Chiltern Adhesive Products is introducing a wide range of double sided adhesive tapes that can reportedly replace and often outperform rivets, bolts, welds and other mechanical fixings in many industrial fixing situations. According to Chiltern they can permanently fix an enormous range of surfaces and materials and can produce a bond that's harder to break than riveted steel.
The tapes are said to provide a permanent invisible result in both static and dynamic situations and can improve appearance by eliminating unsightly mechanical rivets or bolt heads. Yet they are stated to be easy to apply, and require at most minimal training and no capital outlay! They are also said to eliminate the need for drilling and cleanup operations and they produce no fumes, problems or mess.
The company asserts that its new 3M VHB tapes both reduce distortion and remain flexible enough to compensate for differential thermal expansion when different materials need to be permanently fixed together.
Versions of the tapes can reportedly withstand anything from wave or IR re-flow soldering and plasticiser migration through to continual vibration. They can be used to seal products and keep out harsh environmental conditions.
VHB joining systems are suited for use in many interior and exterior industrial applications. Chiltern maintains that in many situations, they can replace rivets, spot welds, liquid adhesives, and other permanent fasteners. Each product in the VHB family has specific strengths. These can include high tensile, shear and peel adhesion and resistance to solvents, moisture and plasticiser migration.
Chiltern can supply the tapes in a variety of widths or even die-cut on a continual roll to any shape, size or pattern.
