Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to investigate the extension of Delaunay refinement algorithms to work directly with a curved geometry in arbitrary dimensional spaces, which is also able to refine geometry pieces of different dimensions altogether.
Design/methodology/approach
The extension of Delaunay refinement is based on ideas of the Bowyer‐Watson algorithm and Ruppert algorithm.
Findings
The attempt to extend the fundamental ideas of Delaunay refinement to cope with curved geometries led to an algorithm whose performance in practice, regarding speed and mesh quality, is comparable to classical Delaunay refinement for flat geometries. Unfortunately, there are only theoretical guarantees that the refinement itself works under some conditions. No theoretical mesh quality bounds are provided.
Research limitations/implications
A mesh refinement algorithm that deals with curved geometries is a key feature for adaptive mesh generators, so that points are inserted properly in the curved pieces instead of in linear approximations of them. For instance, it is well known that sharp edges are singular points of finite element formulations. This singularity fulfills in practice as mesh is refined around them. Those corners can be rounded up to avoid singularities. Furthermore, with this kind of tool, for instance, a user could start to mesh a disc from a single triangle representing it. Points would be efficiently inserted in the circle as needed during refinement.
Originality/value
This paper introduces the concept of manifold complex and also an extension of Delaunay refinement algorithm to deal with curved geometries.

Abstract
Purpose
This paper aims to analyze green human resource management's (GHRM’s) relationships with corporate social responsibility (CSR) and customer relationship management in Brazilian companies.
Design/methodology/approach
A sample of 142 companies – from the electro-electronics, mechanical metals, packaging, footwear and plastics industries – was examined using the partial least squares method.
Findings
The results reveal that GHRM practices positively influence CSR practices, which act as a moderating construct to positively influence customer relationship management.
Research limitations/implications
The results cannot be generalized due to the non-probabilistic sampling used; however, the results meet the requirements of the statistical methodology.
Practical implications
These findings contribute to business managers' decision-making, as they demonstrate that organizations must develop a consistent culture focused on social and environmental issues. This also reveals that the human resources field can contribute to developing a socially correct company, with the subsequent possibility of satisfying customers to retain and create customer loyalty.
Social implications
The results show that for a company to be sustainable from an economic, social, and environmental perspective, the involvement of human resource management is fundamental.
Originality/value
This paper contributes to academia by presenting a new theoretical model, tested using a sample of Brazilian companies, which illuminates GHRM as an area still under development.

Abstract
Purpose
This paper aims to study the decision‐making processes of Portuguese tourists traveling to South America and Africa destinations by developing a conceptual framework that focuses on information sources, motivations, perceptions, satisfactions, and behavioral intentions.
Design/methodology/approach
The study applies a structural model that looks to explain the factors behind decision making and the relationships present. The relationships are observed in detail through the application of a categorical principal component analysis.
Findings
The results of the empirical study show that behavioral intentions precede emotional and cognitive satisfaction, which in turn, are explained through perceptions and motivations. Tourists perceive tourism destinations as places of leisure although little information is available on existing facilities and core attractions.
Research limitations/implications
The study has the restriction of being limited to the Portuguese tourists. However, these findings open paths for further investigation, namely extending to other destinations and to tourists with different motivations.
Originality/value
This study contributes to the overall understanding of the decision‐making processes of tourists. Specifically, the decision processes is assess by considering two stages: the pre‐purchase stage and the post‐purchase stage. These two phases were analyzed in order to understand how people decide to travel to a certain destination.

Abstract
Purpose
Digital platforms have enabled the emergence of new business models by transforming the competitive scenario, labour, traditional management activities and strategies of the organisations regarding a number of productive sectors. The objective of this study is to analyse these changes in the educational sector from the view of professors who produce content in digital platforms, such as the massive open online courses (MOOCs).
Design/methodology/approach
In-depth interviews were conducted with 10 Brazilian professors using MOOC. The methodology proposed by Bardin (2011) and the board’s guidelines (2013) were used for content analysis.
Findings
Positive aspects such as autonomy, higher financial gains, geographic coverage, quality of life and cheaper and quicker courses were identified in the present study, whereas negative aspects were disclosure and sales performed by faculty members, problems with technical support, demand for new skills (e.g. digital marketing), new teaching methods and opportunities perceived by the professors.
Research limitations/implications
The results found cannot be generalised to different publics and contexts.
Originality/value
The results contribute to a better understanding of the new business models on digital platforms as they show evidence of how these techniques are contributing to digital transformation of traditional sectors. This model can be used to connect professors who produce content to those who want to learn as well as to enable remote operations in educational institutions. Additionally, managers, CEOs and entrepreneurs of the sector can use MOOC as a reference when formulating their strategies.

Abstract
This study based on qualitative data aims to highlight emerging journalistic practices. It analyzes entrepreneurship in Brazilian journalism in order to determine to what extent this development can be regarded as a form of organizational innovation. Over 30 case studies of Brazilian journalistic startups are examined.
The method adopted in this analysis consists of four complementary stages. In the first stage we identify Brazilian media’s political and economic standing and the impacts of digitization on journalism. Then we assess journalistic startup experiences in Brazil through innovation and entrepreneurialism and map the cases. Finally, the fourth and final stage involves interviews of journalists responsible for such startups.
In the past, startups were associated with oppositional forms of journalism aimed at producing alternative views. We find that these startups represent a hybrid of innovation and conservation in news production. On the one hand, they create the potential for journalism’s independence, a crucial asset for the democratic societies utilizing various forms of news production. On the other hand, they remain tied to political and economic interests springing from the neoliberalism that characterize the global media industry.
This chapter focuses on journalistic startups in Brazil and identifies five relevant characteristics of these entrepreneurial organizations. These innovative forms of news production open up spaces for a plurality of social actors and productive sectors. They also offer alternative approaches to covering many relevant issues in Brazilian society, such as legal and judicial topics.

Abstract
Purpose
This study aimed to (1) analyze whether the perceived organizational support (POS) was a significant predictor of performance and stress and (2) explore the mediating role of engagement in these relations.
Design/methodology/approach
To test the hypotheses, the authors collected data with 200 working adults in a mandatory quarantine due to COVID-19 pandemic crisis.
Findings
The results showed that the POS contributed to increase engagement, and consequently, job performance. These relations also proved to be significant for stress, because when the POS increased, the work engagement also increased, and as a result decreased occupational stress.
Research limitations/implications
This study relied on a cross-sectional design. Therefore, future research should consider a daily design to replicate this study and analyze daily fluctuations. Overall, the authors can conclude that work engagement is an affective process through which POS decreases stress and increases performance.
Originality/value
This study tests the mediating effect of work engagement on the link between POS, stress and performance, and its theoretical and practical implications of these findings are discussed.

Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to assess how technology transfer offices (TTOs) of a public university of the state of São Paulo use patent valuation methods in the process of using developed technology value and transferring technology to industry.
Design/methodology/approach
This study is an exploratory qualitative investigation based on a case study conducted in a public university in the state of São Paulo. The university has a TTO and an internal structure for technology transfer. In-depth interviews were conducted with the TTO manager about patent valuation and the answers given were analysed.
Findings
The results on how TTOs use patent valuation methods in the process of assigning value to technology indicate which factors facilitate and which factors hinder the valuation of patents in technologies developed at universities.
Research limitations/implications
The possible lack of data disclosure due to confidentiality regarding royalties and trading fees makes further comparisons between Brazilian public universities difficult. Therefore, this study recommends that further studies on patent valuation and technology transfer process at private universities, research institutes and public and private companies should be performed.
Practical implications
In the practice, this study contributes to companies and TTOs by increasing their synergies in licensing negotiations, as well as by reducing the gap of information, between the business parties for assignment and transfer of technologies. With regard to theoretical contribution, this study can cite advances in the methods to measure the financial benefits arising from the valuation of technologies embedded in the patents.
Originality/value
Owing to the lack of research on the methods of valuation used by TTOs of Brazilian universities, the present study can be useful in serving as a theoretical source for future research and in supporting future TTO negotiations in the process of transferring technologies to productive industry.

Abstract
Purpose
The paper aims to assess the impact and responses to coronavirus disease 2019 in six European heritage labs (Horizon 2020 Framework Programme) selected for their adaptive heritage re-use practices based on participation, self-organisation and self-management. As they are naturally oriented towards building resilient urban systems, the hypothesis is that the co-production of cultural values and places promoted by these projects could create the conditions for equitable perspectives of resilience in the normality of contemporary urban life.
Design/methodology/approach
The paper draws on data collected through a survey of six European Living Labs between January and May 2021. The survey results are framed by a literature review that defines adaptive reuse in terms of resilience. The five resilience characteristics described by Judith Rodin (awareness, diversification, integration, self-regulation and adaptability) are used to navigate the literature and organise the survey results.
Findings
Combining survey results and insights from the literature, some modes and elements (territorial, social, financial) are presented that contribute to creating the conditions for resilience through adaptive heritage reuse according to community-based approaches. Without claiming to be exhaustive, this evidence should be considered in the design phase of resilience programmes, policies or projects related to cultural heritage.
Originality/value
The concepts of community and resilience are becoming increasingly important in the field of cultural heritage. This paper makes a creative contribution to the ongoing debate by presenting and evaluating the contribution of adaptive reuse practices to resilience building.
