Friday 28 May 1999 dawned grey, but spirits were high as competitors made their way to the magnificent Dromoland Castle Golf & Country Club for SMART Group Ireland's fourth annual social event, sponsored by Nepcon. After morning coffee with guns blazing and clubs swinging the competitions began.
The golfers teed off in four balls around a wonderful 18 hole course of perfects greens and rolling hills, with the odd family of ducks joining in.
In the distance the shooters could be heard blasting their way through the first round of practice shots. No ducks joined in here! After a quick break for lunch the massacre of clays began. It was a close contest with some surprising naturals showing their true colours. Next time you talk to the new incoming chairman just remember what he can do with a gun!
On returning to the club house and partaking in a few liquid refreshments the prizes were announced. Silver salvers were presented to:

1st place Ger MacNamara (NTS Computers)
2nd place Stephen Pierson (AMT Magazine)
3rd place Peter Kiely (Analog Devices)
This year we had an additional "environmental" presentation Moss Dore (3Com) received the ISPCCP (Irish Society for Protection of Cruelty to Clay Pigeons). As you can guess Moss wasn't a natural born shooter.
As the golfers began to make their way towards the clubhouse, the scores were totalled and the tension mounted as the final results were tallied up. The prizes were nearly all swept away by the NMRC, with our outgoing chairman, Declan, managing to hold up our name:

As the day drew to a close Alan Jones thanked Nepcon Electronics for supporting the event and everyone present for making the day such a successful and enjoyable one.
SMART Group Ireland thanked the members present for their support and hopes to see them all again next year.
