Rhodia Performance Products for Multifunctional Coatings (PPMC) of France has developed Tolonate® X FD 90 B, a new, fast-drying aliphatic polyisocyanate, based on hexamethylene diisocyanate (HDI), which provides fast-drying coatings without sacrificing durability or flexibility. After a successful launch in Europe at the end of 2003, Tolonate® X FD 90 B is also performing well in the Asia-Pacific market.

Rhodia PPMC successfully met the challenge of increasing drying speed without altering the properties of polyurethane coatings. With chemical reactivity similar to standard HDI derivatives, Tolonate® X FD 90 B produces coatings with remarkable hardness, flexibility, chemical resistance and durability. Now coating manufacturers will be able to produce non-yellowing two-component polyurethane paints and varnishes that dry quickly, offering their customers increased productivity during the painting process.

Owing to this innovative technology, which was developed by Rhodia's experts, drying times of coatings formulated with Tolonate® X FD 90 B can be reduced by between 25 and 50 per cent, compared to coatings based on standard HDI-derivatives. Tolonate® X FD 90 B also provides flexible coatings with excellent impact resistance. In addition, Tolonate® X FD 90 B may be used alone as a hardener, making the addition of other polyisocyanates unnecessary.

Tolonate® X FD 90 B is designed for use in high-performance polyurethane paints and varnishes for the automobile, plastics, maintenance, aerospace, marine, wood and general industries.
