Abstract
Purpose
The Industrial Revolution 4.0 impacted education, notably during the COVID-19 outbreak. Teachers should be familiar with the dynamic teaching and learning of classroom and virtual classes. They should provide various and exciting media. It influences the work readiness of a teacher for higher education students. Further, nowadays, interest in becoming a teacher is declining. They prefer having another profession to being a teacher. This study analyzes the determinants of work readiness as a teacher for higher education students.
Design/methodology/approach
This research uses a quantitative research model: a survey method with an influence analysis approach through structural equation modeling analysis to determine the influence of digital literacy, self-efficacy and perceptions of the teaching profession on readiness to become a teacher. The population in this study was the UNNES Economics Education students’ class of the year 2018, totaling 350 students with a total sample of 187. The data collection technique used in this research is a questionnaire with score criteria based on a Likert scale.
Findings
Digital literacy and teacher professional perception play an essential role in work readiness for higher education students as a teacher. Meanwhile, self-efficacy has a positive but insignificant influence on work readiness as a teacher. One of the things that make self-efficacy have a less significant impact is the need for vicarious experience indicators in shaping student self-efficacy.
Practical implications
Teaching is a noble profession. Research on work readiness as a teacher is still limited. Nowadays, only a few students are interested in being a teacher because they need more enthusiasm. The findings of this research can be an alternative solution to managerial staff at higher education to equip the students with digitalization technology, positive teacher perception and increase the students' self-efficacy.
Originality/value
The study on work readiness as a teacher for higher-education students has yet to be explored. Being a teacher is an art that needs skills and competencies because teachers educate humans that have dynamic critical thinking, ideas and behaviors. This study investigates the determinants of work readiness as a teacher for higher education students in the digitalization technology era.

Abstract
Purpose
Online learning gained ground during the pandemic and has continued to be used in the post-Covid era. Items related to online learning should be included in service quality assessment. The purpose of this study is to examine the influence of service quality, which includes the online learning dimension, on student satisfaction in higher-education in a blended learning environment.
Design/methodology/approach
A total of 452 valid questionnaires were collected from business undergraduate students enrolled in public universities in Greece. A modified version of HEdPERF is used to evaluate service quality. Due to the extensive use of online learning, an additional dimension was added to the HEdPERF scale which focuses on online education, a field that has not yet been widely examined. Structural equation modeling is used to examine the relationships between service quality, and student satisfaction.
Findings
The research findings verify the six-structure scale of the HEdPERF instrument (non-academic aspects, academic aspects, reputation, access and programs issues and online learning), providing satisfactory results in terms of reliability and validity tests. Service quality dimensions such as academic aspects, access, program issues and online learning are the influential dimensions of student satisfaction in a blended learning context.
Originality/value
To the best of the authors’ knowledge, no previous study has expanded traditional service quality instruments to include the dimension of service quality of online learning.

Abstract
Purpose
A significant dilemma facing humankind in the present time is environmental degradation. To alleviate the pressure on natural resources, green banking (GB) has been acknowledged as an effective solution. However, creating consumer engagement is still challenging for banks. Hence, the purpose of this study is to investigate the influence of religiosity on GB adoption among Muslim consumers.
Design/methodology/approach
The deductive approach was used to explain how GB adoption is affected by the religiosity of the consumer. A total of 332 sample data were collected cross-sectionally from Islamic bank customers in the UAE. Partial least square structural equation modelling (PLS-SEM) via Smart PLS 4 was used to analyse the data. Five dimensions (i.e. ideological, ritualistic, intellectual, consequential and experimental) were used to measure religiosity which served as the independent variable. Customer intention to adopt GB represents the dependent variable.
Findings
The PLS-SEM results revealed that Islamic religiosity affects the adoption of GB among Muslim consumers. Indeed, their religious commitment and beliefs affect the products they intend to adopt and how they intend to do it.
Originality/value
To the best of the authors’ knowledge, this is a pioneering study in the investigation of Islamic religiosity and its influence on the intention to adopt GB. This is a pioneering study in the sense that it proposes a comprehensive religiosity construct using five intertwined dimensions in the literature of GB. This study offers an improved and broader insight assessment of Islamic religiosity, which would help emphasise its significance and utility for business-related decisions by developing an emotionally-driven link between GB practices and the Muslim-oriented consumer market towards increasing the latter’s engagement.

Purpose
Critical thinking (CT) in higher education institutions (HEIs) is rarely examined using bibliometric methods to provide a better reference path for future research. This study aims to provide a broad survey of the bibliometric literature on CT in HEIs.
Design/methodology/approach
Compiled from the Scopus database, there were 670 articles published from 2018 to 2022 analyzed in the study. VOSviewer software was also used to analyze co-authorship, co-occurrence and citation.
Findings
The results showed that the CT research literature was mainly published in the US However, the highest number of citations was from Australian authors. The most frequent keywords were CT, skills and higher education.
Research limitations/implications
Due to the high variability of assessment strategies for each study, the current study suggests that further research focuses on the global assessment model of CT in HEIs.
Originality/value
To the best of the research’s knowledge, the study on CT in higher education with bibliometric analysis is rarely explored.

Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of the present study is to reveal the antecedents of the new green product success (NGPS) of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) that manufacture in Türkiye with a middle-income economy. To this end, a research model for the serial mediating role of green human capital (GHC) and green adaptive ability (GAA) in the relationship between green mindfulness (GM) and NGPS was developed and tested. Determining the driving forces of NGPS is essential due to the contributions of SMEs manufacturing, especially in middle-income economies, such as Türkiye, to the national economy.
Design/methodology/approach
The present study used partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) to test the hypothesized relationships. The study hypotheses were tested in a sample of 396 manufacturing enterprises, qualified as SMEs in Türkiye with ISO 14001 certificates.
Findings
Empirical evidence indicates that GM, GHC and GAA act as significant antecedents of NGPS. Furthermore, empirical evidence demonstrates that GHC and GAA, in turn, mediate the relationship between GM and NGPS.
Research limitations/implications
Managers, especially in manufacturing SMEs, should be aware that they need to develop intangible resources to improve NGPS. Increased investment in GM results in higher levels of GHC and GAA, which collectively leads to improved NGPS.
Originality/value
The current literature has not previously explained the mechanism of the relationship between GM and NGPS. The originality of the present study, which discusses the relevant research gap, is to develop an integrated framework to investigate how GM impacts NGPS, specifically for SMEs, and to test it empirically.

Abstract
Purpose
This study sought to examine the effect of green transformational leadership (GTL) on financial performance (FPef) of star-rated hotels in Addis Ababa and also delving into the mediating effect of environmental management practices (EMPs) on GTL–FPef nexus.
Design/methodology/approach
The study used survey data, and analysis was done using SPSS 25, AMOS 24 and PROCESS Macro to determine the mediating effect of EMPs on the GTL–FPef nexus in hotel sector (n = 100).
Findings
The study found that the hotels under investigation have little access to green financing, lack environmental policy and strategy, perceived low stakeholders’ pressure to embrace eco-friendly practices and implemented EMPs to a lesser extent. Regression results demonstrated that GTL had a positive effect on EMPs and FPef. Furthermore, the result of a mediation test conducted using SPSS PROCESS macro revealed that the relationship between GTL and FPef is partially mediated by EMPs. Finally, one-way ANOVA result revealed that luxury hotels adopt EMPs better than budget hotels.
Practical implications
This study provides valuable practical insights for hotel owners, managers and policy makers regarding the importance of adopting GTL style and investing in EMPs to remain environmentally responsible and ultimately improve FPef levels.
Originality/value
Unlike previous studies that focused on individual-level intermediate variables to explain the indirect relationship between GTL and FPef, this study examined the mediating role of EMPs in the relationship between GTL and FPef at organizational level.

Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this study is to propose a research model based on the stimulus-organism-response (S-O-R) model to explore whether social media affordances and media richness as environmental stimuli to learners’ involvement elicited by massive open online courses (MOOCs) can affect their learning persistence in MOOCs and, in turn, their learning outcomes in MOOCs. This study further examines whether demographic variables can moderate the relationship between learners’ learning persistence in MOOCs and their learning outcomes.
Design/methodology/approach
Sample data for this study were collected from learners who had experience in taking MOOCs provided by the MOOCs platform launched by a well-known university in Taiwan, and 396 usable questionnaires were analyzed using structural equation modeling.
Findings
This study proved that learners’ perceived social media affordances and media richness in MOOCs positively influenced their cognitive involvement and affective involvement elicited by MOOCs, which concurrently expounded their learning persistence in MOOCs and, in turn, uplifted their learning outcomes in MOOCs. The results support all proposed hypotheses and the research model, respectively, explains 70.5% and 61.8% of the variance in learners’ learning persistence in MOOCs and learning outcomes. Besides, this study showed that learners’ usage experience moderated the relationship between learners’ learning persistence in MOOCs and their learning outcomes.
Originality/value
This study uses the S-O-R model as a theoretical groundwork to construct learners’ learning outcomes in MOOCs as a series of the psychological process, which is affected by social media affordances and media richness. Noteworthily, while the S-O-R model has been extensively used in previous literature, little research uses the S-O-R model to explain the media antecedents of learners’ learning persistence and learning outcomes in MOOCs. Hence, this study enriches the research for understanding how learners value their learning gains via using media features to support them in MOOCs.
