Having worked with numerous women as regards nutrition it is good to see such an authoritative book. Emma Derbyshire is an authority on the subject and has published extensively on it including in Nutrition & Food Science. The book starts with a very comprehensive glossary. This is followed by 12 chapters on various aspects of nutrition from nutrition and fertility and pre-conceptual nutrition, going through pregnancy (including weight gain) and ending with nutrition after birth with a comprehensive section on breastfeeding.
The pre-pregnancy section also deals with male fertility and nutrition. Each chapter starts with a summary, plus learning outcomes. There are very good charts and quotes from various expert bodies. One particular nice touch is the research highlights, which appear throughout. The book ends with an excellent appendix plus case studies. I found it really easy touse with numerous pieces of information, which will help me to improve my practice in the area.
For anyone involved in womens’ health this is a really excellent book and a must for their library.
