VeriVide, lighting manufacturer for the visual assessment of colour, has added a fifth light source to their Colour Assessment Cabinet (CAC) 60 (Plate 6). The new model, known as the 60-5, provides an additional light source from a wide range of international standard and point-of-sale illuminants to meet the increasingly diverse range of lighting conditions asked for by retailers.

"Many of the leading companies specify very specific illuminant conditions for their suppliers to achieve optimum colour matching for their products. If suppliers deal with a number of companies, then they need a solution that provides the widest possible lighting and viewing conditions. The CAC 60-5 has been developed with this market in mind", comments Gilbert Dakin of Leslie Hubble Ltd, which manufactures the VeriVide range of lighting cabinets.
The CAC 60-5, which is stated to meet BS 950:Part 1 directives, provides universal colour viewing for a wide range of market sectors - automotive, ceramics, cosmetics, dyeing, inks, knitwear, leather, and textiles. The CAC range incorporates membrane switching with electronic ballast control of the illuminants. These features are said to ensure optimum consistency of viewing conditions and permit the combined use of 26mm and 38mm lamps.
The CAC 60-5 choice of lighting sources includes: (D65) VeriVide "Artificial Daylight" fluorescent lamps conforming to international Standard Illuminant D65 within the tolerances prescribed by BS 950: Part 1; (F) tungsten filament as a test for metamerism; (UV) Ultra Violet Backlight to reveal the presence of fluorescent dyes and bleaches; and a selection from: (D75) American preferred daylight, (D50) graphics arts standard, (TL84), (TL83), (CWF) US point-of-sale lighting standards, as well as (WW) Warm White and (W) White.
