This editorial is brief because I am opening this issue of the Journal of Fashion Marketing and Management with an invited paper from Dr Louise Curran of the Toulouse Business School, France, and Soledad Zignago, Principal Economist at BBVA Research in Madrid, Spain. Louise is a valued member of the journal’s Editorial Advisory Board (EAB) and publishes extensively in the area of trade economics. The reason for inviting this paper being that it comments directly on the impact of the recent global financial crisis on trade in apparel and textiles – a theme fundamental to this journal’s ethos, the founding editor and the field of fashion management as a whole. By its very nature the work has limited shelf-life and needs to be made available to all, expediently. I hope this serves the intended purpose and provides food for thought to our readership.

The papers that follow take us on a journey through aspects of product development, cluster theory, tween preferences, shopping behaviour and niche markets in countries as diverse as the UK, Canada, Japan and Australia, a truly global arena for trade in apparel and textiles. I would also like to draw your attention to the call for papers for an upcoming special edition focusing on ethical fashion supply chain management co-edited by Tsan-Ming Choi, Chris K.Y. Lo, Christina W.Y. Wong and Rachel W.Y. Yee of the Business Division, Institute of Textiles and Clothing, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. Do please submit your work in the area of ethical supply chain management to this team of guest editors and help make it a very special issue, thank you in advance for your support.
