Abstract

Purpose

This study aims to examine how an organization’s innovation capability could influence research and development (R&D) performance. It also investigates if industry–academic knowledge transfer has a moderating relationship between organizational innovation capability and exploration and exploitative innovation in improving the R&D performance of the organizations.

Design/methodology/approach

Based on the literature and dynamic capability view, a conceptual model was developed and then validated using the partial least squares-structural equation modeling technique considering 387 responses from academicians and industry personnel.

Findings

The study found that industry–academic knowledge transfer has a significant moderating impact toward improving innovation capability, organizations’ R&D performance and exploration innovation. However, it has an insignificant moderating impact on improving innovation capability and exploitative innovation.

Practical implications

Organizational innovation capability is characterized by both exploratory and exploitative innovation. Both types of innovation support the R&D performance of an organization. Also, organizations that closely work with academic institutions could gain significant R&D knowledge from academic expertise. This study provides food for thought for the academic community as well as industry policymakers.

Originality/value

There are significant opportunities for academic institutions to gain practical knowledge from industry which can help them to accelerate their R&D activities. However, transferring knowledge between industry and academia has challenges related to intellectual property, patents and so on. Not much research has been conducted in this area. Thus, the proposed research model is unique and adds to the existing literature.

Abstract

Purpose

The study aims to assess how e-agri supply chain coordination (SCC), supply chain integration (SCI) and competitive capabilities (COC) impact both market performance (MO) and operational performance (OP). It particularly emphasizes the critical role of information flow for the benefit of farmers, intermediaries and end-consumers, shedding light on the broader implications of these factors within the agricultural supply chain.

Design/methodology/approach

Data are collected online from farmers, intermediaries engaged in buying/supplying agri-products and consumers using a semi-structured questionnaire of 25 items adapted from the extant literature measuring SCC, SCI, COC, OP and MP. The survey instrument is validated for its reliability, convergent and discriminant validity tests. Purposive and convenient sampling is used for data collection. Finally, 280 responses were analyzed using SEM to conclude the study.

Findings

Findings underscore information flow’s significance in the e-agri supply chain, addressing various stakeholders’ needs. Technical excellence, featuring robust transaction capabilities and cost-effective maintenance is pivotal. Enhanced supply chain coordination fosters integration and efficient information sharing, enhancing agricultural market performance and sectoral efficiency.

Research limitations/implications

The study explores technology adoption, understands information flow and coordination impact, enhances efficiencies, empowers farmers and promotes transparency, sustainability and consumer benefits.

Practical implications

The study promotes efficient information flow, digital adoption, collaborative planning, tech investment and enhanced responsiveness for agricultural sector managers.

Social implications

The study bridges the rural-urban divide, empowering farmers, providing fair pricing, sustainable practices, transparency, informed consumers, responsible consumption and income distribution.

Originality/value

The novelty of this study lies in its comprehensive information flow study, new theoretical model and e-agri-specific sub-constructs that define coordination and integration, aiding efficiency and competitiveness.

Abstract

Purpose

This study aims to analyze the mediating role of attitude in understanding the impact of online service convenience on user engagement and intention to continuously use e-resources. Five components of online service convenience have been adopted for the present study: These are access convenience, search convenience, evaluation convenience, transaction convenience and possession/ post-possession convenience.

Design/methodology/approach

A total of 500 PhD scholars and faculty members from two different states of India were approached to provide their responses through a structured questionnaire, which resulted in 224 complete responses. These responses were analyzed using structural equation modeling. The statistical analysis has been performed with the help of Smart-PLS 3.

Findings

The study findings have proven the proposed conceptual model by showing a significant relationship between all the variables. Furthermore, it has been identified that the attitude of the users also positively impacts intention to continuously use e-resources.

Originality/value

This study contributes to the literature on e-resources by providing implications for students, faculties, managers and society.

Abstract

Purpose

This study presents a systematic review of “employee happiness” research from 1991–2023. In this way, this study aims to critically appraise the existing literature, and synthesize themes, thereby, paving a clearer understanding of the construct, along with providing the future research agenda.

Design/methodology/approach

By adopting a systematic approach, this study followed scientific procedures and rationales for systematic literature reviews for article selection. A total of 57 articles were finally chosen after a careful examination from 110 selected journals.

Findings

The current study identified three major themes after evaluating the selected literature on Employee happiness: (1) work, family and personal blend, (2) organizational support, and (3) Ebullience sentiment. Amidst an ambiguous usage of several related constructs in employee happiness research, the review provided a clear definition of “employee happiness” along with proposing crucial research directions.

Originality/value

There is a lack of systematic reviews on employee happiness in the existing literature. Thus, by far, this effort is one of the earliest endeavors that researchers undertook toward understanding employee happiness.

Abstract

Purpose

This study aims to enhance the success of Sponsored Institutional R&D Projects (SIRPs) by investigating the influence of risk dimensions over four criteria Cost overrun, Time overrun, Schedule overrun, and Quality of projects. The study identifies risk dimensions and prioritizes and explores causal relationships to guide risk mitigation strategies during project execution.

Design/methodology/approach

This study was conducted with qualitative data obtained through a systematic questionnaire from 10 domain experts associated with SIRPs. Through an extensive literature review, the study identifies the ten risk dimensions, Fuzzy TOPSIS was employed for prioritizing the explored risk dimensions and Fuzzy DEMATEL explored the qualitative causal relationships among these dimensions. The sensitivity analysis was conducted to validate the robustness of findings by adjusting the weightage assigned to experts.

Findings

The findings reveal financial risk as the highest ranked and business risk as the least influential among identified dimensions. The study also highlights management risk as the most significant, followed by business risk and sensitivity analysis concludes that the findings are robust, lacking significant judgment bias.

Research limitations/implications

This study contributes to risk management strategies for SIRPs, to ensure timely completion within the allocated budget. The findings of the study can be implemented in other such SIRPs. The study also informs funding agencies' policies and project monitoring mechanisms and advancing project management practices

Originality/value

Its originality lies in being the first to systematically identify and prioritize risk dimensions, adding significant value to SIRP management and academic discourse on project management and risk analysis.

Abstract

Purpose

Agriculture is a vital sector for every country, especially for a country like India, where the majority of the population is dependent on agriculture as their earning source. Technological improvements in agriculture will increase output with proper forecasting of input resources. In this study, the author tries to investigate the attitude of end users (farmers) about the use of Industry 4.0 (I4.0) technologies.

Design/methodology/approach

The unified theory of acceptance and use of technology (UTAUT) model is used to assess the behavioral aspects. The significance of socioeconomic and technological factors is highlighted, providing the study with a thorough understanding of farmers' decision-making processes. A research questionnaire was developed for data collection, and descriptive and inferential statistics were used to analyse the results using AMOS and SPSS software.

Findings

A total of 371 survey responses were collected. The results demonstrate that the hypothesis regarding UTAUT model components is validated, while several mediating hypotheses are not supported, indicating that they are not significant in farmers' decision-making.

Originality/value

In this study, socioeconomic and technological factors are considered to be mediating and moderating elements between the constructs of the UTAUT model. Increasing the accuracy and reliability of our study by integrating mediating and moderating variables. This study assists industry specialists in understanding the elements that farmers consider while switching toward new technologies.

Abstract

Purpose

This study aims to propose that the corrosion resistance of the neat epoxy coating can be further enhanced by incorporating reinforcing agents.

Design/methodology/approach

Chitosan, silica and their hybrid compound were used to study the subject of corrosion resistance of epoxy coating systems. This work used 3.5 Wt.% NaCl solution as the electrolyte, and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) was used to investigate the electrochemical behaviour of the studied coating systems. Standard and accelerated states were used without and with scratch on the coating layer.

Findings

It was found that the impedance value of composite coating incorporated with the hybrid compound was significantly higher at 1010 Ω after 14 days of exposure in both testing states. The breakpoint frequency (fb) determination also proves with large capacitive region at low-to-high frequency of impedance plots corresponding to the high corrosion resistance.

Originality/value

The hybrid compound consisting of chitosan as organic biopolymer and silica as inorganic material, respectively, served as a promising reinforcing agent for composite coating as a promising corrosion inhibitor. Different states of EIS measurement were used which are standard (without scratch) and accelerated (with scratch) states associated with the fb values.

Abstract

Purpose

The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) is a premier medical institution in India that has significantly contributed to cancer research. This study aims to highlight the cancer research productivity of AIIMS by assessing the impact and reach of the institution’s research output.

Design/methodology/approach

The study was based on 2,078 published papers on cancer of AIIMS indexed in the Web of Science (WoS) database from 1989 to 2021. A combination of tools such as Microsoft Excel, Biblioshiny, BibExcel and VOSviewer was used to evaluate and visualize the selected data.

Findings

The analysis revealed the interdisciplinary nature of research outputs, which have collaborative contributions from various fields such as oncology, pathology, radiology and surgery. The most productive research area within cancer was found to be breast cancer. In terms of international collaboration, the analysis revealed that AIIMS has a strong presence in the global cancer research community, with collaborations with researchers from more than 50 countries.

Research limitations/implications

This study has some limitations. First, the study is limited to using only the WoS Core Collection database. Other databases, such as Scopus and PubMed, were excluded. Second, there is ambiguity in author names and nonuniformity in the institutions’ names, which can significantly affect the study’s outcomes.

Practical implications

Identifying research productivity in cancer at AIIMS aids resource allocation, collaboration and strategic planning, enhancing India’s overall cancer research impact and patient outcomes.

Originality/value

To the best of the authors’ knowledge, this study is to use scientometric indicators to evaluate AIIMS’s research productivity with particular reference to cancer for the first time. This detailed analysis provides a deeper understanding of AIIMS’s contribution to cancer research and its potential implications.

Abstract

Purpose

The purpose of this research was to conduct a comprehensive bibliometric analysis to explore supply chain resilience and operations management practices in the construction industry, with a particular focus on the transition from Industry 4.0 to Industry 5.0. The study addressed a significant gap in the literature regarding the impact of these advanced technologies on the construction sector’s ability to anticipate, respond to and recover from disruptions.

Design/methodology/approach

The methodology employed a bibliometric analysis using the Scopus database to identify key trends, influential publications and emerging research areas using keywords such as “supply chain”, “operations management”, “Industry 4.0”, “Industry 5.0” and “construction”. This approach allowed for a quantitative evaluation of existing literature, offering insights into the intellectual structure of the field.

Findings

The findings revealed that while Industry 4.0 technologies, such as IoT and AI, have enhanced the construction industry’s supply chain visibility and efficiency, the shift towards the Industry 5.0 paradigm introduces a human-centric approach that further strengthens resilience through collaboration and sustainability.

Practical implications

The study’s practical implications suggest to both industry and academia that embracing Industry 5.0 principles could significantly enhance the construction industry’s resilience, enabling it to withstand disruptions better and maintain project quality, timelines, and budgets in an increasingly complex global environment.

Originality/value

This research examines the shift from Industry 4.0 to Industry 5.0 within construction supply chains, offering a novel perspective on integrating these technologies.

Abstract

Purpose

This paper aims to conduct a bibliometric analysis of studies focusing on green supply chain management (GSCM) within the context of the digital economy.

Design/methodology/approach

We utilize the Web of Science database to search and filter relevant documents spanning the years 2003–2022. This extensive dataset enables us to analyze the growth and cutting-edge developments in research pertaining to GSCM in the digital economy.

Findings

The paper finds a significant increase in research interest and output, particularly noticeable from 2016 onwards, indicating the growing relevance of integrating GSCM with digital technologies. It is found that the prominent contribution of countries like China, England and the USA, underscoring a strong geographical diversity in research outputs. China leads in the number of publications, which reflects its significant role in shaping the discourse around GSCM in the digital economy. However, when it comes to citations, the USA leads, suggesting a higher impact or quality of research emanating from this region. Collaborative dynamics outlined in the study demonstrate extensive international cooperation, primarily among leading research countries, which is facilitated by shared digital platforms enhancing the research’s reach and impact. The study also highlights a range of emerging themes such as the adoption of blockchain technology, Internet of Things (IoT) and the circular economy within GSCM, indicating dynamic areas for future research.

Practical implications

The findings of this study hold significant practical implications for researchers, practitioners and policymakers. They shed light on the current state of research in GSCM within the digital economy, highlighting areas where further investigation is needed and pointing to the emerging trends in this field. Understanding the distribution of research and influential authors can guide future collaborative efforts and inform decision-making processes in the pursuit of sustainable supply chain practices in the digital era.

Originality/value

This paper contributes to the existing body of knowledge by providing a comprehensive bibliometric analysis of the evolving landscape of GSCM in the digital economy. It offers valuable insights into the growth patterns, key contributors and geographical distribution of research in this domain. This information is crucial for researchers and stakeholders seeking to stay at the forefront of sustainable supply chain practices in an increasingly digital world.
