Fischer Instrumentation (GB) have announced a completely new Coulometric Instrument to measure coating thickness. The Couloscope CMS replaces the Couloscope S which is still operated by many thousands of users throughout the world.

The technique is said to be suitable for measuring virtually any metallic coating on metallic or non metallic substrates. It is considered to be simple and quick to use, inexpensive and accurate between the ranges of 0.05-100 microns.

The instrument has around 100 predefined applications, from single coatings such as zinc on steel up to triple coatings like chromium on nickel on copper on plastic. Other specialist applications can easily be added, such as for the measurement of coatings on wires.

The measuring area diameter can be varied from 3.2mm down to 0.6mm. Results are displayed on a large LCD screen which also displays statistical data and histograms. Data can be printed or up-loaded to a computer.
