Abstract
Purpose
This paper aims to explore the trends in academic research on elder abuse from 1990 to 2023 using bibliometric analysis. It seeks to identify research trends, hotspots and gaps and proposes future research directions.
Design/methodology/approach
Using bibliometric analysis method, this study analyzes 2,404 documents related to elder abuse from the Scopus database. Visual analysis is conducted using VOSviewer software to reveal research trends, thematic clusters and their interrelationships.
Findings
The study shows a rising concern for elder abuse, especially in nursing homes, domestic settings and among dementia patients. However, research on prevention and intervention measures is lacking, despite increasing international collaboration. Yet, deeper exploration of cross-cultural and regional differences remains limited.
Practical implications
This study reveals that improving care conditions for nursing home residents and dementia patients requires increased funding, professional training for caregivers, the strengthening of regulations and the establishment of clear guidelines for reporting abuse. Additionally, promoting international cooperation, sharing best practices, raising public awareness and supporting ongoing research are essential measures to ensure the safety and dignity of older adults.
Originality/value
To the best of the authors’ knowledge, this study represents the first systematic review of elder abuse research using bibliometric analysis, providing researchers and policymakers with a comprehensive knowledge framework of the field’s development trends and research hotspots.

Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this study is to systematically analyze the wear of cylindrical needle bearings in rotary vector reducers under temperature rise and identify the influencing factors.
Design/methodology/approach
Based on the dynamic characteristics of the RV-20E reducer, the time-varying contact force of the cylindrical needle bearing and the entrainment speed of the inner and outer raceways were calculated. A mixed elastohydrodynamic lubrication model of the needle bearing, considering friction and temperature rise, was established using a dynamic rough tooth surface model. The model solved for the oil film thickness, contact stress and wear conditions of the bearing raceway contact area. The effects of the number of rolling needles, the diameter of rolling needles and surface strength on the wear characteristics were analyzed.
Findings
The results of this study show that the oil film thickness, oil film pressure and surface scratches of cylindrical needle bearings exhibit an uneven, patchy distribution under the combined effects of friction and temperature rise. When the radius of the rolling needle is less than 1.44 mm, inner ring wear is less than outer ring wear. Conversely, when the radius exceeds 1.44 mm, inner ring wear is greater. The optimal rolling needle radius is 1.6 mm. Increasing the number of rolling needles and enhancing the yield strength of the contact surface significantly extend bearing life.
Originality/value
This study provides valuable recommendations for optimizing bearing structural parameters and material characteristics in the design of rotary vector reducers.

Abstract
Purpose
Topologically ordered functionally graded composite (TOFGC) biodegradable materials are needed in the field of metallic degradable implants, as they degrade over a period of time avoiding the necessity of another surgery for implant removal. Also, their rate of degradation can be tailored to match the requirement of the patient. These biomaterials also have the functionality to assist bone growth and eliminate stress shielding in orthopaedic implants.
Design/methodology/approach
In this study, TOFGC biomaterials were developed for the first time using additive manufacturing, pressureless microwave sintering and casting methods, and their cytocompatibility, hemocompatibility and in vitro degradation evaluations were done. Also, pure dense iron and iron scaffolds were included in the study, for the comparison of results with the iron-hydroxyapatite-zinc functionally graded composite biomaterial.
Findings
The maximum weight loss and corrosion rate were found to be 6.98% and 2.38 mmpy, respectively, in the immersion test and electrochemical test for Fe-3.5HAp-54Zn biomaterial. Zinc-infiltrated composite biomaterials exhibited excellent cytocompatibility and hemocompatibility as compared to pure dense iron and iron scaffolds. A comparative analysis was conducted, taking into account relevant literature, and it was determined that the fabricated iron-hydroxyapatite-zinc biomaterial demonstrated desirable degradation and biological characteristics, customized to meet the specific requirements of bone tissue engineering applications.
Originality/value
TOFGC iron-hydroxyapatite-zinc biomaterial has been fabricated for the first time using the developed novel methodology and their degradation and biological characterizations were performed.

Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to investigate the fault estimation issue of nonlinear dynamical systems via distributed sensor networks. Furthermore, based on the communication topology of sensor networks, the nonfragile design strategy considering the gain fluctuation is also adopted for distributed fault estimators.
Design/methodology/approach
By means of intensive dynamical model transformation, sufficient conditions with disturbance attenuation performance are established to design desired fault estimator gains with the help of convex optimization.
Findings
A novel distributed fault estimation framework for a class of nonlinear dynamical systems is established over a set of distributed sensor networks, where sampled data of sensor nodes via local information exchanges can be used for more efficiency.
Originality/value
The proposed distributed fault estimator gain fluctuations are taken into account for the nonfragile strategy, such that the distributed fault estimators are more applicable for practical sensor networks implementations. In addition, an illustrative example with simulation results are provided to validate the effectiveness and applicableness of the developed distributed fault estimation technique.

Abstract
Purpose
A model that extends study parameters to predict repaired column behaviour is efficient. Three-dimensional nonlinear finite element models were created in ABAQUS to simulate steel strap confinement with inclusion of pre-damaged levels.
Design/methodology/approach
Experimental and analytical studies demonstrate that restored reinforced concrete (RC) columns usually crush at mid-height under axial compressions. Numerical models verified RC column load-deformation. Although some specimens have considerable column stiffness differences, a numerical model based on statistical analysis matches experimental test results.
Findings
It shows that, finite element model exhibited a tendency to overestimate the stiffness of the columns, with an average absolute error (AAE) of 23.1%. The validation results indicate that the AAE values for strength and ductility were 15.1% and 12.3%. It has been demonstrated that the combination of strength and ductility is capable of yielding predictions with an error rate of approximately 20%. A parametric study focused on finite element model-predicted load bearing capacity reduction.
Originality/value
A numerical analysis employing finite element modelling has been formulated to investigate the behaviour of confined columns. The model underwent validation through comparison with the experimental results. The validated model is utilised to perform additional parametric investigations on the confined column.

Purpose
This paper aims to explore recent advances in drift compensation algorithms for Electronic Nose (E-nose) technology and addresses sensor drift challenges through offline, online and neural network-based strategies. It offers a comprehensive review and covers causes of drift, compensation methods and future directions. This synthesis provides insights for enhancing the reliability and effectiveness of E-nose systems in drift issues.
Design/methodology/approach
The article adopts a comprehensive approach and systematically explores the causes of sensor drift in E-nose systems and proposes various compensation strategies. It covers both offline and online compensation methods, as well as neural network-based approaches, and provides a holistic view of the available techniques.
Findings
The article provides a comprehensive overview of drift compensation algorithms for E-nose technology and consolidates recent research insights. It addresses challenges like sensor calibration and algorithm complexity, while discussing future directions. Readers gain an understanding of the current state-of-the-art and emerging trends in electronic olfaction.

This article presents a comprehensive review of the latest advancements in drift compensation algorithms for electronic nose technology and covers the causes of drift, offline drift compensation algorithms, online drift compensation algorithms and neural network drift compensation algorithms. Abstract
Purpose
This study aims to investigate the influence of chief executive officer (CEO) trustworthiness on firm investment efficiency and explores how this relationship varies in different contexts, including product market competition (PMC), institutional investors, media coverage, analyst monitoring and ownership structure.
Design/methodology/approach
The authors examined a sample of A-Share non-financial firms listed on the Shanghai and Shenzhen Stock Exchanges from 2005–2018 by using panel date regression techniques. The robustness of the findings is affirmed through alternative measures of investment efficiency and various econometric techniques. Further, various endogeneity tests are conducted to confirm that the findings are not affected by potential bias.
Findings
The authors find a significant positive effect of CEO trustworthiness on firms’ investment efficiency and exhibit that CEO trustworthiness mitigates the issue of underinvestment rather than overinvestment. Further, PMC strengthens the association between CEO trustworthiness and investment efficiency. The influence is more pronounced when institutional investors, media and analyst monitoring are low and in non state-owned firms. Likewise, financial reporting quality is found to be an underlying mechanism for the positive association between CEO trustworthiness and investment efficiency.
Research limitations/implications
The reliance on a location-specific index of CEO trustworthiness may obscure its true nature, and caution is warranted when generalizing these results to other regions.
Practical implications
This study suggests that elevating a trustworthy CEO to the firm upper echelon can improve investment efficiency. Policymakers and investors should recognize and leverage the effect of CEO trustworthiness in firms, especially those with weaker governance structures.
Originality/value
This study enriches the literature about investment efficiency by introducing a novel determinant, CEO trustworthiness and establishes that it acts as an informal social institution that improves firms’ resource utilization in emerging economies with weak governing structures.

Purpose
Instrumental and emotional information influence paradoxically on people’s decision-making, and similar influences are more evident in e-commerce scenarios where physical information is limited. This study aims to construct a systematic explanatory framework for the influence of multidimensional recommendation information diversity (RID) on users' click and purchase decisions based on the social support theory (SST).
Design/methodology/approach
This study analyses 453,176 data from 67,079 users of a Chinese e-commerce platform, applying lasso algorithmic techniques and cross-fit partialling-out (XPO) regression for empirical analysis.
Findings
The study finds that instrumental support information diversity (ISID) and emotional support information diversity (ESID) play divergent roles, and that the effects of both on user decision-making are inconsistent with mode-flip and marginal change. Differences in users' information craving and information overload processing mechanisms for instrumental and emotional information, leading to an inverted U-shaped effect of ISID on consumption decisions, while ESID has a U-shaped effect. Additionally, supplier certification eliminates the marginal change in ESID, and products with a high information standardisation degree eliminate the marginal change in ISID.
Originality/value
Research results reveal the opposing roles of the two types of RID and the application boundaries of their roles, providing empirical evidence for academic research.
