New Venue for NPE2012 in Orlando gives Latin Americans easy access to the hemisphere’s largest plastics exposition

Article Type: Conferences From: Pigment & Resin Technology, Volume 39, Issue 4

Mexico City – The NPE2012 international plastics exposition promises to be a “must” on the calendars of industry professionals in Latin America and the Caribbean, including those who have never before attended an NPE because of the travel involved, according to SPI: The Plastics Industry Trade Association, which is sponsoring the US Pavilion at Plastimagen 2010.

NPE2012 will take place April 1-5, 2012. SPI, which produces the triennial NPE expositions, has changed the venue for NPE from its longtime home in Chicago to the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, Florida – a location much more easily accessible to travelers from anywhere south of the USA. Because Orlando is one of the world’s most popular destinations for tourism and vacations, the change in venue also provides a new opportunity to take advantage of business travel by adding extra time for personal or family enjoyment.

NPE2012: More Technology, Operating Machinery, Educational Programs.

“The increased access to NPE for Latin Americans comes at a time when SPI is transforming the event, making it broader in scope and richer in technology than ever before in the six decades of NPE history,” said Gene Sanders, SPI senior vice president of trade shows and conferences. “Our goal is to maximize the return on investment for all attendees and to create an NPE that Latin American plastics professionals will regard as a strategically essential investment for their companies and their career advancement.”

While NPE has always been the largest plastics trade show in the Western hemisphere, SPI has expanded NPE to include multiple additional events sponsored by co-locating partners, as well as technical conferences, educational seminars, pavilions focusing on emerging and specialty technologies, a design competition, and other innovations. “SPI intends to make NPE2012 the broadest-based, most multi-faceted plastics exposition in the world,” said Sanders.

The economies available in Orlando will play an important role in adding value to NPE2012, according to John Effmann, chairman of NPE2012. “All NPE2012 participants will benefit from hotel and dining costs that are lower than those in Chicago,” said Effmann. “In addition, exhibitors will benefit from Orlando’s lower costs and more streamlined logistics for setting up and maintaining booths, enabling them to bring more equipment to the show and operate it on site.”

NPE is now a direct flight away from Latin American and Caribbean cities.

While visitors from Latin American countries in recent years have accounted for more than one-fourth of the international attendance at NPE, traveling to Chicago from cities in Latin America and the Caribbean has taken many hours and often required one or more connecting flights. In contrast, Orlando is not only closer but served by nonstop flights from 12 destinations in the region. In addition, there are direct flights from 65 Latin American and Caribbean cities to Miami, which is a one-hour flight or a four-hour drive from Orlando.

The city of Orlando is in central Florida at the core of a metropolitan area with more than two million people. Well-known resorts and theme parks such as Walt Disney World Resort®, Worlds of Discovery® including SeaWorld Orlando and Discovery Cove®, and Universal Orlando Resort® have made the area an international tourist destination.

The NPE2012 international plastics exposition will take place Sunday through Thursday, April 1-5, 2012, at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, Florida. The NPE2012 educational program will begin on Sunday. Monday will be the first day of the four-day trade show. NPE is produced by the SPI: The Plastics Industry Trade Association.
