Case overview/synopsis
Ayush Jain, a first-generation entrepreneur, is facing a challenge with his start-up, TechShlok. TechShlok is an IT solution provider with its headquarters in Jaipur, India. The company is doing very well and is able to achieve many accolades. As the company grows in business and employee strength, it is facing talent acquisition and retention challenges. Ayush is in a fix to solve the talent issue and retain the key talent of the organization.
Complexity academic level
The case can be taught in a Human Resource Management course, including “talent management” and “human resource planning”. The case may be taught at upper undergraduate levels. It can also be taught in courses of entrepreneurship and knowledge-based start-ups.

Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this study is to find the effect of heat treatment on the mechanical proeprties of aluminum. Aluminum exhibits a good response to heat treatment, especially quenching, according to the mechanical property improvement. The presence and orientation of secondary phases (Al-Fe-Mn-Si) are greatly affected by the quenching process.
Design/methodology/approach
The present work deals with the effect of water quenching on the mechanical properties of welded AA 6061 plates which were joined by using metal inert gas (MIG) welding, tungsten inert gas welding and friction stir welding (FSW). Three tests like tensile, bending and hardness were considered. The microstructural variation was analyzed by optical microscopy and elemental mapping through field emission scanning electron microscope.
Findings
A significant enhancement in the tensile strength and hardness was achieved on postquenched specimens. This improvement in mechanical properties is caused by the distribution of fine alloying elements throughout the metal solution rather than precipitation at the grain boundaries. In comparison to the “untreated specimens,” an improvement of 76.7%, 25.32% and 56.81% in the tensile strength of quenched TIGW, MIGW and FSW specimens, respectively, was observed.
Originality/value
The quenching process has increased the strength of the MIG welded joint over the base metal. The MIG welded joint has a larger flexural modulus than the other two welded plates, according to the results of the bending test. Furthermore, a uniform distribution of hardness was observed in postquenched welded specimens. It was found that welded zone was harder than heat-affected zone. Out of all the specimens, the base metal zone has the lowest hardness.

Abstract
Purpose
This study aims to access, analyze and highlight opportunities and problems of the Indian pharmaceutical sector in the broader national health-care industry. The recent changes in the field, at the institutional and corporate levels, have placed India in the spotlight of the global pharmaceutical market, but several threats and weaknesses could limit this expansion.
Design/methodology/approach
Descriptive and inferential analyses have been based on empirical data extracted from authenticated data sources. Subsequently, a narrative strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats analysis was performed based on the results of prior investigations and on qualitative data that were retrieved from a marketing intelligence examination to generate an overall scenario analysis.
Findings
Indian pharmaceutical companies have faced several challenges on various fronts. In the home market, drug prices are controlled by the drug price control order; therefore, there is strong pressure on revenues and subsequently on costs. In the international market, threats derived from pharmaceutical multinational companies are emerging as tough obstacles to overcome.
Practical implications
More focus on patents for innovative drugs is required, instead of concentrating primarily on generic drugs. There is a need for policymakers to work on the sustainability and development of the industry, while the companies must redesign their orientation toward enhancing innovation capabilities. In addition, at the level of corporate strategy, firms should establish collaborations and alliances and expand their industrial marketing vision.
Originality/value
This study provides a global overview of the potential growth and development of the Indian pharmaceutical sector, comparing it with internal trends and external competition. The most relevant contribution of the research relies on the shift to innovative production that Indian companies must adopt (after years of focusing only on generic drugs), and in this vein, appropriate industrial marketing solutions are indispensable.

Purpose
The purpose of this study is to analyze the titanium alloy under heat treated condition. Titanium alloy heat treatment, particularly Ti‐6Al‐4V alloy, has been an important field of study due to its wide variety of uses in the aerospace, automotive, and biomedical sectors. The mechanical characteristics of titanium alloys are heavily influenced by their microstructure. Cold‐rolled Ti‐alloys have strong bending and tensile strength due to extensive β‐phase precipitation on the α matrix. However, various heat treatment (HT) methods can affect the mechanical characteristics. The current study seeks to investigate the effects of various heat treatment procedures on the microstructural and mechanical changes of Ti‐6Al‐4V alloy, in order to achieve an optimal balance of strength, hardness, and ductility for a variety of real-world applications.
Design/methodology/approach
Three plates of Ti‐6Al‐4V alloy were heated above the β‐transus temperature for a certain period and then cooled via furnace, air, and sand. One extra plate was kept in ‘untreated’ condition and given name ‘as received’ plate. The three heat treated plates were evaluated and compared with ‘as received’ plate based on tensile strength, bending strength, hardness, and microstructural changes.
Findings
A considerable change in orientation of α and β was noted through optical microscopy upon heat treatment. The mechanical testing revealed that all the cooling methods adopted in the study have reduced the UTS and increased the YS of the plates. The ductility of the alloy was primarily enhanced by 'air cooling' and 'sand cooling' methods.
Originality/value
Notably, the hardness test findings indicated a significant drop in hardness for the ‘sand‐cooled’ sample. Furthermore, the ‘air cooled’ sample showed the maximum hardness due to the production of acicular α regions.

Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to present the multi-objective optimization of the dynamic response of isotropic and laminated composite folded plates. The dynamic analysis has been carried out using the finite element method based on the first-order shear deformation theory.
Design/methodology/approach
Hamilton’s principle has been employed for the derivation of the governing equations. Natural frequencies are obtained using the eigenvalue extraction method. The optimal combination of the crank angle, lamination scheme and boundary conditions on the natural frequencies of folded plates for their safe and optimal dynamic design has been obtained. The analysis has been carried out using finite element approach based on FSDT to obtain the dynamic equation of single- and double-fold laminated plates. In total, 15 experiments as per Taguchi’s standard L15 orthogonal array have been performed. Further, standard deviation (SD) based TOPSIS method is used to perform multi-response optimization of folded plates in order to rank the combination of the input parameters.
Findings
SD integrated with TOPSIS reveals that Experiment No. 8 (crank angle=90° and anti-symmetric lamination scheme=0°/90°/0°/90°), Experiment No. 14 (crank angle=150° and anti-symmetric lamination scheme=0o/90o/0o/90o), Experiment No. 2 (crank angle=30° and anti-symmetric lamination scheme=0°/90°/0°/90°) and Experiment No. 3 (crank angle=30° and symmetric lamination scheme=0°/90°/0°/90°) occupy rank 1 for one fold, one end clamped, one fold, two ends clamped, two folds, one end clamped and two folds, two ends clamped conditions, respectively, in order to maximize the modal response corresponding to the fundamental mode.
Originality/value
SD-based technique for order of preference by similarity to ideal solution (TOPSIS) method is used to rank the process parameters. The optimum combination of the input parameters on the multi-response optimization of dynamics of the folded plates has also been evaluated using the analysis of mean (ANOM).

This paper aims to implement and extend the You Only Live Once (YOLO) algorithm for detection of objects and activities. The advantage of YOLO is that it only runs a neural network once to detect the objects in an image, which is why it is powerful and fast. Cameras are found at many different crossroads and locations, but video processing of the feed through an object detection algorithm allows determining and tracking what is captured. Video Surveillance has many applications such as Car Tracking and tracking of people related to crime prevention. This paper provides exhaustive comparison between the existing methods and proposed method. Proposed method is found to have highest object detection accuracy.
Design/methodology/approach
The goal of this research is to develop a deep learning framework to automate the task of analyzing video footage through object detection in images. This framework processes video feed or image frames from CCTV, webcam or a DroidCam, which allows the camera in a mobile phone to be used as a webcam for a laptop. The object detection algorithm, with its model trained on a large data set of images, is able to load in each image given as an input, process the image and determine the categories of the matching objects that it finds. As a proof of concept, this research demonstrates the algorithm on images of several different objects. This research implements and extends the YOLO algorithm for detection of objects and activities. The advantage of YOLO is that it only runs a neural network once to detect the objects in an image, which is why it is powerful and fast. Cameras are found at many different crossroads and locations, but video processing of the feed through an object detection algorithm allows determining and tracking what is captured. For video surveillance of traffic cameras, this has many applications, such as car tracking and person tracking for crime prevention. In this research, the implemented algorithm with the proposed methodology is compared against several different prior existing methods in literature. The proposed method was found to have the highest object detection accuracy for object detection and activity recognition, better than other existing methods.
Findings
The results indicate that the proposed deep learning–based model can be implemented in real-time for object detection and activity recognition. The added features of car crash detection, fall detection and social distancing detection can be used to implement a real-time video surveillance system that can help save lives and protect people. Such a real-time video surveillance system could be installed at street and traffic cameras and in CCTV systems. When this system would detect a car crash or a fatal human or pedestrian fall with injury, it can be programmed to send automatic messages to the nearest local police, emergency and fire stations. When this system would detect a social distancing violation, it can be programmed to inform the local authorities or sound an alarm with a warning message to alert the public to maintain their distance and avoid spreading their aerosol particles that may cause the spread of viruses, including the COVID-19 virus.
Originality/value
This paper proposes an improved and augmented version of the YOLOv3 model that has been extended to perform activity recognition, such as car crash detection, human fall detection and social distancing detection. The proposed model is based on a deep learning convolutional neural network model used to detect objects in images. The model is trained using the widely used and publicly available Common Objects in Context data set. The proposed model, being an extension of YOLO, can be implemented for real-time object and activity recognition. The proposed model had higher accuracies for both large-scale and all-scale object detection. This proposed model also exceeded all the other previous methods that were compared in extending and augmenting the object detection to activity recognition. The proposed model resulted in the highest accuracy for car crash detection, fall detection and social distancing detection.

Abstract
Purpose
Utilising the stimulus-organism-response (S-O-R) theoretical framework, this study investigated how destination attachment and overall satisfaction mediate the linkage between memorable tourism experiences and customer-based destination brand equity (CBDBE).
Design/methodology/approach
The authors study presents a model that illustrates how memorable tourism experiences can influence CBDBE by impacting tourists' attachment and overall satisfaction with a destination. The model was tested using empirical data obtained through a survey of 382 Indian domestic tourists. The data were analysed using the SPSS AMOS (Statistical Package for Social Sciences Analysis of a Moment Structures) programme.
Findings
This study validates the accuracy and effectiveness of the suggested conceptual model, demonstrating significant linkage between the variables of the study. Accordingly, it was observed that positive memorable tourism experiences have a notable impact on the development of attachment and satisfaction with the tourist destination forming strong CBDBE.
Practical implications
The study's primary managerial recommendation is that, to achieve sustainable competitive advantage, destination management organisations should give priority to memorable experiences and positive emotions instead than only concentrating on product-centred marketing. Second, destination managers must mould their business models based on the link between memorable tourism experiences, destination attachment, satisfaction and CBDBE.
Originality/value
Perhaps, the authors' research is one of the earliest to explore the relationship between tourists' overall satisfaction, attachment to a destination and memorable experiences and how they impact customer-based brand equity (CBBE) for a specific urban hill station destination.

Abstract
Purpose
This study aims to examine the impact of the structural linkages between memorable tourism experiences, destination attachment, tourists’ satisfaction and customer-based destination brand-equity on tourists’ storytelling intentions.
Design/methodology/approach
The authors proposed a conceptual model that examines how memorable experiences contribute to tourists’ sense of attachment to a destination, which can lead to their willingness to share their trip stories. Using partial least square estimation, the authors analysed the conceptual model through data generated by a survey of 448 Indian domestic tourists.
Findings
Study confirms the validity and usefulness of the conceptualized model, as it shows significant correlations between the key variables. Specifically, the authors found that positive and memorable tourism experiences significantly affect tourists’ attachment and their satisfaction with destinations. As a result, tourists who form a strong customer-based destination brand equity are more likely to develop storytelling intentions.
Originality/value
To the best of the authors’ knowledge, current study is the earliest to explore the association between memorable tourism experiences, tourist satisfaction, attachment, customer-based brand equity and how they impact storytelling intentions of tourists.

Case overview
On 20 May 2016, the Management team at Patanjali Ayurved Limited (PAL), an Indian fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) company, had assembled in their Haridwar office, India, to discuss their future growth plans. The team was in a celebratory mood, as their internal reports suggested the annual revenue forecasts for the year 2016-2017 to be INR 10bn, an increase of 100 per cent as compared to the previous fiscal year 2015-2016 that recorded annual revenues of INR 5bn. PAL incorporated in 2006 and co-founded by Acharya Balkrishna operated in four business segments of foods, personal care, home care and Ayurved products. The products sold under the brand name Patanjali were single-handedly promoted by Swami Ramdev (hereafter referred as Ramdev), a popular Yoga practitioner and preacher amongst the Indian masses, as well as PAL’s co-founder. Ramdev recommended PAL’s products in his yoga sessions on television and yoga shibirs which had led to huge positive “word-of-mouth” publicity for their brand Patanjali. Their fast-paced growth in less than a decade had generated a disruption in the Indian FMCG sector, resulting in a negative impact on the sales of established multinational corporations (MNCs) such as Colgate-Palmolive, Hindustan Unilever Limited (HUL), ITC Limited (ITC), besides the domestic players such as Dabur India Ltd. and Emami Ltd. This had led their FMCG competitors to launch plans to strengthen their product portfolios so as to provide a tough competition to PAL. The management team at PAL, though confident of achieving their annual revenue targets, were apprehensive of this new competition from the big players of the FMCG sector. Were they capable of continuing their success story? Going forward what strategic steps would ensure them a sustainable growth and a market leader position? The mood turned reflective as the team pondered on some of these questions.

Abstract
Purpose
This study acclaims the social entrepreneurship based on cow rearing experiential tourism in Himachal Pradesh. This study aims to illustrate the role of indigenous cows in the Indian society, especially in the Northern Mountain regions by taking Kangra district of Himachal Pradesh as an exemplar. This study highlights the relevance of experiential tourism that elucidates on the basis of cow tourism pertaining to health, mental and spiritual rejuvenation. Lastly, the paper is an attempt to integrate social entrepreneurship and cow tourism highlighting the relevance of experiential economy in empowering the local community.
Design/methodology/approach
The case study elucidates on the whence of Swadeshi Kamdhenu Gaushala (SKG), an initiative of Mr Rishi Dogra and Mr Rajesh Dogra, their immaculate micro-management and its benefits to the local community. It highlights how SKG is uplifting the socio-economic standards of the local villagers and providing a distinctive learning experience of indigenous knowledge to visitors. This study is qualitative in nature that uses narrative analysis of secondary data to recognise the importance of indigenous Indian cows, and case study analysis of interviews of SKG proprietors to understand the micro-management, production of organic products and community engagement in their social entrepreneurship.
Findings
The SKG is not only helping the local community in their livelihood but also creating value and positioning to the place on the tourist map. This study sheds some light on the importance of cow products in sectors such as agriculture, green energy and for human health and nutrition. The study also crystallizes the challenges faced by the cow rearers, at last the paper sorted out the benefits of cow tourism and how it can result in community empowerment and development.
Originality/value
The case study on SKG helps us in understanding the importance of social entrepreneurs in community empowerment and also the intervention of tourism in the sector that can bring new and different vertical to the tourism industry with experiential learning of the tourist, which results in knowledge sharing about the benefits of Indian cows and helps in creating and placing such destinations on tourist maps. This study attempts towards contributing to the existing knowledge, highlighting the benefits of social entrepreneurship and cow tourism for the society in general and local community in particular.
