New option for diabetics
New option for diabetics
The new drug rosiglitazone should be offered in combination with other anti-diabetic drugs as an alternative to insulin treatment, the National Institute for Clinical Excellence has recently recommended. It is thought that this new drug may give better protection than insulin against damage to blood vessels, a side effect of diabetes, leading to heart and kidney disease, stroke, sight loss and foot ulcers. Unlike insulin, it is not injected. However, rosiglitazone should not be used in patients with a history of heart failure, or liver or kidney disease.
