Abstract
Purpose
This study aims to examine how affective and technological attitudes influence tourists’ intentions to use ride-sharing services. The authors also explore the moderating effects of perceived freedom and digital literacy on these relationships.
Design/methodology/approach
The sample consisted of local and international tourists using ride-sharing services in Bali, Indonesia. The authors used convenience sampling to distribute questionnaires to the respondents, collecting 258 responses. Out of these, 222 responses were fully completed and suitable for analysis.
Findings
The results revealed that hedonia, eudaimonia, technophilia and technophobia each differently influence tourists’ intentions to use ride-sharing services. Perceived freedom and digital literacy moderate the strength of these relationships.
Research limitations/implications
This research builds on previous studies by investigating how various aspects of happiness affect tourists' intentions to use ride-sharing services. It also emphasizes the role of perceived freedom and digital literacy in moderating the relationship between happiness, technology adoption attitudes and ride-sharing intentions.
Originality/value
This study contributes to the existing ride-sharing literature by integrating two dimensions of affective attitude (hedonia and eudaimonia) and technology adoption attitude (technophilia and technophobia) to examine their effects on tourists’ intentions to use ride-sharing services.

Abstract
Purpose
Islamic home financing products with Murabaha contracts are widely favored among the Muslim community in Indonesia, given that the country has a population of over 230 million Muslims. To facilitate the development of products and enhance public interest, it is important for Islamic banking institutions to comprehend the elements that may impact the intents of Muslim communities in Indonesia when selecting Islamic home financing products with Murabaha contracts. The purpose of this study is to ascertain the many aspects that may have an impact on the decision-making process of Muslim communities in Indonesia when selecting Islamic home financing product that use Murabaha contracts.
Design/methodology/approach
The partial least square-structural equation modeling data processing techniques will be used to process and evaluate these components. The data used in this study was acquired by administering questionnaires to a sample of 298 Muslim communities, which were randomly selected from a pool of 301 possible customers of Islamic house finance in Indonesia.
Findings
The results of this research show that attitude, subjective norms and perceived behavioral control have positive influence on intention to choose an Islamic home financing scheme with Murabaha agreement, while price fairness of Islamic home financing and Islamic altruism have direct and indirect influence on intention to choose Islamic home financing.
Research limitations/implications
Analyzing factors that affect intention to choose Islamic home financing product under Murabaha contract is essential. Future study is required to analyze other Islamic home financing products, such as istisna, ijarah muntahia bi tamlik and diminishing musharakah. This study only serves as a foundation for further investigations into conventional approaches to home financing in emerging nations. The areas can be expanded to be implemented in other countries.
Practical implications
It is anticipated that Islamic banks have the capacity to cultivate a favorable and constructive perception, hence fostering a positive disposition among the Muslim populace in Indonesia. Furthermore, it is essential for Islamic banks to guarantee that all stakeholders within the sharia-compliant institution, particularly the frontline staff, have enough expertise and understanding of the intricacies of Islamic home financing products including Murabaha contracts, which are intended for prospective customers. In the foreseeable future, it is anticipated that the Muslim population in Indonesia would exhibit a greater intention toward the use of Islamic home financing solutions that use Murabaha contracts, facilitated by the establishment of a conducive environment.
Originality/value
This research integrates the impacts of pricing fairness and Islamic charity as a modified model, alongside the theory of planned behavior model, to examine the influence of these factors on individuals’ intentions to use Islamic home financing in Indonesia.

Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to look into millennials’ acceptance of Qard al-hasan using the Islamic theory of consumer behaviour (iTCB) in Malaysia.
Design/methodology/approach
For this study, convenience sampling was used and 203 usable questionnaires were received from the respondents who are millennials and university students. The questionnaire link was distributed via social media platforms to the millennials.
Findings
The findings of this study reveal that there exists a strong and positive relationship between the role of iman and Maqasid consumer index in determining the millennial acceptance of Qard al-hasan. On the contrary, Islamic altruism does not turn out to be the factor of Qard al-hasan acceptance. Resultantly, these results suggest that millennials in Malaysia accept Qard al-hasan and based on those educational institutions may consider offering zero-interest benevolent loans to alleviate the financial burden of unprivileged students.
Research limitations/implications
Although this study provides positive results, a minimum of two research constraints may direct future efforts in this area. This study initially focuses on a specific ecosystem of Islamic financial products in Malaysia, with a particular emphasis on Qard al-hasan. As a result, subsequent research ought to strive to encompass a larger perspective on Qard al-hasan. Secondly, this research uses a theory that is still in the applicability phase, which has led to some productive discussions for further improvements.
Originality/value
To the best of the authors’ knowledge, this work is one of the few studies conducted on an empirical basis using the iTCB in the milieu of Qard al-hasan in Malaysia.

Abstract
Purpose
This study aims to explore the role of the sense of community in shaping Muslim tourists’ experiences in both Islamic and non-Islamic destinations, using the experience quality-intention framework.
Design/methodology/approach
Data was collected from 420 Muslim tourists visiting Islamic destinations and 371 visiting non-Islamic destinations, all of whom were Indonesian inbound or outbound tourists. Partial Least Squares analysis was applied to evaluate the sense of community’s impact on factors influencing Muslim tourists’ experiences.
Findings
The analysis reveals that integrating the sense of community into the framework enhances understanding of the factors affecting Muslim tourists’ overall experiences, satisfaction and behavioural intentions across both destination types. Notably, the sense of community significantly shapes tourists’ holistic experiences, satisfaction and intentions, though it affects attraction experiences differently between Islamic and non-Islamic destinations.
Practical implications
From a managerial perspective, findings suggest that destination managers can enhance Muslim tourists’ experiences and promote positive behavioural intentions by fostering a sense of community, regardless of tourists’ backgrounds. This underscores the importance of leveraging community connections to enrich experiences and encourage favourable intentions in diverse destinations.
Originality/value
This study contributes to the existing literature by expanding the Experience Quality-Intention framework to include the sense of community, providing fresh insights into predicting tourist experiences and intentions across diverse destinations.

Abstract
Purpose
This study aims to determine the intention of online cash waqf donations among Indonesian Muslim youth for micro enterprises (MEs) financing. Therefore, the contribution of Muslim youth in supporting MEs can be accelerated to solve some interrelated social and economic issues.
Design/methodology/approach
This study integrates the theory of planned behaviour (TPB) and the technology acceptance model (TAM) partially relevant to research characteristics. A questionnaire survey is used as a data collection approach to acquire responses from 180 Indonesian Muslim youth. The data obtained are analysed using smart partial least squares-structural equation modelling to answer the research hypothesis and obtain conclusions.
Findings
Religiosity, awareness and perceived behavioural control are significant factors determining the intention to donate online cash waqf for MEs financing. Religiosity plays an important role in building attitudes and perceived awareness of Muslim youth’s behaviour and intention to donate online cash waqf for MEs financing.
Research limitations/implications
The analysed factors could be used as guidelines for better planning and implementing digital-based cash waqf marketing strategies for Nazir (waqf institutions). Regulators (Government and National Waqf Board) must provide better regulations for digital waqf platforms and policies for cash waqf financing for MEs. Researchers could investigate the other theory and cash waqf financing model in low-risk MEs’ empowerment. This study will also broaden cash waqf literacy for MEs financing.
Originality/value
To the best of the authors’ knowledge, no previous study addressed the intention of Muslim youth in Indonesia towards online cash waqf to empower MEs. This study develops models by combining TPB and TAM with additional constructs to determine the intention to donate online cash waqf for MEs financing that have been experiencing difficulties accessing banking financing.

Purpose
This study examined Muslim civil officers’ cash waqf giving decisions in Malaysia.
Design/methodology/approach
Using the theory of planned behaviour (TPB), the effects of the said factors on the decisions were examined using logistic analysis. A total of 583 Muslim civil officers were involved in this work. The discrete dependent variable measures whether a civil officer is a donor or non-donor cash waqf.
Findings
Results obtained indicate significant influences of attitude, subjective norm, perceived behavioural control and some demographic items on cash waqf giving decisions in Malaysia.
Research limitations/implications
The findings attained were narrowed in terms of chosen geographical settings and the theory used.
Practical implications
This study provides a theoretical benchmark to enhance cash waqf giving decisions, which in turn can affect the waqf collection by the waqf institutions in Malaysia.
Originality/value
This study uniquely develops Muslim civil officers’ cash waqf giving decisions framework (CAGDEF) in measuring cash waqf giving decisions in Malaysia.

Abstract
Purpose
This paper aims to investigate the behaviour determinants towards cash waqf for productive purposes between two different classes of Muslims: the upper-middle class and the lower-middle class.
Design/methodology/approach
Under the Theory of Planned Behavior framework, this study modified previous literature to investigate the determinants of two Muslim classes’ behaviour towards cash waqf for productive purposes. A structural equation model was applied to test the hypothesis, and an in-depth interview was conducted to explain the findings further.
Findings
The behaviour of participating in cash waqf for productive purposes differs between the two Muslim segments. Upper-middle-class Muslims’ intentions will not necessarily consider subjective norms, even though they will consider religiosity as their deciding factor. Meanwhile, this study found different results on the influence of attitude, religiosity and subjective norms to intention in the lower-middle-income group. Other attributes such as perceived behaviour control, knowledge, trust and perceived benefits show positive and significant effects on the intention for both income classes of Muslims.
Research limitations/implications
The current findings may not accurately reflect ideal conditions due to the low level of waqf literacy and actual participation of Muslims in cash waqf for productive purposes. Researchers can conduct further studies based on other criteria, such as gender, age, education level or area of residence, using experimental or simulation methods to complement the research.
Practical implications
This study’s findings can support policymakers and related waqf stakeholders to set strategies for cash waqf literacy and participation by providing more detailed information about the differences in Muslims characteristics based on the income classes.
Originality/value
This study specifically modifies the behavioural framework to investigate differences in the behaviour of two classes of Muslims towards their participation in cash waqf for productive purposes in Indonesia.

Purpose
The purpose of this study is to develop a new framework to measure waqif preference of waqf-based qardhul hassan financing in Malaysia.
Design/methodology/approach
Using a maqāṣid approach, this study’s data were drawn from 286 valid usable questionnaires to examine the effects of consumer, family, ummah and humanity factors on the preference.
Findings
The study found that the said factors sourced from Attia’s maqāṣid al-Shariah were instrumental in determining waqif preference to donate in waqf-based qardhul hassan financing.
Research limitations/implications
Like others, this study’s findings are limited in terms of their generalisations and applications. The theory, context and variables used should be expanded in future works.
Practical implications
The results obtained are useful as a yardstick to enable the offered waqf-based qardhul hassan financing for improved mutual well-being among different classes of the wealth of societal groups in Malaysia. Furthermore, the results provide valuable insights into the direction for practitioners mainly managers involved in introducing waqf-based qardhul hassan financing as a new Islamic social financial instrument for poor and needy folks, at best.
Originality/value
This study is novel in terms of the proposed conceptual framework, where the waqif perspective comes into play.

Purpose
The purpose of this study is to apprise mobile loyalty to halal food purchasing, including food quality, mobile quality, perceived value and satisfaction as its causes, and analyze the halal trust and health risk moderating role on the connections between mobile loyalty and its determinants.
Design/methodology/approach
A total of 307 responses from millennial Muslims were collected from the Bandung region of Indonesia via an online survey. Partial least squares modeling was applied to review the proposed mobile loyalty model.
Findings
This research found that the mobile loyalty model integrating halal food quality, mobile service quality, perceived value and satisfaction has satisfactory goodness of fit. The research confirms the function of mobile service quality but not halal food quality as drivers of mobile loyalty. Next, this study suggests that halal trust and health risks do not moderate the association between mobile loyalty and its determinants.
Practical implications
This study recommends that managers devote resources to upgrading the quality of their mobile apps to build loyalty. Offering high-quality halal food is also an important driver of millennial Muslim satisfaction.
Originality/value
To the best of the authors’ knowledge, this research is the first to investigate mobile loyalty in halal food.

Purpose
This paper aims to find several factors from religiosity aspects (perceived religiosity on property [PRP], perceived Islamic debt principle, perceived maqasid on homeownership, Shariah-compliant products [SCPs]) and financial aspects (mortgage repayment policy [MRP], well-versed bankers, perceived financial benefit [PFB], perceived risk), which influence the willingness of low-income people to choose Sharia-subsidized Kredit pemilikan rumah/mortgage (KPR) in Indonesia.
Design/methodology/approach
Research data was obtained from 235 respondents and analyzed using the partial least square-structural equation modeling method.
Findings
The research results show that PRP, SCPs, MRP and PFBs significantly influence the willingness to choose Sharia-subsidized mortgage. The practical implication that can be applied to increase the willingness of low-income people to choose Sharia-subsidized mortgage is by promoting it more massively with elements of community religiosity.
Originality/value
Sharia banking as the bank implementing Sharia-subsidized mortgage can consider the financial benefits of the debtor by implementing payment policies that make it easier for customers who have financial difficulties, such as rescheduling and payment holiday policies so that public interest in choosing Sharia-subsidized mortgage increases, so the problem of housing needs in low-income people can find its solution.
