Abstract
Purpose
Hybrid nanofluids have remarkable characteristics for improving the process of heat transfer. The findings suggest hybrid nanofluids are beneficial heat transfer fluids for industrial uses. Therefore, this article aims to investigate the Darcy–Forchheimer flow of Zn-TiO2/H2O hybrid nanofluids through a vertically porous shrinking cylinder.
Design/methodology/approach
The thermal transportation phenomenon of radiated hybrid nanomaterials is studied subject to linear thermal radiation and chemical species with the consequence of non-uniform heat source/sink influence. The controlling flow and energy equations in the form of governing hybrid nanofluids are developed and then converted into ODEs by operating appropriate resemblance variables. Using the impacts of controlling parameters, the behaviors of flow constraints are interpreted graphically.
Findings
The current study’s outcomes reveal that the water-based hybrid nanomaterials show a promising upsurge in heat transfer rate. Similarly, as the mass transfer rate grows, the drag coefficient and energy transfer rate boost, while due to curvature relations, it tends to diminish for drag friction. In an upper branch solution, the flow field is improved by greater porosity parameter values, whereas in a lower branch solution, it deteriorates. Furthermore, the velocity profile depicts the opposite trend for upper and lower branches due to a boost in the mixed convection parameter.
Originality/value
In light of already conducted studies, the relation of internal heat source varying regarding thermal and space in the rheology of hybrid TiO2-Zn/H2O nanofluid possesses intriguing utilization in energy production strategies due to the exhibition of extensive heat energy. The most typical examples of this phenomenon can be observed in nuclear and chemical-reactor power stations, solar power plants for heating and cooling systems, combustion analysis equipment and so on. The current study is devoted to predicting the effect of a varied heat source on the thermal energy characteristics of mixed convective hybrid TiO2-Zn/H2O nanofluid flow through the vertical cylinder.

Abstract
Purpose
The heat transport phenomenon in which energy transfers due to temperature differences is an important topic of interest for scientists in recent times. It is because of its wide range of applications in numerous domains such as electronics, heat dispersion, thermoregulation, cooling mechanism, the managing temperature in automotive mobile engines, climate engineering, magnetoresistance devices, etc. On account of such considerations, the magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) entropy rate for nanomaterial (CoFe2O4/C2H6O2) and hybrid nanomaterial (CoFe2O4+MoS4/C2H6O2) is analyzed. The Darcy–Forchheimer relation is utilized to describe the impact of a porous medium on a stretched sheet. Two nanoparticles molybdenum (MoS4) and cobalt ferrite (CoFe2O4) are combined to make hybrid nanomaterial (CoFe2O4+MoS4/C2H6O2). Heat flux corresponds to the Cattaneo–Christov model executed through heat transfer analysis. The influence of dissipation and heat absorption/generation on energy expression for nanomaterial (CoFe2O4+MoS4/C2H6O2) and hybrid nanomaterial (CoFe2O4+MoS4/C2H6O2) is described.
Design/methodology/approach
Nonlinear partial differential expressions have been exchanged into dimensionless ordinary differential expressions using relevant transformations. Newton’s built-in shooting method is employed to achieve the required results.
Findings
Concepts of fluid flow, energy transport and entropy optimization are discussed. Computational analysis of local skin friction and Nusselt number against sundry parameters for nanomaterial (CoFe2O4/C2H6O2) and hybrid nanomaterial (CoFe2O4+MoS4/C2H6O2) is engrossed. Larger magnetic field parameters decay fluid flow and entropy generation, while an opposite behavior is observed for temperature. Variation in magnetic field variables and volume fractions causes the resistive force to boost up. Intensification in entropy generation can be seen for higher porosity parameters, whereas a reverse trend follows for fluid flow. Heat and local Nusselt numbers rise with an increase in thermal relaxation time parameters.

Abstract
Purpose
This study examines fluid flow within a rectangular porous medium bounded by walls capable of expansion or contraction. It focuses on a non-Newtonian fluid with Casson characteristics, incompressibility, and electrical conductivity, demonstrating temperature-dependent impacts on viscosity.
Design/methodology/approach
The flow is two-dimensional, unsteady, and laminar, influenced by a small electromagnetic force and electrical conductivity. The Hybrid Analytical and Numerical Method (HAN method) resolves the constitutive differential equations.
Findings
The fluid’s velocity is influenced by the Casson parameter, viscosity variation parameter, and resistive force, while the fluid’s temperature is affected by the radiation parameter, Prandtl number, and power-law index. Increasing the Casson parameter from 0.1 to 50 results in a 4.699% increase in maximum fluid velocity and a 0.123% increase in average velocity. Viscosity variation from 0 to 15 decreases average velocity by 1.42%. Wall expansion (a from −4 to 4) increases maximum velocity by 19.07% and average velocity by 1.09%. The average fluid temperature increases by 100.92% with wall expansion and decreases by 51.47% with a Prandtl number change from 0 to 7.
Originality/value
Understanding fluid dynamics in various environments is crucial for engineering and natural systems. This research emphasizes the critical role of wall movements in fluid dynamics and offers valuable insights for designing systems requiring fluid flow and heat transfer. The study presents new findings on heat transfer and fluid flow in a rectangular channel with two parallel, porous walls capable of expansion and contraction, which have not been previously reported.

Abstract
Purpose
Faculty play a unique role in universities performing duties along the three fronts of teaching, research and service. While it might be teaching that contributes most to the bottom line of a small university, it is often research by which faculty merit is judged. This study explores the relationships between role ambiguity, role conflict and commitment (affective, normative and continuance) as mediated by job satisfaction among faculty members.
Design/methodology/approach
A sample of 133 faculty members at a US-accredited university in Lebanon served as the basis for this study. The faculty members completed a survey covering scales on role ambiguity, role conflict, commitment and job satisfaction in addition to demographic variables.
Findings
We find that a decrease in role ambiguity strengthens affective and normative commitment but weakens continuance commitment. Structural equation modeling indicates that job satisfaction partially mediates the relationship between role ambiguity and affective commitment, while not mediating the relationship between role ambiguity and normative and continuance commitments. Similar findings hold for job satisfaction as a mediator in the relationship between role conflict and commitment.
Originality/value
Based on statistical modeling, this work (1) puts forth a revised scale for organizational commitment tailored to academia and (2) provides guidance to higher education institutions in terms of the differential impacts on faculty commitment that stem from reducing role-ambiguity versus role-conflict. Managerial recommendations focus on improving normative and affective commitment through the design of policies to reduce role conflict among faculty.

Abstract
Purpose
This study aims to explore the sources of synergy gains in European mergers and acquisitions (M&A) from 2010 to 2021, focusing on both traditional and emerging synergies. Empirically validate novel types of synergies, including relational, network and nonmarket synergies, alongside operational, financial and market power synergies. Examine the impact of firm characteristics, governance structures and market conditions on the magnitude and success of synergy gains postacquisition.
Design/methodology/approach
The research uses a quantitative approach, analyzing a sample of 342 European M&A transactions from 2010 to 2021. Synergy gains are evaluated through econometric modeling, examining the effects of various firm and transaction characteristics on value creation.
Findings
The study reveals that operational synergies, primarily driven by cost reductions and investment savings, are the most significant contributors to value creation in European M&A. Financial synergies, while present, have a more limited impact. Additionally, relational and network synergies emerge as crucial, enhancing firms’ positions within business networks. However, nonmarket synergies did not yield significant results, highlighting the challenges of quantifying intangible benefits. Firm characteristics such as board diversity and independence are found to positively influence the realization of these synergies.
Practical implications
For practitioners, the findings emphasize the importance of considering both traditional and emerging sources of synergies in M&A evaluations. Decision-makers should focus not only on operational efficiency but also on enhancing relational and network positioning to maximize postacquisition value. The study also highlights the role of strong governance, particularly board diversity and independence, in ensuring successful integration and synergy realization.
Originality/value
This study contributes to the existing literature by empirically validating previously unexplored synergies, particularly relational, network and nonmarket synergies, in the context of European M&A. By integrating network-based perspectives, it expands the scope of traditional synergy analysis and offers a more holistic view of value creation postacquisition. The research also provides practical insights by identifying key governance factors that influence the realization of these synergies, making it a valuable resource for both academics and practitioners.

Purpose
Social value creation (SVC) is the primary emphasis for unifying the various issues in contemporary social entrepreneurship (SE) literature and practice since it highlights the fundamental problem of sustainability in SE business. Accordingly, SVC as an outcome of SE represents the primary drive of social entrepreneurs (SEs). However, SEs encounter multi-dimensional challenges as they work to build their SE businesses and create social value. In the current context of digitally transforming entrepreneurship scenario, this study investigates the role of SE compassion and digital learning orientation (DLO) for SVC ability of SEs.
Design/methodology/approach
The study utilized a quantitative survey approach for primary data collection from social entrepreneurs in Saudi Arabia. A total of 158 valid replies from social entrepreneurs were obtained for the study. Using SmartPLS (3.0), partial least square structural equation modeling was used to analyze the data.
Findings
The results validated a model of SVC in which the SE compassion and DLO positively impact the SVC ability in SEs. However, the impact of DLO in moderating the SE compassion - SVC relationship in SEs was not proven.
Practical implications
The study established the role of SE compassion in explaining the distinctive SVC ability in SEs. Meanwhile, given the expanding necessity for SEs to leverage digital technologies for SE missions, the study provides implications for nurturing positive outcomes in terms of SE compassion and DLO outcomes among SEs. This organized knowledge can help entrepreneurs, educators and policymakers better incorporate these concerns in SE education, and social enterprises and entrepreneurs’ developmental initiatives.
Originality/value
This work is pioneering in that it conceptualizes and tests a theoretical framework that links SE compassion, DLO, and SVC in SEs. Meanwhile, the study is the first to operationalize the DLO in entrepreneurs. The study thus generates fresh insights about SVC in SE amid the digitally transforming entrepreneurship scenario.

Abstract
Purpose
This paper aims to examine the role of corporate governance (CG) in the earnings management (EM) of affiliated companies in family business groups (FBGs) listed on the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX), using principal–principal agency theory.
Design/methodology/approach
The sample of 327 nonfinancial firms of the PSX, consisting of 187 group-affiliated firms and 140 nonaffiliated firms has been used in this study for the period of 2010 to 2019. The study uses different regression models for analysis, with robustness tests of various alternative measures of EM and FBG affiliation. In addition, endogeneity is controlled with the propensity score matching method.
Findings
The findings show that EM is less prevalent in affiliated firms compared to nonaffiliated companies. The results show a negative and significant relationship between FBGs affiliated firms and EM. Moreover, the results also show a positive relationship between EM and the interaction term of the CG index and group affiliation. It refers to the fact that effective governance cannot reduce EM in affiliated companies of FBGs as well as in the nonfinancial companies of the PSX. In addition, the quality of CG is higher in affiliated companies compared to its counterpart in nonaffiliated firms. The findings support the principal–principal agency theory that CG cannot mitigate the expropriating behavior of controlling shareholders against minority shareholders by reducing EM in emerging markets due to the ownership concentration phenomenon.
Research limitations/implications
This research study has implications for small investors, government agencies and regulators. The findings of the study show that CG code should make it mandatory for companies to reveal information about their complex ownership structure and ownership information about affiliated companies and directors. Furthermore, it is suggested to revisit the code of CG in the Pakistani context of principal–principal conflict instead of the agent–principal explanation of agency theory based on Anglo–Saxon countries.
Originality/value
This research study has contributed to the CG and FBG literature in relation to EM in idiosyncratic settings of Pakistan. One of the prime contributions of the paper is the development of a comprehensive CG index. This research study used detailed, manually collected novel data on affiliated firms of FBGs in Pakistan.

Purpose
This study aims to examine how employees’ perception of the ethical conduct of their leaders affects their level of green innovation and environmental performance. Therefore, this study investigated green innovation as a mediator between ethical leadership and environmental performance, specifically within the context of Pakistani restaurants.
Design/methodology/approach
Data was collected from the frontline employees using a convenience sampling method having a sample size of 213 respondents. The hypothesized model was analyzed through structural equation modeling using SmartPLS v3 software.
Findings
This study shows a (i) positive relationship between ethical leadership and environmental performance, (ii) positive association between ethical leadership and green innovation, (iii) positive relationship between green innovation and environmental performance and (iv) green innovation mediates between ethical leadership and environmental performance.
Research limitations/implications
This research suggests that top management of the restaurants needs to focus on exhibiting ethical leadership behavior, thereby fostering green innovation practices that will improve the environmental performance of Pakistani restaurants.
Originality/value
The current study is novel as it investigates the association between ethical leadership, green innovation and environmental performance, specifically within the context of Pakistani restaurants.

Purpose
While servant leadership is widely recognised as a key factor in driving employee performance and various psychological outcomes, there remains a notable gap in understanding how it influences employee embeddedness through fostering harmonious relationships, particularly within energy-centric social enterprises. This study seeks to address this gap by investigating how servant leaders’ behaviours can effectively cultivate harmonious relationships, ultimately leading to increased employee embeddedness within organisations. Additionally, this study introduces a novel aspect by examining how an individual psychological trait, specifically a propensity for risk-taking, may influence the indirect effect of servant leadership on employee embeddedness.
Design/methodology/approach
To test this model, data from 309 respondents was collected through a three-wave survey design. The simple mediation analysis was performed using the PROCESS macro-Model 4, and the moderated mediation analysis was performed using the PROCESS macro-Model 8.
Findings
The findings indicate that harmonious passion serves as a significant mediator between servant leadership and employee embeddedness. Notably, this relationship is amplified among individuals with higher levels of the risk-taking trait.
Originality/value
The study addresses the research gaps in the interplay between individual traits and the psychological effectiveness of servant leadership in inducing harmonious passion, leading to socio-emotional outcomes such as employee embeddedness. Further, by addressing the issues related to employee retention in social enterprises, this research helps social entrepreneurs create a desirable societal impact without experiencing human resource hurdles. By doing so, this investigation significantly contributes to the research community, practitioners and society at large.

Abstract
Purpose
This study aims to identify the factors influencing the adoption of extended reality (XR) applications in libraries for sustainable innovative services and reveal the challenges of adopting XR technology in libraries.
Design/methodology/approach
A systematic literature review was applied to address the study’s objectives. The 26 most relevant seminal studies published in peer-reviewed journals were selected to conduct the study.
Findings
The findings showed that access to digital collections, skill development, marketing, innovation and sustainable development factors influence the adoption of extended reality applications in libraries. The study illustrated that technical challenges, financial challenges, the unavailability of staff expertise and lack of institutional support caused barriers to the adoption of XR in libraries.
Originality/value
The study has added valuable literature to the existing body of knowledge. It has provided a framework to efficiently adopt extended reality in libraries for the delivery of sustainable, innovative services to library patrons.
