Abstract
Purpose
This paper aims to present a study on stability analysis of Jeffrey fluids in the presence of emergent chemical gradients within microbial systems of anisotropic porous media.
Design/methodology/approach
This study uses an effective method that combines non-dimensionalization, normal mode analysis and linear stability analysis to examine the stability of Jeffrey fluids in the presence of emergent chemical gradients inside microbial systems in anisotropic porous media. The study focuses on determining critical values and understanding how temperature gradients, concentration gradients and chemical reactions influence the onset of bioconvection patterns. Mathematical transformations and analytical approaches are used to investigate the system’s complicated dynamics and the interaction of numerous characteristics that influence stability.
Findings
The analysis is performed using the Jeffrey-Darcy type and Boussinesq estimation. The process involves using non-dimensionalization, using the normal mode approach and conducting linear stability analysis to convert the field equations into ordinary differential equations. Originality/value
The study’s novelty originated from its investigation of a novel and complicated system incorporating Jeffrey fluids, emergent chemical gradients and anisotropic porous media, as well as the use of mathematical and analytical approaches to explore the system’s stability and dynamics.

Abstract
Purpose
The complex behavior of viscoelastic fluids and its flow analysis under the impact of transverse magnetic field are becoming increasingly important in numerous emerging applications including biomedical engineering, aerospace engineering, geophysics and industrial applications. Additionally, the thermal analysis and fluid flow driven by propagating membranes will aid significant applications for microscale transport in bio-thermal systems. This study aims to investigate the thermal effects of viscoelastic fluids driven by membrane-induced propagation and transverse magnetic field.
Design/methodology/approach
The propagation of the membranes will work as pump which pushes the fluids from bottom to top against the gravitation force; however, there is backflow due to compression and expansion phases of membrane propagation. The Jeffrey fluid model is employed to analyze the viscoelastic fluid flow, with entropy generation examined and equations solved analytically under low Reynolds number and long-wavelength assumptions.
Findings
The findings reveal that an increase in magnetic field strength impedes fluid flow, while higher values of the Grashof number, heat source parameter and Jeffrey fluid parameter enhance fluid motion. The study’s findings have significant implications for optimizing magnetohydrodynamic systems in various emerging applications, including biomedical engineering, aerospace, geophysics and industrial processes.
Originality/value
This study aims to investigate the impact of a transverse magnetic field on the flow and heat transfer characteristics of viscoelastic fluids driven by membrane propagation.

Abstract
Purpose
Surface properties (smooth or roughness) play a critical role in controlling the wettability, surface area and other physical and chemical properties like fluid flow behaviour over the rough and smooth surfaces. It is reported that rough surfaces are offering more significant insights as compared to smooth surfaces. The purpose of this study is to examine the effects of surface roughness in the diverging channel on physiological fluid flows.
Design/methodology/approach
A mathematical formulation based on the conservation of mass and momentum equations is developed to derive exact solutions for the physical quantities under the assumption of low Reynolds numbers and long wavelengths, which are appropriate for biological transport scenarios.
Findings
The results reveal that an increase in surface roughness reduces axial velocity and volumetric flow rate while increasing pressure distribution and turbulence in skin friction.
Research limitations/implications
These findings offer valuable insights for biological flow analysis, highlighting the effects of surface roughness, non-uniformity of the channel and magnetic fields.
Practical implications
These findings are very much applicable for designing the pumping devices for transportation of the fluids in non-uniform channels.
Originality/value
This study examines the impact of surface roughness on the peristaltic pumping of viscoelastic (Jeffrey) fluids in diverging channels with transverse magnetic fields.

Purpose
When facing capacity bottlenecks, manufacturers of configurable, multi-variant products may adjust the product mix to uphold the scheduled output. However, maintaining market attractiveness by choosing the right product configurations as substitutes is a non-trivial task as it involves anticipating the substitution behaviour of customers. Substitution behaviour models currently used in quantitative production planning models for configurable products are either based on domain knowledge of experts, which makes them bias-prone, or they require extensive market research. The purpose of this study is to present a data-driven approach.
Design/methodology/approach
Based on data science concepts, distance measures are applied to derive distances between different product configurations from historical order data. Different design options for such a distance measure are discussed regarding configurable products and tested with automotive industry data. Furthermore, the study shows ways to validate the distance results.
Findings
The experiments show that the presented distance measure represents the expected customer substitution behaviour quite well. A context-sensitive distance measure including rank information of ordinal product features is most suitable for the automotive data sets.
Originality/value
This study presents a new approach to model the substitution behaviour of customers. The attractiveness of a potential substitute is represented by a distance from the customer’s first-choice configuration. The presented distance measure provides an inexpensive tool using existing data instead of expensive market research. Thus, it supports the integration of substitution into quantitative production planning models that deal with a large variety of configurable products.

Abstract
Purpose
This study aims to investigate the factors influencing service employee work and personal well-being affecting their intention to leave the organization. This research explored the effects of service climate, resilience and workplace well-being (WWB) on service employee perceptions of subjective well-being and turnover intention. PERMA framework of individual flourishing and well-being (Seligman, 2011) was used to measure employee WWB and reflected their positive emotions, engagement, relationships, meaning and accomplishment.
Design/methodology/approach
Service employees (n = 250) completed an online self-administered survey. partial least squares structural equation (PLS-SEM) modeling and multi-group analysis (PLS-MGA) were utilized to test how gender differences influenced personal and organizational factors, and their impacts on PERMA dimensions and outcomes.
Findings
Results revealed a significant effect of service climate and resilience on PERMA. Only service employee work-meaning positively influenced SWB and negatively turnover intention. Examining each dimension of employee engagement showed similar impacts of service climate and resilience for both men and women, while absorption increased turnover intention for men.
Originality/value
To the best of the authors’ knowledge, this study is one of the first to test the PERMA framework as service employee WWB. The study advances the employee well-being line of research by exploring the impacts of service climate and resilience on PERMA dimensions. The PERMA framework was extended to examine three sub-dimensions of employee engagement as unique PERMA dimensions. This study advances the limited knowledge of how work and personal factors affect service employees’ work and subjective well-being from a gender perspective.

Abstract
Purpose
Since the COVID-19 pandemic had a significant impact on all facets of civilisation around the world, including food safety, this study aimed to determine and compare the pre-COVID and post-COVID food safety knowledge of Bangladeshi consumers and their association with sociodemographic variables.
Design/methodology/approach
The current study performed a cross-sectional survey of 503 consumers who prepared food at least 2–4 times per week through a validated questionnaire, selected through convenience sampling from two metropolitan cities and two rural districts in Bangladesh. The non-parametric Wilcoxon signed-rank test, Mann–Whitney U tests, Kruskal–Wallis H and binary logistic regression were used for statistical analysis.
Findings
Although an increased percentage of consumers showed a better level of overall food safety knowledge in the post-pandemic (38.2%) than the pre-pandemic (28.8%), there is a low level of awareness of the appropriate duration of handwashing, foodborne pathogens, consuming raw milk or eggs, safe storage and temperature control of food. University graduates, families with few children and urban consumers had a good understanding of food safety both pre- and post-pandemic.
Originality/value
This study compares consumers’ pre- and post-COVID-19 food safety knowledge previously unknown in Bangladesh. The findings have significantly contributed to existing food safety knowledge in Bangladesh to adopt policies and structure training programmes for consumers in the country.

Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this study is to propose and test a theoretical model investigating factors that influence travelers’ intention to use travel-related information shared by other travelers through a novel category of travel-focused mobile applications, referred to as travel-tracking mobile applications (TTMAs).
Design/methodology/approach
Data collected from mobile app users who traveled for leisure purposes were used to test an extended version of the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology 2, adding trust and privacy concerns as new constructs to the existing framework.
Findings
The current study found empirical and significant evidence that performance expectancy, effort expectancy, hedonic motivation and trust positively; and system privacy negatively influenced travelers’ intention to adopt TTMA to follow other travelers’ experiences.
Research limitations/implications
Limitations and directions for future research are widely explored in the final section of this study.
Practical implications
Practical implications for tourism, travel and hospitality technology companies, TTMA developers and entrepreneurs of travel-related and/or location-based mobile applications are discussed following the empirical findings of this study.
Originality/value
The current study findings add to the body of knowledge in the field of travel technology acceptance, and provide practical implications, especially for entrepreneurs and tourism technology vendors.

Purpose
This paper aims to examine the self-efficacy beliefs of first-year accounting students and investigate the sources of self-efficacy beliefs for both female and male students. The goal is to provide insights to help lecturers support the academic success of accounting students.
Design/methodology/approach
The study involves analysing data from 184 accounting students who reported on four sources of self-efficacy beliefs: enactive mastery experience, verbal persuasion, vicarious experience and physiological and affective states.
Findings
The study reveals that male students are primarily influenced by prior experience and physiological and affective states, while female students are mostly influenced by prior experience and verbal persuasion.
Practical implications
Educators can use these findings to design more effective interventions and support systems that enhance students’ self-efficacy and, consequently, their academic performance and overall learning outcomes.
Originality/value
This paper contributes to the development of theory in the underexplored area of self-efficacy beliefs among accounting students. It provides insights on the differences in sources of self-efficacy beliefs between genders and provides valuable evidence for educators to support student success in learning accounting.

Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this study is to review the literature on the adoption determinants of mobile health (M-health) applications for health behavior change following a systematic methodology.
Design/methodology/approach
This review systematically identified 134 peer-reviewed studies out of 10,687 from Scopus, Web of Science, PubMed and the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) published between 2010 and 2021. This review used a thematic analysis to produce the main themes conceptualizing a holistic framework of the investigated M-health application adoption factors.
Findings
Despite the exploration of multifaceted adoption determinants and behaviors, the current publications exhibit limitations. The studies not only show a lack of representation of multiple health behaviors and medical conditions but also fail to involve data from low- and middle-developing countries, where M-health application utilization is crucial. Findings revealed that there is a considerable absence of a solid theoretical foundation that unveils a gap in interpreting the adoption factors effectively. Understanding cultural and demographic variances and exploring financial factors and healthcare provider involvement is essential for tailoring M-health application interventions. Continuous assessment of technological factors and evaluation of the actual impact of M-health application usage on behavioral changes and health outcomes will further enhance the effectiveness and adoption of these technologies.
Originality/value
This review is one of the first comprehensive reviews of determinants of M-health application adoption targeting health behavior change for the general public and patients.
