Congratulations to the South Eastern Branch Committee on their 200th meeting, which took place on 13 March. To mark the occasion, the present Committee invited previous Committee Members to the meeting, which was held in a hostelry near the Institute of Food Science and Technology (IFST) office.
The “Food Science” supplement in the Independent Newspaper was published in association with the IFST.
The independent – food science supplement
The main reason behind publishing this supplement was to address problems such as the dwindling numbers of young food technologists in the industry and the number of students at the undergraduate level. The supplement included a comment column by IFST's president, Dr Richard Burt.
The supplement looked at the university courses that exist in the UK to encourage people into the food industry and the types of careers available. It also carried case studies of professionals both in the public and private sectors who talked about their route into the food sector.
There was also a piece on the “Health of the Nation” on how food scientists are helping improve our nutrition and diet.
