Abstract
Purpose
This study aims to develop a model that explains the relationship between broad personality traits and specific aspects of smart technology acceptance among visitors to smart destinations. It incorporates privacy and safety risks as moderating factors within the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT) model, thereby advancing research in this area.
Design/methodology/approach
The cross-sectional study collected data from 519 respondents using purposive sampling. The questionnaire was administered across two smart destinations to validate the study’s findings.
Findings
Performance expectancy, effort expectancy and facilitating conditions significantly influence behavioral intentions for smart technology use, emphasizing the importance of user-centric design. While social influence’s impact is modest compared to the practical benefits users gain from the technology. Privacy and safety concerns act as barriers, reducing the influence of these drivers and underscoring the need for their mitigation in technology adoption.
Research limitations/implications
This study enhances smart destination theory and practice by emphasizing the critical role of privacy and data security in the deployment of smart technologies. By addressing both the benefits and challenges of these technologies, it offers valuable insights into improving visitors’ overall experience and satisfaction, contributing to more effective smart tourism strategies.
Originality/value
The originality of this research lies in integrating the UTAUT model with risk theory by incorporating perceived privacy and safety risks as moderating factors in the context of smart destinations. This approach deepens the understanding of smart technology acceptance and offers valuable insights into the complex dynamics of technology adoption in tourism environments.

Purpose
This article aims to provide some key points that e‐retailers should be mindful of when attempting to reach out to Millennial web users in a fast‐evolving web environment.
Design/methodology/approach
The key points were derived from a combination of methods that include review of relevant literature (both past and current), empirical evidence drawn from previous studies and the authors' observation of developments within the web retailing environment.
Findings
Six key points were listed, covering pertinent issues like first impressions, customer trust and stickiness, magnitude of social networks, delivering rich user experiences, customer relationship retention strategies and the importance of usability and aesthetics.
Practical implications
It is pertinent that e‐retailers keep themselves informed of the latest technological progress within the web environment should they aspire to survive and achieve success in online retailing among Millennials. They should adapt to the needs of the Millennial generation instead of the Millennials adjusting themselves to the e‐retailers.
Originality/value
E‐retailers can gain a better understanding on the characteristics of Millennial web users and on engaging the Millennials' attention and commitment towards online retailing web sites.

Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to discuss the issues involved in understanding the buying behavior of Malaysian consumers, particularly in the online shopping context in relation to their lifestyles.
Design/methodology/approach
This paper provides a general review of the literature regarding the influence of lifestyles on consumer intentions to repurchase online.
Findings
The paper provides marketers with insights into how knowledge about lifestyle factors can be integrated into marketing and advertising strategies.
Practical implications
The results of this study will provide some ideas and practical suggestions which can be implemented particularly in online shopping in order to improve its continuance (i.e. customer retention strategies) as effective means of maintaining the subscriber base, market share and overall revenue of online businesses.
Originality/value
This paper delineates the importance of understanding consumer lifestyles and its effect on continuance intention that allows online marketers to predict prospective online shoppers' intention to repurchase more easily.

Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to investigate several concepts of inward and outward internationalization and their impact on export performance in the context of Malaysian manufacturing exporting firms.
Design/methodology/approach
Mail survey was administered to gather data from the Malaysian manufacturing firms that have been identified to have business export trading to the major oil and gas producer countries in the Middle East. A total of 120 respondents were received and further analysis was tabulated.
Findings
Findings revealed that the outward internationalization is positively related to economic and non-economic measures of export performance. It indicates that an outward internationalization related to organizational capability has a major contribution to the export performance of Malaysian manufacturing and exporting firms. On the other hand, top management international orientation as an inward internationalization is negatively and significantly associated with economic measures, but not in the non-economic measures of the export performance.
Research limitations/implications
The cross-sectional nature of this study may have limitations with respect to examining the direction and causality of some of the variables. The findings are limited to Malaysian manufacturing firms exporting to targeted markets. The significant of this study emanates from its expected theoretical implications to knowledge and practical implications to business and public organization. It lends support to the internationalization theory and contributes to a firm’s performance and enhances their export marketing knowledge with useful implications for international and relationship marketing.
Originality/value
The results support the proposition that internationalization of firms from emerging nations are dependent on learning, acquiring and applying the knowledge from other firms particularly from firms originating from advanced developed nations.

The purpose of this paper is to investigate some multiple solutions for carbon nanotubes (CNTs) in a porous channel with changing walls. Moreover, the intention of the study is to examine the physicochemical and rheological properties of titania and CNTs.
Design/methodology/approach
The mathematical modeling is performed for the laws of conservation of mass, momentum and energy profiles. Governing partial differential equations are transformed into ordinary differential equations by applying suitable similarity transformation and then solved numerically with the help of shooting technique.
Findings
The effects of different physical parameters on the rheology of nanofluids are discussed graphically and numerically, in order to make the analysis more interesting. The present study revealed that multiple solutions of nanofluids in a channel with changing walls are obtained only for the case of suction.
Originality/value
Some new branches of the solution for nanofluids in a channel with changing walls are obtained in this research, which has never been reported before. Combined effects of physicochemical and rheology of titania and carbon nanotubes are investigated briefly. The effects of physical parameters on velocity and temperature profile are examined in detail which is more realistic than real-world problem.

Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to investigate different branches of the solution of micropolar fluid in a channel with permeable walls. Moreover, the intention of the study is to examine the effect of different physical parameters on fluid flow.
Design/methodology/approach

Afterwards, the set of nonlinear ordinary differential equations was solved numerically by a shooting method.
Findings
The study reveals that various branches of the solution of the proposed problem exist only in the case of strong suction.
Originality/value
The investigation of new branches of the solution of non-Newtonian micropolar fluid is relatively difficult as far as the single solution is concern. This study explores the new branches of the solution of a micropolar fluid in a channel with suction/injection. Simultaneous effect of suction Reynolds number and vortex viscosity parameter on velocity and micro-rotation profile is examined for different branches of solution in order to make the analysis more interesting.

Purpose
This paper aims to investigate the principles guiding sustainable waste management practices within the framework of Maqasid al-Shari’ah. The purpose is to address the environmental challenges arising from economic expansion, population growth and resource consumption, which often lead to unsustainable waste management practices and hinder economic growth. The focus is on aligning waste management principles with the ethical objectives outlined in Shari’ah.
Design/methodology/approach
Adopting a qualitative content analysis method and an inductive approach to outline the constituent elements that formulate the framework, this study investigates the objectives of Maqasid al-Shari’ah to identify underlying elements crucial for sustainable waste management.
Findings
The study reveals how the principles embedded in Maqasid al-Shari’ah provide a foundation for effective waste management practices. The findings emphasize the importance of integrating these principles into human behavior to ensure that waste management aligns with the Shari’ah viewpoint. The insights shed light on the role of Maqasid al-Shari’ah in managing waste sustainably and contributing to environmental conservation efforts.
Originality/value
This research contributes to the field by offering a unique perspective on waste management practices through the lens of Maqasid al-Shari’ah. The study’s originality lies in its exploration of how Islamic ethical objectives can guide sustainable waste management, providing a framework that goes beyond conventional approaches. The incorporation of a comprehensive literature review enhances the authenticity and novelty of the proposed waste management framework.

This study undertakes a comparative analysis of the regulatory framework for sharia-compliant financial technology (fintech) in Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) nations. The purpose of this study is to identify the strengths and weaknesses of this regulatory framework as well as enhance opportunities and best practices. This study also investigates the potential impact of Islamic fintech on financial inclusion in the GCC nations.
Design/methodology/approach
This study uses a qualitative research methodology, including semi-structured interviews with key stakeholders in the Islamic fintech industry, such as entrepreneurs, investors, regulators and policymakers. This study recruited interview participants from the Islamic fintech industry in GCC countries, including Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Oman, Qatar and Kuwait.
Findings
This study’s main finding is that Islamic fintech has the potential to promote financial inclusion in GCC countries. According to this study’s findings, Islamic fintech provides a more ethical and accessible alternative to traditional banking services, particularly for individuals and businesses that are underserved or excluded from mainstream financial services.
Practical implications
This study has practical implications for policymakers and regulators in GCC countries, providing valuable insights for promoting the growth and development of the Islamic fintech industry while ensuring that the regulatory framework is conducive to its growth. This study contributes to the broader literature on regulatory frameworks for fintech by highlighting the need for regulatory frameworks to adapt to technological advances in the rapidly evolving fintech field.
Originality/value
This study derives originality and value from a comparative analysis of the regulatory framework for Islamic fintech in GCC nations and its prospective impact on financial inclusion.

Abstract
Purpose
This study aims to evaluate the impact of sustainable strategic planning and management (SSPM) on sustainable performance (ecological, social and economic) among micro, small and medium enterprises (MSME) in the culinary sector in Southeast Asia (SEA).
Design/methodology/approach
This study used a quantitative approach surveying 300 halal-certified MSMS culinary businesses in the SEA region. Data were gathered using an online survey platform and analyzed using the partial least squares structural equation modeling technique.
Findings
Green management (GRM), digital transformation management (DTM) and Halal Business Management (HBM) exert a significant influence on SSPM. Furthermore, SSPM positively influences the sampled halal culinary MSMEs’ ecological, social and economic performances in SEA. The study also reveals that GRM, DTM and HBM positively influence Islamic ethics compliance and good governance.
Research limitations/implications
This study sheds light on the often-ignored MSME business in the halal culinary sector in SEA. Examining sustainable and strategic planning synergy strengthens the development of a comprehensive framework for SSPM and could encourage more MSMEs to practice sustainable business operations. Moreover, the research also underlines the urgent need to harmonize halal standards in the SEA region. The approach would intensify multilateral support for economic growth and halal trade between SEA countries and beyond.
Originality/value
This study addresses the research gap in the strategic and sustainable management of halal culinary MSMEs within the developing and vast SEA economic region. This research is among the few, if not the first, that combines the GRM, DTM and HBM influence on SSPM and examines the impact on sustainable, ethical and good governance performances. The insights derived from this study contribute to formulating robust, sustainable policies, fostering avenues for sustainable initiatives and enhancing regional and global cooperation for a sustainable future.

The purpose of this study is to provide a comprehensive exploration of academic research on halal purchasing decisions and consumer behavior by integrating bibliometric and systematic review methodologies.
Design/methodology/approach
This study uses a multi-method approach, combining bibliometric and systematic review methodologies, to comprehensively analyze the domain of halal purchasing decisions and consumer behavior. A data set of 184 articles published between 2007 and 2024 was sourced from the Scopus database. The bibliometric analysis was conducted using Bibliometrix in R, facilitating performance analysis, science mapping and network analysis to explore key authors, affiliations, collaborations and thematic trends. Additionally, the systematic review examined the limitations and future research areas discussed in prior studies, providing the basis for formulating potential research questions to address identified gaps.
Findings
The study identifies significant contributions within the domain of halal purchasing decisions and consumer behavior, emphasizing the critical roles of religiosity, trust and halal certification as dominant themes. Bibliometric analysis reveals key authors, influential publications and collaborative networks, highlighting Malaysia as a central hub for research in this field. Additionally, the analysis underscores the intellectual structure and thematic evolution, identifying underexplored areas such as non-Muslim perspectives, emerging halal industries and geographic diversity. The systematic review complements these insights by addressing recurring methodological and theoretical limitations, offering targeted recommendations for future research.
Originality/value
This research uniquely combines bibliometric and systematic review methodologies to provide a comprehensive review of the halal consumer behavior literature, identifying limitations and gaps in prior studies and proposing actionable areas for future research.
