Article Type: Conference report From: Nutrition & Food Science, Volume 42, Issue 4

This is a bi-annual event and well worth attending for anyone in the food industry as it showcases not juts a vast range of foods, but also ingredients and food processing equipment.

There are four shows; Food and Drink Expo featuring Farm Shop and Deli, Foodex, The National Convenience Show and Forecourt and Fuel Equipment Show, All co-located on the same three days under one roof.

The event provided an opportunity to talk with major brand owners and industry experts about the latest ideas and strategies for improving products, productivity, sustainability and profitability.

There was a lot going on over the four shows, but some of the highlights were:

  • Jim Paice, Minister of State at the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs toured the shows and led a keynote address.

  • Paul Hollywood led a Bakery Master class on “The Art of Dough”.

  • “Come Dine Regionally” challenged the way food is sourced.

  • Brain food factory theatre gave an innovative slant on food.

  • Alex James, rock star turned Britain’s most famous cheesemaker, told his story at the Brainfood Factory.

  • The National Meat Product Competition brought by NFMFT, kicked off the first day in Foodex.

  • The Q-Guild of Butchers Ready Steady Cut Competition was held.
