Abstract
This chapter examines the ‘embodied turn’ in the study of traditional Chinese sports and identifies issues within this area of research. It introduces new interpretative perspectives and approaches within the framework of bodily sociology to elucidate the link between locally-informed sports practices and the formation of socialized individuals. The chapter categorises the current research into three main themes: self-giving, the creation of bodily value and the construction of national identity through sports. It then integrates these themes with the findings of embodied sociology. The chapter compiles and analyzes the existing literature on traditional Chinese sports culture from both Chinese and international scholars, offering insights into the status, rationale and challenges of bodily sociological research. By contextualising the concept of the embodied turn in traditional Chinese sports culture – through concepts such as self-givenness, self-techniques, the generation of value and the creation of collective memory – the chapter discusses the impact of bodily sociology on cultural research. The chapter advocates for further bodily sociological studies of Chinese sports culture, which could enhance the understanding of Chinese studies among Western scholars and contribute to a genuine embodied turn in this field of study. Providing one of the initial explorations of embodied studies in traditional Chinese sports, the chapter reveals a transition from broad cultural interpretations and symbolic, structuralist sociology to a phenomenological approach in sports cultural studies. It posits that the bodily sociology approach is beneficial for sports studies although current research has not yet fully realized the embodied turn.

Abstract
Purpose
The rapid expansion of artificial intelligence (AI) is progressively reshaping the dynamics of human interaction, communication, lifestyle, education and professional endeavors. The purpose of the study is to comprehend and address the barriers which are impeding the implementation of Generative AI Technologies, such as ChatGPT in the educational landscape.
Design/methodology/approach
The study used the Fuzzy analytic hierarchy process (AHP) model to analyze the responses gathered from 149 academicians belonging to the northern states of India.
Findings
The study established that the three most important criteria that influence the adoption of generative AI in the education sector are Risk of Academic Integrity, Risk of biased outcomes and Erosion of Critical Thinking.
Research limitations/implications
The present study was confined to Fuzzy AHP to extract the critical criteria influencing the decision-making. Various other techniques such as PF-Delphi and PF-CoCoSo can be used further. The results provide significant inputs for future research to understand the effect of adoption of Generative AI in different contexts including both opportunities and the challenges faced by them.
Practical implications
The study will be beneficial to various stakeholders including students, educators, society and policymakers as the study will highlight the importance of AI tools, introduce the various challenges associated with and explain the use of these tools as productivity-enhancing tools.
Originality/value
To the best of the author’s knowledge, the present study is a novice as the use of AI in Academia is unexplored and the major criteria influencing the choices have yet been undiscovered.

Abstract
Purpose
Healthcare workforce shortages, particularly in rural areas, present a global challenge. The purpose of this study is to explore the leadership dynamics within federally qualified health centers (FQHC) in rural Oklahoma, focusing on recruitment, retention, job satisfaction and development practices.
Design/methodology/approach
Eighteen managers with five or more years of tenure from Oklahoma FQHCs were interviewed. Leadership’s role in influencing job satisfaction, recruitment, retention and development practices was analyzed using a multilevel ecological framework through qualitative content analysis with NVivo.
Findings
The analysis includes ten key themes including the critical role of leadership in addressing recruitment and retention challenges, the importance of aligning organizational culture, rural culture, access challenges, trainings and values with workforce development initiatives, and the impact of leadership practices on job satisfaction.
Originality/value
This study uniquely examines leadership strategies in rural FQHCs, integrating ecological considerations for cultural, logistical and community-specific factors. It emphasizes the pivotal role leadership plays in shaping workforce development. As rural healthcare evolves, refining these approaches is crucial for addressing workforce challenges, improving healthcare access and ensuring that rural FQHCs remain sustainable, driving positive outcomes for healthcare professionals and communities.

Abstract
Purpose
This paper aims to explore the value that care from a primary mental health care nurse (PMHCN) can bring to people with mental health (MH) problems in health-care delivery.
Design/methodology/approach
This study used a focus group of 20 PMHCNs working in primary care (PC) health settings in Saudi Arabia before using thematic content analysis to describe and explore their views and experiences of the integration of MH care into PC units. The researchers used a semi-structured interview format, which began with open-ended probes and proceeded to use of theoretical sampling based on emerging data related to their experiences and perceptions in the integration process.
Findings
Four main themes were derived from the thematic analysis of interviews: collaboration, knowledge and experience, awareness and orientation care and influential role.
Research limitations/implications
This study’s use of qualitative research methods has certain limitations, including the small sample size of 20 participants, which means that it may not be representative of all primary MH nurses in primary health-care centers in Saudi Arabia. To make the results applicable to a broader audience, the researcher sought to moderate this limitation by including participants with extensive experience in multiple settings and nurses of different ages.
Practical implications
The cost implications of the PMHCN service are not yet comprehensively understood, but it is apparent that this model is not only regarded extremely positively by MH practitioners but may also have significant benefits in terms of patient outcomes. The configuration of local services and relevant patient demographics will affect the extent to which this study’s findings are transferable. Meanwhile, further research in this area could seek to provide further evidence about the aspects of the PMHCN service model, such as secondary care referrals and waiting times, accident and emergency attendances and patient recovery rates and the impact of providing such a service on health-care practitioners as well as its cost-effectiveness.
Originality/value
This study’s findings suggest that PMHCNs believe that their care improves the quality of PC for patients in PC settings. Elements of the PC placement that professionals particularly valued include their ability to assist patients in their own community and the inclusion of volunteer stakeholders who act as preceptors. The participants expressed a need for improvement of policy related to referrals within the clinics.

Abstract
Purpose
This study aims to estimate farmers’ willingness to pay for crop insurance, utilizing a choice experiment case study in the South Gondar Zone, Ethiopia.
Design/methodology/approach
Primary cross-sectional data were collected in 2023 from 240 farm households. The choice experiment method was employed to elicit farmers’ willingness to pay for crop insurance. Five attributes, including monetary cost, were identified for the choice experiment, with two improved scenarios and a status quo presented to respondents. The mixed logit model and extended mixed logit model were used for analysis.
Findings
The econometric model indicated that, with the exception of one attribute, all were positive and statistically significant. Farmers showed a preference for improved scenarios over the status quo, demonstrating a willingness to pay for crop insurance. The extended mixed logit model revealed that factors such as livestock ownership, household head’s sex, family size, income, farming experience, crop risk exposure, and additional occupations significantly influenced farmers’ preferences for crop insurance.
Research limitations/implications
The study’s sample size was limited to 240 farm households, which is relatively small. More reliable results could be obtained with a larger sample size. Another significant limitation is the study’s failure to account for institutional setups when assessing farmers’ willingness to pay for crop insurance.
Practical implications
Agricultural risk, particularly crop risk, is severe in the study area. The results suggest that farmers have a genuine need for risk mitigation mechanisms, such as crop insurance. The findings reflect farmers’ interest in crop insurance, indicating that responsible entities, whether governmental or private insurance companies, can readily implement crop insurance schemes.
Social implications
The study has significant social implications, as the society in the study area is highly vulnerable to crop risk, which adversely affects their livelihood. Introducing a crop insurance scheme could enhance the welfare and livelihood of the local population.
Originality/value
To the best of our knowledge, this study is novel in both concept and methodology. Unlike previous studies, which focused on specific crop risks, this study considers multiple crop risks. The findings offer valuable insights for policymakers and other stakeholders involved in crop insurance. Understanding farmers’ preferences for crop insurance is crucial for designing effective crop insurance policies.

Abstract
Purpose
In modern societies, consumer well-being is dependent on choices regarding complex services, such as investments, health care, insurance and lending. However, evaluating costs of such services is often difficult for consumers due to a combination of limited cognitive resources and complexity of the service. The purpose of this study is to empirically examine to what extent three specific consequences of complexity influence consumer tendencies to make mistakes when evaluating the costs (or price) of complex services.
Design/methodology/approach
Three studies were conducted (survey: n = 153, experiment: n = 332 and conjoint analysis: n = 225), all focusing on how consumers evaluate costs in the complex mutual fund setting.
Findings
The authors find that consumers struggle with estimating and using cost information in decision-making in the complex services setting. Consumers of complex services frequently underestimate the costs over the long-term, may see costs as a signal of service quality and are susceptible to influence from presentation formats when evaluating costs.
Research limitations/implications
The study investigates mutual funds, which is one example of a complex service. In order to get a full picture of how consumers deal with costs in complex setting, future research needs to expand this focus to other types of complex services.
Practical implications
The results have implications for both marketers of complex services and policymakers. For marketers, this paper highlights that competing with a low-cost strategy may be difficult in the complex services setting as consumers may lack the ability to actually evaluate what they pay over the long term. For policymakers, increased simplification of prices may be an attractive option. However, it is important that this simplification is done in a way that increases the possibility to compare prices.
Originality/value
As complexity influences several aspects of decision-making, an understanding of how consumers evaluate costs in complex settings is dependent on taking a multidimensional research approach. This paper makes a novel contribution to the literature on pricing by showing that consumers struggle with multiple aspects when evaluating costs in complex contexts. Understanding these effects is important to policy, as well as to research on the cognitive value of simplicity that is currently gaining traction in marketing research.

Abstract
Purpose
This study aims to provide a review for scour in complex rivers and streams with coarser bed material, steep longitudinal bed slopes and dynamic environments, in the interest of the safety and the economy of hydraulic structures. The knowledge of scour in such geographical complexities is very crucial for a comprehensive understanding of scour failures and for establishing definitive criteria to bridge this major research gap.
Design/methodology/approach
The existing available literature shows significant work done in case of silt, sand and small sized coarser bed material but any substantial work for bed material of gravel size or above is lacking, resulting in a wide gap. Though some researchers have attempted to explore possibilities of refining the existing models by adding pier size, shape, sediment non-uniformity and armouring effects, which otherwise have been given a miss by the various researchers, including the pioneer in the field Lacey–Inglis (1930). But still, a rational model for scour estimation in such complex conditions for global use is yet to come. This is because all the parameters governing the scour have not been studied properly till date as is evident from the globally available literature and is witnessed in the field too, in recurrent failure of hydraulic structures especially bridges.
Findings
The researchers presume that the finer materials move only as a result of erosion. However, in actual field conditions, it has been observed that the large-sized stones also roll down and cause huge erosion along the river bed and damage the hydraulic structures, especially in the steep river/stream beds along hilly slopes. This fact has been overlooked in the models available globally and has been highlighted only in the current work in an attempt to recognize this major research gap. A study carried out on a number of streams globally and in Jammu and Kashmir, India also, has shown that in steep river and stream beds with bed material consisting of gravel size or greater than gravel, large scour holes ranging from 1 m to 5 m were created by furious floods, and due to other unknown forces along the channel path and near foundations of hydraulic structures.

Abstract
Purpose
The academic–practitioner gap has been a widely discussed and well-established issue. Despite numerous studies conducted in this area, empirical evidence reveals that the gap is widening and also emphasizes the exigency to bridge this gap. Hence, the purpose of this study is to propose an acceptable solution that will fill this lacuna.
Design/methodology/approach
The study adopts the qualitative research methodology and was based on the system theory (ST) and the institutional theory (IT). Interviews, based on a semi-structured questionnaire, were conducted, focusing on three categories, namely individuals with solely academic experience, individuals with both academic and industrial exposure and business leaders. The unit of analysis was the individual.
Findings
The study, which unearthed some rich and challenging evidence from the respondents, reveals that gaining industrial exposure and working on continuous professional development are vital for academics to narrow or even close this gap. In addition, serving as apex members at board level or in professional bodies, serving global organizations as lead consultants and working on research collaborations are other important dimensions for academics.
Practical implications
This study introduces an emerging model named the “Pentagon Model” and develops a corporate index (C-index) for academics to earn, similar to the h-index. The study also explains the operationalization of the C-index based on the proposed algorithm. Hence, it is the envisaged that this study will change the landscape of the academic sphere in practical terms.
Originality/value
This study was carried out with the sole intention of bridging the gap between academics and practitioners. The proposed model and the index, which were developed by the author purely based on the outcome of this study, pave the way for many future research studies, not only to further improve the C-index but also to minimize disparities in transdisciplinary work between academics and practitioners.

This chapter is made as a case study with detailed mentions of factors for tourism promotion for metaverse, sustainability, and crisis management. This chapter has tried to explain the role of the metaverse in tourism marketing and the cognitive level of influence the metaverse possesses among tourists which makes them prefer repeated visits. Also, the chapter tried to assess the existing conditions in the tourism industry which positively or negatively impact the health sector due to the role of metaverse. From a world society perspective, common national educational developments are driven by global cultural models that dominated an international liberal order. These models emphasized the centrality of education as an institution, both as a source of human capital and as an inherent human right. Epistemic communities and international organizations circulated these models influencing national educational policies and reforms. However, in recent decades the international liberal order has been challenged with social movements across the political spectrum questioning the value and authority of education in this order. Earlier educational mandates to be more inclusive are attacked with the rights of women, immigrants, and minorities often targeted. Confidence in knowledge grounded in education and science also gets undercut. In a more fragmented world society, educational contestations increase, reflecting surges in nationalist, populist, and traditional illiberal ideas. We reflect on the impact of these challenges on the centrality of education and propose future research directions to ascertain which educational developments are likely to continue to be globally valued and which are more apt to erode.
