Plascoat informs us that its thermoplastic coating PPA571 continues to record a string of international sporting successes - having been selected as the seating corrosion protection at three more very different European venues.
Seating for the second phase of the refurbishment of Croke Park, Dublin, the home of the Republic of Ireland's national games of hurling and Gaelic football, will be coated in PPA571. British seating manufacturer Metaliform opted for the Plascoat finish for 21,000 seats being installed on three levels and in boxes at the canal end of the ground.
As well as grey, special blues are being produced by Plascoat for the Croke Park order, while black is being applied by Hoyland, Barnsley-based Metaliform to 25,000 seats at the new home of top British Rugby League team Wigan Warriors.
The coating is also being put to an extreme weather and salt attack test at a stadium at Molde on a tip of Norway near the confluence of the North and Norwegian Seas. Long-term adhesion across a wide temperature range and its resistance to salt and vandal attack are, according to Plascoat, three of the main reasons stadium seating specifiers and manufacturers are moving to PPA571 from nylon and polyethylene.
According to the manufacturers, even if breached, the attractive Plascoat finish maintains surrounding adhesion and allows simple repair. Other performance plus points claimed include good edge coverage, high levels of resistance to UV rays, impact, abrasion, stress, cracking and pollutants.
PPA571 has previously been used on seating for the Scotland national soccer ground at Hampden Park, Glasgow, and is one of the finishing touches to be added to the new Millennium Stadium in Cardiff, the setting for the Final of this year's Rugby World Cup.
