BASF has named Frithjof Netzer, Business Director, Acrylic Monomers, and Robert G. Sawchuck, Marketing Manager, Acrylic Monomers

Netzer assumes responsibility for BASF's acrylic-monomers activities in the NAFTA region, including marketing and sales. He joined BASF Coatings in 1999 as manager of Planning and Controlling, and in 2002 was named assistant to the chairman and CEO of BASF Corp., based in Mount Olive, NJ. Sawchuck, who will direct merchant market activities in the NAFTA region, joined BASF in 1994 as marketing manager for the Coatings and Colorants group in Toronto. He was most recently manager of Global Marketing for the BASF superabsorbent business in Germany. BASF said it is the world's largest manufacturer of acrylic acid and acrylic esters, with end uses that include architectural coatings, adhesives raw materials and construction chemicals.

Degussa has named Michael J. Konci, Business Line Director of the company's Initiators business in the NAFTA region, with responsibility for all business activities of the organic peroxides and persulfates product lines. Konci was formerly vice president of sales and marketing for Degussa Initiators, and previously was director of sales for Velsicol Chemicals Corp. Degussa's Initiators business is part of the company's Catalysts and Initiators business unit.

Peter Ellwood, formerly group CEO of Lloyds TSB Group plc., has joined the ICI plc. board as a non-executive director and deputy chairman. Elwood will succeed Alex Trotman as chairman when Trotman retires, the company said. Trotman will turn 70 next month, although ICI provided no specifics on a retirement date. Ellwood is the chairman of the UK Royal Parks Advisory Board and chairman of The Work Foundation of Great Britain. He has held high-ranking executive positions with several major British companies, including TSB Group and Barclays Bank. Trotman called Ellwood "a man of outstanding intelligence, energy and determination" who has "extensive strategic business experience and has been a leader in driving structural change and efficiency improvement. He will bring high value complementary skills to the ICI board".

Robert J. Morlino, a past member of the National Paint and Coatings Association's board of directors and executive committee, has been named president of Degussa's global Bleaching and Water Chemicals business unit. Morlino joined the company in 1984 and has held a variety of management positions, most recently as a vice president of the Bleaching and Water Chemicals business unit.
