and incorporating autotelic personality as a moderating factor provides new insights into user DUI in this evolving field.

Purpose
In the vibrant world of social commerce (SC), where information flows freely, interactions thrive and online purchases abound, there is an escalating challenge. Users are uninstalling and disengaging due to approach and avoidance stimuli, a trend mirroring the approach-avoidance motivation model (AAMM). Our study, anchored in AAMM and the stimulus-organism-response (SOR) model, aims to dive into the complex dynamics of these factors that shape users' SC continuance intentions.
Design/methodology/approach
Our findings, drawn from 472 SC users in Malaysia, paint an intriguing research framework via PLS-SEM analysis by testing the proposed hypotheses. A purposive sampling technique was utilized, deliberately selecting respondents based on specific criteria. Subsequently, data were gathered through the distribution of face-to-face questionnaires at selected shopping malls, facilitating a focused and comprehensive exploration of consumer perspectives.
Findings
The empirical results demonstrate the following: (1) Users' determination to stay engaged on SC platforms hinges on approach factors, like emotional support, surveillance gratification and multisensory gratification. (2) Simultaneously, avoidance factors such as technostress and perceived deception exert their negative influence. (3) Flow experience, rooted in flow theory, emerges as the underlying mechanism connecting these duality stimuli, influencing the continuance intention.
Originality/value
In a departure from conventional research, our study pioneers a comprehensive approach and boldly confronts the research gap by introducing a rich tapestry of antecedents, embracing both the appeal of approach factors and the deterrence of avoidance ones, using the AAMM that sheds light on how individuals navigate between embracing opportunities and avoiding pitfalls based on perceived gains and losses. This holistic approach enables us to redefine our understanding of digital engagement dynamics, offering a captivating journey into the realm of user experience and intention that transcends the ordinary.

Abstract
Purpose
Non-fossil fuels are receiving increasing attention within the context of addressing global climate challenges. Based on a review of non-fossil fuel consumption in major countries worldwide from 1985 to 2015, the purpose of this paper is to analyze trends for global non-fossil fuel consumption, share of fuel consumption and inequality.
Design/methodology/approach
The similarities were obtained between the logarithmic mean divisia index and the mean-rate-of-change index decomposition analysis methods, and a method was proposed for complete decomposition of the incremental Gini coefficient.
Findings
Empirical analysis showed that: global non-fossil fuel consumption accounts for a small share of the total energy consumption, but presents an increasing trend; the level of global non-fossil fuel consumption inequality is high but has gradually declined, which is mainly attributed to the concentration effect; inequality in global non-fossil fuel consumption is mainly due to the difference between nuclear power and hydropower consumption, but the contributions of nuclear power and hydropower to per capita non-fossil fuel consumption are declining; and population has the greatest influence on global non-fossil fuel consumption during the sampling period.
Originality/value
The main contribution of this study is its analysis of global non-fossil fuel consumption trends, disparities and driving factors. In addition, a general formula for complete index decomposition is proposed and the incremental Gini coefficient is wholly decomposed.

Purpose
In this digitalization age, smart technologies are on the cusp of changing all business sector including retailing. Today’s consumers desire to shop in a smart store where the physical products on display are connected to the internet world. This study aims to propose a model for investigating Generation Z (Gen-Z) consumers’ expectations towards the smart retail technology (SRT) in the Malaysian context through the application of the stimulus-organism-response framework.
Design/methodology/approach
By using a purposive sampling technique, a self-administered questionnaire was conducted. A total of 220 usable responses were collected from Gen-Z consumers who had experience in using SRT. The data were analysed using partial least square structural equation modelling (PLS-SEM).
Findings
This study underscores the role of perceived usefulness, perceived enjoyment and perceived value on Gen-Z consumers’ attitude and word-of-mouth (WOM). Expectations on usefulness, enjoyment and value provide some ideas on Gen-Z consumers’ value who put a high emphasis on functional value, fun value and value for money when adopting the SRT. On the other hand, the result also demonstrates the mediating role of consumers’ attitude in connecting perceived value and perceived enjoyment on WOM towards SRT.
Practical implications
The findings of this study provide beneficial insights for a retailer who desire to pursue a smart-related acquisition strategy. Retailers are recommended to embrace on the following three key features: innovative solution (high usefulness), reliable benefits (high perceived value) and fun experience (high enjoyment) to provide Gen-Z consumers with compelling experiences. Additionally, retailers are suggested to acknowledge the importance of managing consumers’ attitude in driving positive WOM evaluations.
Originality/value
This paper responds to Ting et al.’s (2018) call in uncovering values and lifestyles of generation in details. In Malaysia, retailers ought to incorporate of the high level of usefulness, value and enjoyment when designing their SRT to constitute the Gen-Z consumers’ expectations. Moreover, similar to Ting’s conclusion, this cohort members are very much into technologies and they tend to embrace SRT in their lifestyles.

Purpose
For the dramatically developed high voltage direct current (HVDC) power transmission, HVDC cables play a vital role in the power transmission across seas and connections with renewable power sources. However, the condition monitoring of HVDC cables is still a challenging research topic. This paper aims to understand the influence of external factors, namely, current, cavity location and material properties, on partial discharge (PD) characteristics in HVDC cable in a numerical way referring to the refined Niemeyer’s model.
Design/methodology/approach
The influences of the three external factors are studied by a proposed numerical model for DC PDs based on the modification of a conventional PD model for AC voltage via a finite element analysis method.
Findings
The external factors can influence the discharge magnitude and discharge repetition rate via affecting the electrical conductivity of the material: DC PD is more frequent and with higher discharge magnitude when the cavity is closer to the conductor or the current through the conductor is higher. Both DC PD repetition rate and average discharge magnitude in long-term aged material are lower than virgin material. The effect of discharge on insulation degradation becomes decreasingly significant.
Research limitations/implications
The current work is based on the numerical modelling of DC PDs. Further experimental validations and comparisons are essential for improving the model.
Practical implications
The studies of the influence factors for PDs under HVDC voltage can benefit the research and practical power transmission on DC PDs, contributing the design and test of DC PDs in HVDC cables, exploring the understandings of the DC PDs’ mechanism.
Originality/value
This paper, to the best of author’s knowledge, first studies the influence factors on DC PDs based on the numerical modelling work.

Purpose
High voltage direct current (HVDC) cable is an important part in the electric power transmission and distribution systems. However, very little research has been carried out on partial discharge under direct current (DC) conditions. Niemeyer’s model has been widely used under alternating current (AC) conditions. This paper aims to intend to modify the Niemeyer’s model considering both electric field and charge dynamics under DC conditions, and therefore proposes a numerical model describing partial discharge characteristics in HVDC cable.
Design/methodology/approach
This paper intends to understand partial discharge characteristics under DC conditions through numerical modelling. Niemeyer’s model that has been widely used under AC conditions has been modified, taking both electric field and charge dynamics under DC conditions into consideration. The effects of loading level or current through the conductor, cavity location and material properties on partial discharges have also been studied.
Findings
Electrical conductivity is important in determining the characteristics of partial discharge under DC conditions and discharges tend to happen in short when the cavity field exceeds the inception level under the parameter values studied in the paper.
Research limitations/implications
Building the numerical model is the purpose of the paper, and there is lack in experiment and the comparison between the simulation results and experiment.
Practical implications
The proposed model provides the numerical model describing partial discharge in HVDC cable and helps understand the partial discharge mechanism under DC voltage.
Originality/value
To the best of the author’s knowledge, this paper is a very early research on the numerical modelling work on partial discharge under DC voltage.
