Editor’s introduction
Article Type: Editorial From: Management Research: The Journal of the Iberoamerican Academy of Management, Volume 10, Issue 1
As we start 2012, let me just emphasize three facts of importance to Management Research: The Journal of the Iberoamerican Academy of Management (MRJIAM ) during the past year.
In September 2011, MRJIAM moved to the ScholarOne Manuscripts system for article submission, journal management and peer review. This system is accessible to all via the online browser and allows the journal to have pre-publication versions of articles available online via the EarlyCite service. It is, thus, another step in the improvement of the submission and peer review process, which allows for a transparent and faster service to both submitting authors and reviewers.
Second, I refer to the International Conference of the Iberoamerican Academy of Management, organized by ESAN in Lima, Peru, in December. The quality of the papers selected for presentation is a sign that research in Iberoamerica is “alive and in good-health”, which is also promising for the future of this journal. The significant number of papers, posters and symposia, in six different research tracks, reflects a vibrant community of scholars from diverse nationalities, including the participants in the Doctoral Consortium, future contributors of MRJIAM.
Third, I am very happy to acknowledge that the number of submissions is increasing in a consistent manner. For an Editor, this is a most relevant fact, since it guarantees the sustainability of the journal and the continuous enhancement of its quality and impact in the scientific community. On a personal touch, I assure you that it also largely contributes to my peace of mind!
Volume 10 of MRJIAM starts with three research papers in Organizational Behavior. The first paper, by Paola Spagnoli, António Caetano, Giancarlo Tanucci and Vera Lourenço de Sousa was conducted with Portuguese police officers and investigates the mediating role played by information-seeking behaviours during the organizational socialization process. The study provides evidence of different processes associated to the different information-seeking behaviours and analyzes the specific relationships between personality and social exchange variables and organizational socialization outcomes.
In the second article, Jaime A. Ruiz-Gutierrez, Edward F. Murphy Jr, Regina A. Greenwood, Silvia Ines Monserrat, Miguel R. Olivas-Luján, Sergio Madero, Neusa Maria Bastos F. Santos and Arnel Onesimo O. Uy explore the role played by values as antecedents of work family conflict. Based on a large sample from Argentina, Brazil, Colombia and Mexico, their study suggests values are antecedents of the work family conflict, but these values differ depending on marital status and existence and number of children.
Pernille Smith, from Denmark, is the author of the third paper, a literature review on inter-organizational R&D collaboration. She argues that the main research focus on this topic covers organizational and coordination aspects as well as innovation performance enablers and knowledge exchange. Smith defends that longitudinal qualitative research at a micro level is needed to expand knowledge in this area, so far largely based on snapshot studies at the management or firm level of analysis.
Finally, our Special Section, on Young Iberoamerican Scholars, features “Leveraging the competitive advantage of Iberoamerican scholars”, by Sérgio Lazzarini, where he presents an analytical framework of “academic positioning” with some practical suggestions for young Iberoamerican scholars. I am certain that all readers will appreciate this interesting personal account, from a young scholar in Brazil.
I always close this Introduction by appealing to all of you to spread the word about MRJIAM and to submit. This is not an exception!
