The long and successful relationship between Durr and Peugeot's Ryton car plant near Coventry is set to continue with an extensive programme of modifications and upgrades, worth almost £1 million, over the next few months.
This follows work which Warwick-based Durr and its subsidiary Inlac UK have carried out at the plant over last two years - including the installation of small vehicle order systems for special basecoat colours and upgrades which have helped ensure the success of Peugeot's new 206 model.
The new contract involves modifications to the electrostatic zone in primer zone number 1. The work this year will allow Peugeot to introduce three additional colours and will include new flushable gear pumps, modular colour changers, atomiser speed regulation and two additional atomisers to create an 11-bell painting zone.
Extensive control system modifications will also be carried out, with Durr replacing the existing PLC system and removing redundant equipment and making good.
One new paint mix and circulation system will be installed, incorporating paint temperature control systems to ensure materials reach required standards and are in optimum condition. Two existing primer systems will also be upgraded.
Preparation work on the paint mix system will be carried out in normal working time, and application equipment installed during the plant's shutdown period. All work will be completed by the end of summer 1999.
